Arthroscopic treatment of intra-artricularly localised pigmented villonodular synovitis of the ankle: 4 cases with long-term follow-up.

Background Context: Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a rare, locally aggressive benign proliferative pathology of synovial tissue. Lesions are classified regarding location as diffuse or localised which are same as histologically. Intra-articularly localised type is relatively rare, especially in the ankle joint.

The high frequency of superior labrum, biceps tendon, and superior rotator cuff pathologies in patients with subscapularis tears: A cohort study.

Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the frequency of superior labrum anterior posterior (SLAP) lesions, long head of biceps tendon (LHBT) pathologies, and superior rotator cuff tears accompanying subscapularis tears. We hypothesised that LHBT lesions, superior rotator cuff tears, and especially SLAP lesions were very frequent with subscapularis tears.

Methods: The digital files of patients who underwent shoulder arthroscopy were reviewed retrospectively.

Simple method for increasing drug elution from polymethylmethacrylate bone cement.

Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effects of the use of citric acid and sodium bicarbonate mixture as an effervescent in polymethylmethacrylate bone cement in terms of better drug elution.

Patients And Methods: Multiple cylinder cement blocks each containing 10 g of glucose and different amounts of effervescent (E), with different numbers of pieces (P), surface areas, volumes, and porosities were prepared. Physical properties of all blocks were calculated.

Evaluation of testicular catch-up growth in adolescent microsurgical varicocelectomy.

Objective: The incidence of varicocele is approximately 15% in adolecent men. Early treatment with varicocele is aimed to resolve testicular hypotrophy and ensure catch-up growth. The aim of this study was to evaluate ipsilateral catch-up growth rates relative to contralateral testicular growth in adolescents with varicocele undergoing microsurgical subinguinal varicocelectomy.

Introduction: Benidipine has been reported to prevent the ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) damage in heart tissue and to suppress oxidant and proinflammatory cytokine production, increased by I/R. However, There was no information about the effects of benidipine on I/R injury in the ovary and the damage of I/R-induced infertility.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of benidipine on bilateral ovarian I/R injury and whether or not effective in the treatment of I/R-induced infertility in rats.

Evaluation of thiol-disulphide homeostasis in radiation workers.

Purpose: To evaluate thiol-disulphide homeostasis - a novel, easily calculated, readily available, and relatively cheap oxidative stress marker - in radiation workers and compare the results with healthy controls.

Materials And Methods: A total of 108 participants were enrolled in the study including 63 hospital workers occupationally exposed to ionizing radiation in the units of interventional radiology, interventional cardiology and nuclear medicine. A control group consisted of 45 individuals staff in the same hospital.

Effect of obturator nerve block during transurethral resection of lateral bladder wall tumors on the presence of detrusor muscle in tumor specimens and recurrence of the disease.

We investigated the effect of spinal anesthesia combined with obturator nerve block (ONB) during the transurethral resection of lateral bladder wall tumors (TUR-BT) on the presence of detrusor muscle tissue in tumor specimens and on tumor recurrence. TUR-BT was performed on 96 patients with a lateral bladder wall tumor under spinal anesthesia in our clinic between January 2011 and December 2015. The patients were divided into two groups: 49 patients only received spinal anesthesia and 47 patients received spinal anesthesia combined with ONB.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the possible role of HPV in the development of prostate cancer (PCa) and investigate the distribution of the p53 codon 72 polymorphism in PCa in a Turkish population.

Materials And Methods: A total of 96 tissues, which had been obtained using a radical surgery method, formalin-fixed and parafin-embedded, were used in this study. The study group consisted of 60 PCa tissues (open radical prostatectomy) and the control group contained 36 benign prostatic hyperplasia tissues (BPH) (transvesical open prostatectomy).

The effects of low-dose radiotherapy on fresh osteochondral allografts: An experimental study in rabbits.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of low-dose fractionated radiotherapy on cartilage degeneration after distal femoral fresh massive osteochondral allograft transplantation.

Methods: Twenty-four New Zealand White rabbits were divided into three groups of 8 rabbits each. All rabbits underwent distal femoral medial condyle fresh massive osteochondral allograft transplantation from California rabbits.

Lesser tuberosity cysts and their relationship with subscapularis tears and subcoracoid impingement.

Background: We aimed to evaluate cysts in the lesser tuberosity of humeral head seen on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and their relationship with subcoracoid impingement and subscapularis tears evident on arthroscopic surgery videos. Our hypothesis was that the cysts would be more frequent with subscapularis tears and in the case of subcoracoid impingement.

Methods: Patients who underwent shoulder arthroscopy between January 2010 and January 2016 were retrieved to evaluate subscapularis tears on surgery videos and lesser tuberosity cysts (LTC), coracohumeral distances (CHD) on both sagittal oblique and transverse sections of MRI retrospectively.

The comparison of bedside point-of-care ultrasound and computed tomography in elbow injuries.

Objective: The objective of the study was to compare the efficacy of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) and computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis of the fracture of the bones that form the elbow joint and the determination of treatment method in elbow injuries.

Methods: Forty-nine patients aged 5 to 65 years, who were admitted with low-energy elbow injuries, had at least 1 fracture of the elbow joint bones, and underwent CT scanning, were included in this study. Before the initiation of the study, orthopedic surgeons and emergency physicians determined a common treatment based on the fracture characteristics.

Introduction: Left atrium (LA) mechanical functions and atrial electromechanical delay (AEMD) times were considered independent predictors of cardiovascular morbidity in general population. Data are scant about these parameters in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD). We aimed to evaluate AEMD times and LA mechanical functions and associated risk factors in HD and PD patients.
