Background: The transfer of innovations into healthcare is laden with challenges. Although healthcare professionals are expected to adopt and fulfil new policies, a more person-centered healthcare with conditions for preference-based patient participation is anticipated.

Methods: The aim of the study was to evaluate two implementation strategies for person-centered patient participation in kidney care, including dissemination of a clinical toolkit, and additional training and support of internal facilitators.

The inaugural FEBS Education and Training Conference (ETC) was held in Türkiye, in 2024. This first-ever Molecular Life Sciences Education Conference in Europe was organized by the FEBS Education and Training Committee and it was a groundbreaking event that brought together educators and scientists to explore how to enhance education and training in molecular life sciences. The conference explored a wide range of critical themes, for example-digital revolution, active learning and student engagement, multidisciplinary teaching and learning, transitions and inclusivity in education, students' self-assessment, and self-regulated learning.

The present study investigated the association of the ability to rank sweet and fat taste intensities with consumption frequency of sweet and fatty foods in children, adolescents and adults from eight European countries.

Scenarios for future climate predict an increase in precipitation amounts and frequency of rain events, resulting in higher air humidity and soil moisture at high latitudes, including in northern Europe. We analysed the effects of artificially elevated environmental humidity (air relative humidity and soil moisture) on leaf gas exchange, water relations, growth and phenology of silver birch (Betula pendula) trees growing at the Free Air Humidity Manipulation (FAHM) experimental site situated in the hemiboreal vegetation zone, in eastern Estonia, with no occurring water deficit to the trees. The environmental humidity manipulation did not significantly affect the water relations traits but did affect some leaf gas exchange parameters, growth and phenology of the trees.

Secukinumab (Anti-IL-17A Therapeutic Antibody) Improves Clinical Outcome for a Mixed Endotype CRS.

We identified two CRSwNP patients who had previously failed treatment with an anti-IL-4/IL-13 antibody (dupilumab). Based on their clinical characteristics and blood cytokine levels, we considered them mixed Type II/Type III cases and treated them with an anti-IL-17 antibody (secukinumab). Anti-IL-17 antibody secukinumab was superior in reducing their NPS and SNOT-22 values compared to dupilumab.

In this article, we investigate the impact of sulfoxaflor, a novel sulfoximine insecticide, and azoxystrobin, a widely used strobilurin fungicide, on bumble bee Bombus terrestris worker survival and physiological functions.

Incidence and survival of rare adult solid cancers in Europe (EUROCARE-6): A population-based study.

Background: Rare cancers correspond to approximately 200 clinical entities, which can be grouped into 12 families. Updated data are available for childhood and haematological cancers, ie, for only two of the 12 families of rare cancer. We provide incidence and survival for the remaining ten families of rare adult solid cancers (RAC), across 29 EU Member States and over time.

The path of GPR87: from a P2Y-like receptor to its role in cancer progression.

GPR87 is a G protein-coupled seven-transmembrane receptor first described as an orphan receptor in 2001. Despite its high structural homology to several extracellular nucleotide-activated P2Y receptors and sharing conserved sequence motifs in transmembrane regions, identification of endogenous ligands from the class of nucleotides and their analogues has failed for GPR87. Although lysophosphatidic acid was proposed to be a natural ligand for this cell surface receptor, these data are preliminary and inconsistent, and IUPHAR is currently considering GPR87 as an orphan receptor.

This study introduces the Environmental Health Citizen Interview Tool, aiming to inclusively capture diverse perspectives on environmental wellbeing using qualitative research methods. The principles of epistemic justice and planetary health are central to its development.

SARS-CoV-2 N protein recruits G3BP to double membrane vesicles to promote translation of viral mRNAs.

Ras-GTPase-activating protein SH3-domain-binding proteins (G3BP) are critical for the formation of stress granules (SGs) through their RNA- and ribosome-binding properties. SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) protein exhibits strong binding affinity for G3BP and inhibits infection-induced SG formation soon after infection. To study the impact of the G3BP-N interaction on viral replication and pathogenesis in detail, we generated a mutant SARS-CoV-2 (RATA) that specifically lacks the G3BP-binding motif in the N protein.

Observational health research often relies on accurate and complete race and ethnicity (RE) patient information, such as characterizing cohorts, assessing quality/performance metrics of hospitals and health systems, and identifying health disparities. While the electronic health record contains structured data such as accessible patient-level RE data, it is often missing, inaccurate, or lacking granular details. Natural language processing models can be trained to identify RE in clinical text which can supplement missing RE data in clinical data repositories.

Guidelines for Caring for Incapacitated Teachers and Students at Former Jesuit Colleges in Europe.

The aim of this article is to explore the regulations governing the treatment of incapacitated people in former Jesuit colleges in Europe, focusing on the academic staff and students residing in these institutions. This treatment was strongly influenced by the spirituality of Ignatius of Loyola, who perceived disease in dual terms: as an evil to be combated through all available means and as a test of faith from God. Ignatius instructed college superiors to prioritize the care of the sick and appointed specific officers within the community, such as prefects of health, nurses, and pharmacists, while also formulating detailed rules for the care and treatment of the sick.
