Purpose: The segmentation of target volume and organs at risk (OAR) was a significant part of radiotherapy. Specifically, determining the location and scale of the esophagus in simulated computed tomography images was difficult and time-consuming primarily due to its complex structure and low contrast with the surrounding tissues. In this study, an Enhanced Cross-stage-attention U-Net was proposed to solve the segmentation problem for the esophageal gross tumor volume (GTV) and clinical tumor volume (CTV) in CT images.

Introduction: The early detection of esophageal cancer is crucial to enhancing patient survival rates, and endoscopy remains the gold standard for identifying esophageal neoplasms. Despite this fact, accurately diagnosing superficial esophageal neoplasms poses a challenge, even for seasoned endoscopists. Recent advancements in computer-aided diagnostic systems, empowered by artificial intelligence (AI), have shown promising results in elevating the diagnostic precision for early-stage esophageal cancer.

The presence of () infection has been indicated to have a protective influence on esophageal cancer (EC) in some studies, but its specific impact on the risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and esophageal adenocarcinoma remains inconclusive. This manuscript comment addresses the recent study by López-Gómez . Despite it was a retrospective observational study without a control group, this study revealed a notably low prevalence of infection among EC patients, indicating a potential association between and EC in Spain.

Background: The rare incidence of small cell carcinoma of the esophagus (SCCE) makes prospective studies difficult to conduct, the efficacy of existing standard treatment regimens for SCCE is therefore highly controversial. This study aimed to explore differences in the efficacy of three different treatment regimens [upfront surgery, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT), and chemoradiotherapy (CRT)] in patients with limited-stage SCCE (LS-SCCE).
Methods: In total, 483 patients with LS-SCCE were screened from five centers from June 2001 to June 2020, and 128 patients with LS-SCCE were screened from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database.

Background: The clinicoradiological staging for esophageal cancer is fraught with variable accuracy, potentially depriving patients who have been understaged of the benefit of neoadjuvant therapy, which has been shown to improve long-term survival in locally advanced malignancies. It is imperative to identify these high-risk tumors for tailored treatment.
Methods: Retrospective analysis of a prospective database of patients undergoing esophagectomy for carcinoma esophagus between 2011 and 2019.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the stomach is a rare entity with fewer than 100 cases of primary SCC reported in the literature, while esophageal SCC is prevalent and more common. However, a synchronous squamous cell carcinoma found in the esophagus and stomach remains very uncommon. We present the case of a 64-year-old with a history of dysphagia who had an endoscopy that showed an impassable stenosis of the middle esophagus, with histopathology in favor of an esophagus squamous cell carcinoma.

is a microaerophilic gram-negative bacterium infecting around half of the world's population. Despite its well-known role in gastric malignancies, its impact on esophageal cancer comes with a complex paradox. Several mechanisms have been proposed to explain its observed lack of carcinogenic activity in the esophagus, including the trigger of anti-inflammatory pathways, promoting atrophic gastritis, and esophageal microbiome modulation.
