Highly selective inhibitors of cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6is) have emerged as a standart of care for first- and second-line therapies in combination with endocrine therapy (ET) for HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients. It has been reported that combination therapy is more effective than ET alone and is safe in elderly patients as well as young patients. Nevertheless, elderly and very old patients with HR+/HER2-MBC treated with CDK4/6 inhibitor (CDK4/6i) combinations are relatively underrepresented in randomized controlled trials.

Objectives: Sialidosis type 1 is a rare autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disorder caused by pathogenic variants in the gene, which encodes the sialic acid-degrading enzyme α-neuraminidase. Sialidosis type 1 is a milder form with a late-onset phenotype, characterized by progressive myoclonic epilepsy and ataxia with cherry-red spots. Sialidosis type 2 is an early-onset and more severe form presenting with dysmorphic features, hepatosplenomegaly and cognitive delay.

Introduction: Prenatal determination of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) and its severity is crucial, as it is a highly morbid condition. The aim was to investigate the intraplacental fetal artery (IFA) as a novel ultrasonographic marker in predicting cesarean-hysterectomy need in PAS.

Methods: A prospective observational cohort study was conducted with a total of 62 women with placenta previa and ≥1 previous cesarean-section who were managed for PAS between September 2022 and January 2024.

Background: Previous reports from relatively small clinical cohorts have suggested that the clinical presentation of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) differs between men and women.

Objective: We aimed to explore sex differences in clinical and polysomnographic features of OSA in a large nationwide registry.

Methods: Participants from the ongoing Turkish Sleep Apnea Database (TURKAPNE) Study from 34 centers were included in the current analysis.

Background: Patients diagnosed with congenital kidney malformations are at an increased risk of developing hypertension, proteinuria, and progressing to chronic kidney disease (CKD). The present study aimed to determine the frequency of masked hypertension and ambulatory arterial stiffness index (AASI) in patients with congenital kidney malformations.

Methods: The study included 174 patients with congenital kidney malformations (48 patients with unilateral renal agenesis (URA), 40 patients with ectopic kidney (EK), 36 patients with horseshoe kidney (HK), 31 patients with multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK), 19 patients with unilateral renal hypoplasia (URH), and 45 healthy controls.

Signs of virilization, such as clitoromegaly, labio-scrotal fusion, and urogenital sinus may be observed in females with 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD) and other rare virilizing forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). This makes sex determination difficult, and multiple reconstructive surgeries in the postnatal period may be required. As 21-OHD is an autosomal recessive disease, the chance of any child being affected is one in four and so only one in eight will be an affected female.

Rare Types of Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasias Other Than 21-hydroxylase Deficiency.

J Clin Res Pediatr Endocrinol

January 2025

University of Health Sciences Turkey, Dr. Sami Ulus Child Health and Diseases Training and Research Hospital, Clinic of Pediatric Endocrinology, Ankara, Turkey

Although the most common cause of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) worldwide is 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD), which accounts for more than 95% of cases, other rare causes of CAH such as 11-beta-hydroxylase deficiency (11β-OHD), 3-beta-hydroxy steroid dehydrogenase (3β-HSD) deficiency, 17-hydroxylase deficiency and lipoid CAH (LCAH) may also be encountered in clinical practice. 11β-OHD is the most common type of CAH after 21-OHD, and CYP11B1 deficiency in adrenal steroidogenesis causes the inability to produce cortisol and aldosterone and the excessive production of adrenal androgens. Although the clinical and laboratory features are similar to 21-OHD, findings of mineralocorticoid deficiency are not observed.

Methods: A total of 92 patients and 49 healthy volunteers who applied to psychiatry outpatient clinic were included in the study.

Methods: The study included patients who had been operated on for endometrioid-type EC in three gynecological oncology centers between 2007 and 2023. The supramesenteric lymph node (SM-LN) is the region between the left renal vein and the IMA, whereas the inframesenteric lymph node (IM-LN) is the region between the IMA and the aortic bifurcation, as determined by the level of the IMA.
