Objective: The average time for umbilical cord separation in term neonates is 7 to 10 days. Prematurity, phototherapy, prolonged duration of antibiotic treatment, and parenteral nutrition are other factors which were demonstrated to delay cord separation. In the previous studies including greater premature infants, the time of separation of the umbilical cord was shown to vary 2 to 3 weeks.

Bevacizumab and neurodevelopmental outcomes of preterm infants with retinopathy of prematurity: should we still worry?

J Matern Fetal Neonatal Med

February 2022

Department of Neonatology, Etlik Zubeyde Hanim Women's Health Teaching and Research Hospital, University of Health Sciences Turkey, Ankara, Turkey.

Aim: Bevacizumab may affect preterm infants' ongoing organogenesis with its antiangiogenic effects. We aimed to compare neurodevelopmental outcomes (NDO) of preterm infants treated for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) with laser photocoagulation (LP), intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) or both treatments, and to find out the effects of IVB on NDO.

Methods: Medical records of preterm infants with ROP treatment and evaluation for NDO were retrospectively collected between 1 January 2017 and 31 June 2019.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the utility of first trimester maternal serum afamin levels together with vitamin E and various elements (zinc, copper, selenium, and magnesium) for the prediction of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). All pregnant women between 11th and 14th weeks of gestation admitted for combined test were asked to participate in the study. A total of 797 women gave permission to participate in the study between January and September 2019.

Background: Preterm ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (POHS) is an uncommon disorder characterized by prematurity, hypogastric and upper leg swelling, high serum estradiol and gonadotropin levels, and ovarian cysts. Immaturity of the gonadal axis is accepted as the cause. But still, other etiological factors are suspected.

Purpose: Demonstrate survival outcomes of stage 3B/3C ovarian-tubal-peritoneal epithelial cancer patients who had metastases on diaphragm.

Methods: 141 patients who had undergone diaphragm surgery as a part of primary cytoreductive surgery procedures performed for stage 3B and 3C ovarian-tubal-peritoneal epithelial cancers were reviewed retrospectively. Patients who were administered neoadjuvant chemotherapy and patients who were suboptimally cytoreduced were not included to the study.

Article Synopsis
  • * It found that 46% of the infants had moderate-to-large PDA, with 24% managed conservatively and 76% receiving medical treatment, revealing no significant differences in severe complications or surgical needs between the two groups.
  • * Notably, medical treatment raised the risk of mortality but lowered the chances of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) or death, with ibuprofen and paracetamol being the most common treatments; however, early treatment (before day

Objective: The objective of this study is to compare the first-trimester hemogram parameters [neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR)] of pregnant women complicated by intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and normal pregnant women.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the medical records of pregnant women (n=50) complicated with IUGR and pregnant women in the control group (n=50).

Results: The first-trimester NLR and PLR values of the pregnant women complicated by IUGR were 6.

In this study, we aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of Premature Preterm Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) cases diagnosed by classical speculum examination and by placental alpha microglobulin-1 protein (PAMG-1) assay. The medical records of all patients with singleton pregnancies that were diagnosed with PPROM were retrospectively reviewed. Singleton pregnancies with PPROM diagnosis that was confirmed either by direct visualisation of amniotic fluid leaking through the cervix or by placental alpha microglobulin-1 protein (PAMG-1) assay if no amniotic fluid leakage was documented were included in the study.

Neuroendocrine carcinoma of the endometrium: A very rare gynecologic malignancy.

J Gynecol Obstet Hum Reprod

May 2021

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Faculty of Medicine, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the characteristics and outcomes of neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) in the endometrium by analyzing data from 10 patients who underwent surgery between 1999 and 2017 in Turkey.
  • Most patients (70%) were diagnosed at advanced stages, with small cell carcinoma being the most common type, and treatment typically involved surgery followed by platinum-based chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
  • The findings suggest that polypoid features in small cell NEC may indicate a better prognosis, with some patients remaining disease-free for 24 to 72 months post-treatment.
