A rare case of penis agenesis (Aphallia) with associated multiple urogenital anomalies.

The penis as a component of external genitalia, takes part in fertility, urinary and psychosexual structure of males with its complex character. We report a case of penis agenesis with associated left renal agenesis, left superior segment ureteral agenesis, prostate agenesis, left ureterocele, right vesicoureteral reflux and high urethrorectal communication above the rectal sphincter. The patient refused any surgical intervention because of his religious beliefs.

A New Reduction Mastopexy Design for Young Women: Snowman Pattern.

Background: Many young women are satisfied with their large breasts but suffer from sagging due to heaviness. In this article; we present a novel modification of vertical scar breast reduction based on a special indication.

Methods: From January 2006 to May 2012, twenty five individual patients underwent operation using modified technique with superior pedicle and vertical scar.

A novel technique for spreader graft placement without dorsum resection during septoplasty.

Objective: This paper presents a novel method for spreader graft placement without dorsum resection in patients who have a deviated septum with a narrow internal nasal valve angle.

Methods: A Killian incision was used for the endonasal septoplasty, and all spreader grafts were harvested from excised deviated septal cartilages. Procedures were conducted under general anaesthesia at the same centre by the same surgical team that performed the endonasal procedure.

A prospective randomized controlled trial assessing the efficacy of adjunctive hyperbaric oxygen therapy in the treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) appears to enhance wound healing, increase bactericidal activity, and act synergistically with a number of antibiotics. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of HBOT as an adjunctive therapy in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) treated with a combination of systemic rifampicin and clindamycin. The study was a prospective, single-center, single-dose, open-label, randomized controlled clinical study of HBOT in patients with moderate to severe HS.

Ischemia-Modified Albumin and Atherosclerosis in Patients With Familial Mediterranean Fever.

The constriction of vessels due to atherosclerotic lesions causes hypoxia/ischemia and oxidative changes resulting in transformation of free albumin to ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) in the circulation and increased carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT). We investigated the reliability of IMA increase in evaluating atherosclerosis in patients with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) compared with cIMT. Patients with FMF (n = 58) diagnosed by the Tel-Hashomer criteria in attack-free period and 38 healthy people were included in the study.

Arterial stiffness and endothelial inflammation in prediabetes and newly diagnosed diabetes patients.

Objective: There is a growing body of data supporting the association between diabetes and microcirculatory disfunction. We aimed to study e-selectin levels, and their associations with serum markers of inflammation and arterial stiffness in prediabetes and newly diagnosed diabetes patients in this study.

Subjects And Methods: Sixty patients (25 females) with a newly established elevated fasting serum glucose [20 impaired fasting glucose (IFG), 20 impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), 20 newly diagnosed diabetes (T2DM)] and 17 healthy controls (13 females) were included in the study.

Assessment of subjective sleep quality in iron deficiency anaemia.

Objectives: We aimed to assess the effect of anemia on subjective sleep quality in patients with iron deficiency anemia (IDA).

Methods: One hundred and four patients diagnosed with IDA and 80 healthy individuals, who are gender and age matched, were included in the study. All participants were requested to fill 3 forms: a socio-demographic form (age, gender, marital status, income level and educational status), hospital anxiety and depression (HAD) scale and pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI).

Acoustic Hearing After Murine Cochlear Implantation: Effects of Trauma and Implant Type.

Objectives: To model the contribution of implant material and insertion trauma on loss of acoustic hearing after cochlear implantation in an appropriate animal model.

Methods: Sixty-five C57Bl/6J mice underwent unilateral implantation with implant grade materials: 2 implant grade silicones and a third uncoated platinum wire. A sham surgery group was included as a control.

Open Versus Closed Septorhinoplasty Approaches for Postoperative Edema and Ecchymosis.

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare periorbital edema and ecchymosis seen after closed (endonasal) and open (external) septorhinoplasty (SRP).

Methods: In total, 50 patients undergoing hump extraction and osteotomies were allocated to 2 groups. Group 1 consisted of 25 patients who underwent closed SRP.

A rare cause of infertility: intratesticular varicocele associated with ipsilateral extratesticular varicocele.

Intratesticular varicocele is an uncommon condition with variable sonographic appearence and identified as dilated intratesticular veins lying from the mediastinum through testicular parenchyma. We present a case of a 20-year-old male, married and unable to conceive for 2 years. Routine scrotal sonography disclosed extratesticular varicocele which was associated with ipsilateral intratesticular varicocele.

Neuropsychological Evaluation of Children and Adolescents With Acute Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.

Objectives: Carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a worldwide health problem. We have limited information regarding psychological adversities of CO poisoning in children and adolescents. The aim of this study was (1) to investigate the effects of severe CO poisoning on cognitive functions, mood, and behaviors in children and adolescents and (2) to identify factors related to occurrence of neuropsychological symptoms.

Evaluation of autopsy reports in terms of preventability of traumatic deaths.

Background: The analysis of autopsy reports plays an important role in the evaluation of trauma care quality. The objective of this study was to determine the rate of preventable deaths and medical errors in regard to the autopsy reports as an indicator of trauma care quality in traumatic deaths.

Methods: A retrospective review of traumatic autopsy reports kept between 2011 and 2012 in Eskişehir, Turkey was conducted.
