Shear wave elastography (SWE) is a non-invasive imaging technique used to quantify the elasticity/stiffness of any tissue. There are normative SWE studies on tonsils in healthy children in the literature. The purpose of this study is to analyze the palatine tonsils in children with acute tonsillitis using ultrasound and SWE.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the connections between obesity, Vitamin D deficiency, and protein oxidation in children, comparing various metabolic markers across different weight categories.
  • Results show that obese children had significantly lower Vitamin D levels compared to their pre-obese and normal-weight peers, with additional findings indicating that these levels vary by gender and developmental stage.
  • High triglyceride levels were linked to disruptions in thiol-disulfide balance, highlighting that low Vitamin D, puberty, and elevated triglycerides negatively impact this system.

Purpose: Although the findings of acute new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection on dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) have recently been defined, the long-term changes in lung perfusion associated with COVID-19 pneumonia have not yet been clarified. We aimed to examine the longterm course of lung perfusion in COVID-19 pneumonia cases using DECT and to compare changes in lung perfusion to clinical and laboratory findings.

Methods: On initial and follow-up DECT scans, the presence and extent of perfusion deficit (PD) and parenchymal changes were assessed.

Background: Physical examination findings such as limited hip abduction (LHA), asymmetric skin creases (ASC), and a popping sensation in the hip facilitate the diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Screening with a simple physical examination during the first weeks of infancy is important for early detection of the condition, and a wide range of medical professionals, including general practitioners, obstetricians, pediatricians, and orthopedic surgeons etc. are involved in this process.
