is currently classified as one of six pathogens that contribute to increased patient mortality. Thus, exploratory studies navigating alternative treatment strategies are of supreme interest. Herein, we completed minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) testing, and time-kill analyses (TKA) on 50 carbapenem-resistant isolates including 28 colistin-resistant isolates.

Almost two decades have passed since the last methamphetamine (METH) abuse epidemic. In recent years, METH abuse in the United States has been rapidly increasing and is currently one of the leading causes of death in our country. Available statistical data indicates reemergence of METH popularity and suggest an impending third epidemic of METH abuse.

The novel β-coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), has infected more than 177 million people and resulted in 3.84 million death worldwide. Recent epidemiological studies suggested that some environmental factors, such as air pollution, might be the important contributors to the mortality of COVID-19.

Methamphetamine (METH) is a highly addictive and powerful central nervous system psychostimulant with no FDA-approved pharmacotherapy. Parkin is a neuroprotective protein and its loss of function contributes to Parkinson's disease. This study used 3-month-old homozygous parkin knockout (PKO) rats to determine whether loss of parkin protein potentiates neurotoxicity of chronic METH to the nigrostriatal dopamine pathway.

To evaluate a tool designed to assess Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students' personal and professional development prior to beginning advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPEs). A five-item instrument, entitled the Faculty Advisor's Assessment of the Advisee (FAAA) tool, was developed to assess and monitor pharmacy students' progress over the three-year didactic curriculum. Question anchors were created to describe characteristics exhibited by the student that matched categories of not engaged, beginning, emerging, or engaged.

To evaluate the metacognitive abilities of pharmacy students and determine whether introducing the concept along with team-based learning (TBL) enhances metacognition. Pharmacy students completed a Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) and a low-stakes pretest during the first class that evaluated students' knowledge about the therapeutic concepts that would be taught through TBL. The same questions were administered on the comprehensive final examination for the course.

Background: Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) bloodstream infection (BSI) management remains challenging for clinicians. Numerous in vitro studies report synergy when vancomycin (VAN) and daptomycin (DAP) are combined with beta-lactams (BLs), which has led to clinical implementation of these combinations. While shorter durations of bacteremia have often been reported, there has been no significant impact on mortality.

Caspase recruitment domain containing protein 9 (CARD9) plays key regulatory role(s) in innate and adaptive immune responses. Recent evidence implicates CARD9 in the onset of metabolic diseases including insulin resistance. However, potential contributory roles of CARD9 in glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) remain unknown.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly aggressive disease with the lowest survival rate among all solid tumors. The lethality of PDAC arises from late detection and propensity of the tumor to metastasize and develop resistance against chemo and radiation therapy. A highly complex tumor microenvironment composed of dense stroma, immune cells, fibroblast, and disorganized blood vessels, is the main obstacle to current PDAC therapy.

Patients with schizophrenia are at high risk of pre-mature mortality due to cardiovascular disease (CVD). Our group has completed studies in pharmacogenomics and metabolomics that have independently identified perturbations in one-carbon metabolism as associated with risk factors for CVD in this patient population. Therefore, this study aimed to use genetic and metabolomic data to determine the relationship between folate pharmacogenomics, one-carbon metabolites, and insulin resistance as measured using the homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) as a marker of CVD.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is one of the major complications of diabetes due to an impairment in angiogenesis. Since there is currently no drug with satisfactory efficacy to enhance blood vessel formation, discovering therapies to improve angiogenesis is critical. An imidazolinone metabolite of the metformin-methylglyoxal scavenging reaction, (E)-1,1-dimethyl-2-(5-methyl-4-oxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-imidazol-2-yl) guanidine (IMZ), was recently characterized and identified in the urine of type-2 diabetic patients.
