A study aimed to understand how treating gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) affects asthma control in children aged 4 to 16 who have poorly managed asthma.
The research involved 102 kids, discovering that over half had GERD, which was more common in boys. Treatment with omeprazole significantly improved asthma control for most of those who received it.
Although some factors like male sex and normal birth weight seemed linked to better asthma control after GERD treatment, the evidence for a direct causal relationship between acid reflux and asthma wasn't strong.
