Alzheimer's disease (AD) poses an enormous challenge to modern healthcare. Since 2017, researchers have been using deep learning (DL) models for the early detection of AD using neuroimaging biomarkers. In this paper, we implement the EfficietNet-b0 convolutional neural network (CNN) with a novel approach-"fusion of end-to-end and transfer learning"-to classify different stages of AD.

Approximately one out of ten COVID-19 cases in Ecuador was a physician. It has been reported that this situation has led to a serious detriment of physicians' health and well-being. This study aimed to (i) identify predictors of emotional exhaustion, somatization, and work alienation in Ecuadorian physicians working with COVID-19 patients and (ii) explore the pandemic impact on doctor-patient relationships and on empathy.

Empathy and lifelong learning are two professional competencies that depend on the four principles of professionalism: humanism, altruism, excellence, and accountability. In occupational health, there is evidence that empathy prevents work distress. However, in the case of lifelong learning, the evidence is still scarce.

Inter-professional collaboration, empathy and lifelong learning, components of medical professionalism, have been associated with occupational well-being in physicians. However, it is not clear whether this role persists in adverse working conditions. This study was performed to assess whether this is the case.

The objective of this study was to verify the occurrence and effect size of relative age effect in professional futsal players, by observing how its presence and impact change according to the season, team level and player position. The sample was composed of 1873 professional futsal players who played in the First Division of the Spanish National Futsal League between seasons 2006-2007 and 2014-2015. The players' birthdates were divided into quarters (Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4).

The aim of this study was to assess the effect of core strength training performed on a stable surface (CTS) compared with core strength training performed on an unstable surface (CTU) on physical fitness (jump performance, sprint, and repeated sprint ability (RSA)) and quality of movement (Fundamental Movement Screen) in professional female futsal players. Fourteen professional female futsal players (mean age: 23.7 ± 5.

Objective: To analyse the acute muscular fatigue (AMF) in triceps brachii and rectus abdominis during compression-only and standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) performed by certified basic life support providers.

Methods: Twenty-six subjects were initially recruited and randomly allocated to two study groups according to the muscles analysed; eighteen finally met the inclusion criteria (nine in each group). Both groups carried out two CPR tests (compression-only and standard CPR) of 10 min divided into five 2-min intermittent periods.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how using fins and a rescue tube affects lifeguard efficiency in water rescues, considering factors like time, distance, and CPR quality.
  • The research involved 20 lifeguards performing rescues with and without equipment, revealing that using fins and a rescue tube significantly decreased rescue time and distance.
  • While the quality of CPR decreased after rescues regardless of equipment used, the fins and rescue tube did not improve CPR quality post-rescue but led to lower blood lactate levels in female lifeguards compared to males.

Purpose: Drowning is a high-priority public health problem around the world. The European Resuscitation Council Guidelines for Resuscitation 2015 put special emphasis on special environments like open waters. Stopping the drowning process as soon as possible and starting an early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) improve survival.

Objective: Our objective was to assess the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) quality by helicopter rescue swimmers (HRSs) while flying.

Methods: Twenty HRSs from the Spanish Maritime Safety took part in this study. The research protocol included 2 phases: a baseline test (5 minutes of CPR on land) and a challenge test (5 minutes of CPR on a Sikorsky S-61N helicopter in-flight).

Aim: Early defibrillation should achieve the highest survival rates when applied within the first minutes after the collapse. Public access defibrillation programs have increased the population awareness of the importance of defibrillation. Schoolchildren should be trained in basic life support (BLS) skills and some countries have included BLS in their school syllabus.

Article Synopsis
  • Early rescue in drowning situations is crucial as it can prevent medical complications, and the study aimed to compare different rescue equipment (fins, rescue tube, and rescue board) for their effectiveness and impact on lifeguards' performance.
  • A trial with 35 lifeguards showed that using a rescue board significantly reduced water rescue time compared to no equipment, while CPR quality remained consistent across all techniques, though ventilation effectiveness was low.
  • The findings suggest that using rescue equipment like the rescue board can reduce drowning risks, highlighting the need for improved CPR training for lifeguards to enhance ventilation skills in emergency situations.
