Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to compare childhood-onset schizophrenia (COS) and early-onset schizophrenia (EOS) in terms of clinical characteristics, treatment approaches, and factors influencing prognosis.
  • It involved analyzing data from 31 COS and 66 EOS patients, assessing their symptoms and treatment effectiveness using established scales during both acute and stable phases.
  • Significant differences were found in treatment outcomes and symptom severity between the two groups, with COS patients showing higher comorbidities and requiring more complex treatments, highlighting the need for early diagnosis and specific predictors for better management of schizophrenia.

Article Synopsis
  • This study compares two surgical methods, Hartmann's procedure (HP) and resection with primary anastomosis (RPA), for treating acute left-sided colonic emergencies among 1215 patients from 204 centers globally.
  • Results showed that while HP was the more common treatment (57.3%), RPA was favored for younger patients with fewer health issues and those needing surgery sooner.
  • The study concluded that although HP is still widely used, RPA might be the better option, emphasizing the importance of patient characteristics and surgeon experience in determining treatment choice.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent cardiac arrhythmia worldwide and is associated with an increased risk of thromboembolism, ischemic stroke, impaired quality of life, and mortality. The latest research that shows the prevalence and incidence of AF patients in Türkiye was the Turkish Adults' Heart Disease and Risk Factors study, which included 3,450 patients and collected data until 2006/07.The Turkish Real Life Atrial Fibrillation in Clinical Practice (TRAFFIC) study is planned to present current prevalence data, reveal the reflection of new treatment and risk approaches in our country, and develop new prediction models in terms of outcomes.

Objective: A 1-day point prevalence study was planned to obtain country data by determining the clinical characteristics, follow-up and treatment methods of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases that required intensive care unit (ICU) treatment in the second year of the pandemic.

Material And Methods: All patients who were hospitalized in the ICUs due to COVID-19 between March 11, 2022, 08.00 am, and March 12, 2022, 08.

Objectives: To present the clinical and demographic characteristics, imaging findings, diagnosis and treatment approach in cases of cat scratch disease (CSD) with ocular involvement.

Materials And Methods: The records of 19 patients followed-up and treated between 2010 and 2020, including detailed ophthalmological examinations, imaging findings, and treatment approach, were evaluated retrospectively.

Results: Twenty-three eyes of 19 patients, 7 female (37%) and 12 male (63%), were included in the study.

Objective: The present study was aimed at investigating the effects of anti-seizure medications (ASMs), patient demographic characteristics, and the seizure type and frequency on the development of congenital malformations (CMs) in the infants of pregnant women with epilepsy (PWWE).

Methods: PWWE followed up at the neurology outpatient clinic of 21 centers between 2014 and 2019 were included in this prospective study. The follow-up of PWWE was conducted using structured, general pregnant follow-up forms prepared by the Pregnancy and Epilepsy Study Committee.

Objective: To evaluate nitric oxide (NO) and asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) levels in men with premature ejaculation (PE), which is a common condition that adversely affects quality of life.

Material And Method: Of the 20-50-year old men presenting to the urology clinic, who were married or had regular sexual intercourse, 40 that were diagnosed with lifelong PE according to the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT) and intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) measured by a stopwatch were included in the study. The results of the PE group were compared to those of the control group formed with 40 healthy hospital personnel.

Objectives: To compare the survival of first- and second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in patients with rare EGFR exon 18 and exon 20 mutation-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated survival characteristics of 125 patients with EGFR exon 18 and exon 20 mutated NSCLC who received erlotinib or afatinib as first line treatment between 2012 and 2021 from 34 oncology centres. Since exon 20 insertion is associated with TKI resistance, these 18 patients were excluded from the study.

Objective: Both fibroadenomas (FAs) and phyllodes tumors (PTs) are classified as fibroepithelial lesions. PTs are rare fibroepithelial neoplasms that have a morphologic spectrum ranging from benign to malignant. The differentiation of these entities is important as PTs are to be enucleated surgically.

Introduction: Ado-trastuzumab emtansine (T-DM1) is an antibody-drug conjugate and its survival advantage has been shown in advanced human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive breast cancer. However, clinical trials underrepresent patients ⩾65 years of age, leading to a lack of information in this population. We analyzed the real-world outcomes of older women who were treated with T-DM1 therapy.

Background: Heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is a highly prevalent disease that requires repeating hospitalizations, causes significant morbidity and mortality. Therefore, early recognition of poor outcome predictors is essential for patient management.

Objective: The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) detected by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and repolarization parameters such as corrected QT (QTc) interval, Tp-e interval, frontal QRS-T angle detected by 12 lead electrocardiograph (ECG) in HFrEF.
