An unusual infiltrative basal cell carcinoma with osteoclastic stromal changes mimicking carcinosarcoma: a case report.

A 91-year-old man presented with an ulcerated nodule on his left lower eyelid. The tumor showed an epithelial component composed of basaloid and clear cells and a stroma that contained many osteoclastic giant cells. Strong, diffuse expression for cytokeratin 17 and p63 was noted in the epithelial component, whereas no staining was present in the sarcomatoid stroma, suggesting that the osteoclast-rich stromal component represented an unusual benign stromal reaction to the carcinoma rather than a manifestation of carcinosarcoma.

Bilirubin levels and their association with carotid intima media thickness and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein in patients with psoriasis vulgaris.

Background: Psoriasis vulgaris is associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis. Carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) may predict atherosclerosis.

Aims: We assessed the correlation between bilirubin (a potent endogenous antioxidant) levels and cIMT in patients with psoriasis vulgaris.

Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and carotid-intima media thickness in patients with Behçet disease without cardiovascular involvement.

Behçet disease (BD) is associated with endothelial dysfunction and chronic inflammation. The neutrophil-lymphocyte (N/L) ratio and carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) are markers of inflammation and vascular risk, respectively. We assessed the relationship between cIMT values and N/L ratio in BD (65 patients and 62 control participants).

Prevalence of skin diseases in a dermatology outpatient clinic in Turkey. A cross-sectional, retrospective study.

Background: Dermatologic diseases vary widely as a result of geographic location, climate, socioeconomic status, and personal habits, and internal factors, such as age, gender, and heredity.

Objective: The aim of the study was to determine the main causes for outpatient visits in a dermatology outpatient clinic in Turkey.

Materials And Methods: The outpatient clinic records of the Dermatology Department of Eskisehir Yunus Emre Government Hospital, dated between 1 January 2011 and 1 January 2012, were retrospectively assessed.

Endocan--a novel inflammatory indicator in newly diagnosed patients with hypertension: a pilot study.

Endothelial dysfunction is regarded as the initial lesion in the development of atherosclerosis. Endocan, previously called endothelial cell-specific molecule 1 (ESM-1), is a new candidate immunoinflammatory marker that may be associated with cardiometabolic risk factors. Therefore, we assessed serum levels of endocan in newly diagnosed patients with untreated essential hypertension (HT).

Radiofrequency catheter ablation of ventricular tachycardia in a military parachuter.

Background: Premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) presenting as isolated complexes are insignificant, but if they present as salvos they are considered indicators of high risk for potentially fatal arrhythmias.

Case Report: We present the case of a 39-yr-old male military parachuter with PVCs and ventricular tachycardia that were incidentally detected on ECG and treated with radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA). He had no significant past medical history.

An analysis of 45 patients with pure nasal fractures.

Background: Nasal fracture is generally encountered alone or in combination with other serious injuries. The objective of this study was to analyze patients who had pure nasal fracture.

Methods: Forty-five records from patients with pure nasal fracture treated in the hospital between 7 October 2005 and 14 December 2011 were included.

Cardiac responses to long duration and high magnitude +Gz exposure in pilots: an observational study.

Objective: In military aviation, high performance aircraft pilots are exposed to +Gz acceleration at longer durations and higher magnitude than transport/helicopter pilots. The purpose of this study was to reveal the negative or positive cardiac responses to this occupational high +Gz exposure.

Methods: Our study design was cross-sectional and observational.
