November 2024

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Erzurum State Hospital, Erzurum, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • The rise in midface and temporal lifting procedures is driven by social media trends and younger patients' desire for beautification rather than traditional rejuvenation, favoring scarless techniques.
  • A retrospective study of 184 patients utilizing a dual-plane lifting method showed significant improvements in facial volume distribution post-surgery with manageable complications.
  • This dual-plane approach minimizes visible scars and enhances facial aesthetics, making it a viable option for those seeking both beauty and rejuvenation, despite some risks like infection.

A New Multiplane Dissection Method for Frontotemporal Lift and Fixation.

J Craniofac Surg

October 2024

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and esthetic Surgery, Erzurum State Hospital, Erzurum, Turkey.

Lifting procedures of the upper face have gained significant popularity, and various methods and dissection planes have been described. Background: Doxorubicin is an effective antineoplastic agent but has limited clinical application because of its cumulative toxicities, including cardiotoxicity. Cardiotoxicity causes lipid peroxidation, genetic impairment, oxidative stress, inhibition of autophagy, and disruption of calcium homeostasis. Doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity is frequently tried to be mitigated by phytochemicals, which are derived from plants and possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties.

In clinical practice, inadequate pain inhibition leads to increased morbidity and mortality. Increased intracellular calcium, oxidants, and proinflammatory cytokines are known to play a role in the pathogenesis of postoperative pain. Therefore, we investigated the analgesic effects of benidipine, paracetamol, and benidipine-paracetamol combination (BPC) on postoperative and normal pain thresholds in rats.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to show that the Controlling Nutritional Status (CONUT) score has predictive value in gastric cancer (GC) patients treated with perioperative fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, or docetaxel (FLOT).

Methods: A total of 161 GC patients treated with perioperative FLOT in our center were included in the study. The ideal cutoff values for the CONUT score were obtained using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, and the patients were divided into low (≤3) and high (> 3) CONUT groups.

Objective: Although pediatric central venous catheterization is performed using ultrasound guidance, it is still a challenge. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of the syringe-free, long-axis in-plane approach and compared the short-axis classic out-of-plane approach for ultrasound-guided central venous catheter placement in critically ill pediatric patients.

Design: Prospective randomized study.

Background: Atherosclerosis, a chronic inflammatory disorder of the arteries, is responsible for the greatest number of deaths in westernized societies, with numbers increasing at a marked rate in developing countries. Coronary calcium score (CCS), carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) are predictors for the development of atherosclerosis.

Objectives: This study was aimed to investigate the relationship between CCS, CIMT and PAPP-A for earlier diagnosis of atherosclerosis.

Aim: To determine, by counting sister chromatid exchange (SCE) frequencies, whether genetic impairment and DNA damage have an effect on the pathogenesis of gastric cancer (GC).

Methods: Analysis of SCE is a cytogenetic technique used to show DNA damage as a result of an exchange of DNA fragments between sister chromatids. We analyzed SCE frequency in 24 patients with GC, 26 patients with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG), and 15 normal controls.
