Total Neoadjuvant Therapy Versus Neoadjuvant Chemoradiation for Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer: A Multi-Institutional Real-World Study.

Total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) has emerged as a promising approach for managing locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC), aiming to enhance resectability, increase pathological complete response (pCR), improve treatment compliance, survival, and sphincter preservation. This study compares the clinical outcomes of TNT, with either induction or consolidation chemotherapy, to those of the standard chemoradiotherapy (CRT). In this retrospective multi-institutional study, patients with stage II-III LARC who underwent CRT or TNT from seven oncology centers between 2021 and 2024 were retrospectively analyzed.

Factors affecting poor sleep quality in last trimester pregnant women: a cross-sectional research from Turkey.

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the factors affecting poor sleep quality in the last trimester pregnant women.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary care maternity hospital in Ankara, Turkey. The research was conducted between May and September 2019 with 570 pregnant women in the last trimester.

Maxillary sinus barotrauma with infraorbital nerve paraesthesia after breath-hold diving.

Barosinusitis, or sinus barotrauma, is a sinonasal injury and/or inflammation that results when the aerated spaces of the nose and sinuses are exposed to an uncompensated change in ambient pressure. We describe a 19-year-old male diver who presented to our clinic on the fourth day following a breath-hold diving session. During descent on a constant weight monofin dive at the South Cyprus World Championship he began to experience symptoms due to the inability to equalise the pressure, particularly in the Eustachian tubes and middle ear cavities.

The role of hyperbaric oxygen treatment in the management of spondylodiscitis.

Introduction: This study analysed treatment outcomes in a patient cohort diagnosed with spondylodiscitis, who received adjunct hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) in addition to antibiotic therapy at our clinic. Important considerations included the timing of HBOT initiation on treatment success, and recurrence rates.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the records of all patients diagnosed with spondylodiscitis who received HBOT at the Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine Clinic in Gulhane Training and Research Hospital, between 1 November 2016 and 25 October 2022.

Clinical Characteristics of Local Recurrent Basal Cell Carcinoma After Surgical Excision: A Retrospective Study of the Patients From a Tertiary Clinical Center.

Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most frequent form of skin cancer. The etiology of recurrent BCC is multifactorial, and the recurrence rate is variable.

Effects of low-level laser therapy on symptomatic calcific rotator cuff tendinopathy : A prospective randomized controlled study.

Objective: Rotator cuff calcific tendinitis (RCCT) is a benign but incapacitating condition and in some patients it is the cause of chronic debilitating pain and functional disability. We aimed to reveal the short-term effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on clinical and sonographic parameters in patients with symptomatic RCCT.

Method: This prospective randomized controlled study analyzed 76 painful shoulders of 68 patients aged 18-75 years, with over 3 months of shoulder pain and where RCCT was confirmed sonographically.

Identification of sexual myths of university students in health-related departments and affecting factors.

Aim: The research aimed to determine the attitudes of students studying in health-related departments toward sexual myths and the factors affecting them.

Methods: The study is descriptive research involving 287 students enrolled in health-related departments. The data were collected using a "Descriptive Information Form" and the "Sexual Myths Scale (SMS)" and analyzed using the SPSS 22.

New Immunological Indexes for the Effect of Systemic Inflammation on Oocyte and Embryo Development in Women With Unexplained Infertility: Systemic Immune Response Index and Pan-Immune-Inflammation Value.

Problem: Predicting the impact of systemic inflammation on oocyte and embryonic development in unexplained infertile women using the new immunological indexes.

Method Of Study: This retrospective cohort study was conducted using the records of the In Vitro Fertilization Department of Ankara Gülhane Training and Research Hospital. After reviewing the records of patients who had undergone in vitro fertilization (IVF) for unexplained infertility (UI) and excluding all known factors that could cause systemic immune inflammation, the systemic immune response index (SIRI), and pan-immune score were calculated from the pre-treatment hemogram parameters between the embryo arrest (EA) group and the embryo transfer group.

Sensitivity of frozen section analysis in patients with ovarian adult granulosa cell tumor, a multi-center study.

Introduction: We aimed to demonstrate the sensitivity of frozen section for patients with adult granulosa cell tumor (AGCT) and analyze the clinico-pathological factors that may be associated with sensitivity.

Material Methods: This is a multicenter study including data of 10 Gynecological Oncology Departments. Frozen-section results of patients who had ovarian AGCT at the final pathology report were retrospectively analyzed.

Treatment of Behçet Uveitis in Türkiye.

Objectives: Behçet uveitis (BU) is a potentially blinding disorder. The main determinant of visual prognosis is early and appropriate treatment that provides rapid suppression of inflammatory attacks, control of subclinical inflammation, and prevention of new attacks. Our study aimed to determine the Turkish uveitis specialists' approach regarding the treatment choices and management of special situations such as pregnancy, vaccination, and surgical planning in BU patients, and to increase information sharing and raise awareness of issues where knowledge is lacking.

Background And Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values in predicting pathologic subtypes and grade in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Materials And Methods: From January 2018 to March 2020, 48 surgically diagnosed NSCLC cases were included in this study. To obtain ADC values, ADC maps were constructed, and a region of interest was put on the tumor.

Rapid detection of antimicrobial susceptibility of the Bacteroides fragilis group by flow cytometry: A preliminary study.

The relationship between sedentary lifestyle and chronic diseases is well known. This study examined the prevalence and factors associated with reduced physical activity (PA) among internal medicine inpatients on admission. In this single-center, cross-sectional study, inpatients aged 50 years or older were prospectively enrolled at a tertiary care facility in Ankara, Türkiye.

Effect of subchorionic hematoma on first-trimester maternal serum free β-hCG and PAPP-A levels.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of the presence of subchorionic hematoma (SH) in early pregnancies with threatened miscarriage (TM) on levels of first-trimester maternal serum markers, pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A), and free β-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) levels.

Methods: The data of TM cases with SH in the first trimester between 2015 and 2021 were evaluated retrospectively. The data of age and gestational age-matched TM cases without SH were also assessed to constitute a control group.

Atypical presentation of ACCES syndrome resembling dominant Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia tarda.

Aplasia Cutis Congenita with Ectrodactyly Skeletal Syndrome (ACCES, OMIM #619959) is an extremely rare multiple congenital anomalies syndrome caused by haploinsufficiency of the UBA2 gene. This syndrome presents with growth retardation, dysmorphic facial features, neurodevelopmental delay, skeletal problems including ectrodactyly, developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and scoliosis, skin findings such as aplasia cutis, and some internal organ abnormalities. Our 13-year-old female patient and her 38-year-old father had a skeletal dysplasia phenotype with disproportionate short stature, bilateral DDH, mild epiphyseal involvement, scoliosis, and increased lumbar lordosis.
