A common observation in diabetic kidney disease is lipid accumulation, but the mechanism(s) underlying this pathology is unknown. Inhibition of Vascular endothelial growth factor B (VEGF-B) signaling was shown to prevent glomerular lipid accumulation and ameliorated diabetic kidney disease in experimental models. Here, we examined kidney biopsies from patients with Type 2 (84 %) and Type 1 diabetes (16 %), combined with data mining of RNA-seq dataset analyses in patients with diabetic kidney disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a strong risk factor for cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. We hypothesized that a senescent phenotype instigated by uremic toxins could account for early vascular aging (EVA) and vascular dysfunctions of microvasculature in end stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients which ultimately lead to increased cardiovascular complication. To test this hypothesis, we utilized both in vivo, and ex vivo approaches to study endothelial and smooth muscle function and structure, and characterized markers related to EVA in 82 ESKD patients (eGFR <15 ml/min) and 70 non-CKD controls.

Objectives: To test the hypothesis that weight loss following bariatric surgery is associated with a reduced risk of developing carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) compared with obese patients who do not undergo bariatric surgery.
Methods: We performed a cohort study using data from the Swedish nationwide healthcare registries. Patients aged 18-79 years who underwent bariatric surgery from 2006 to 2019 were propensity score (PS)-matched to up to 2 obese bariatric surgery-free patients ("unexposed patients").

Preoperative radiotherapy (RT) for non-metastatic rectal cancer reduces local recurrence rates but can cause pelvic insufficiency fractures. Despite the high morbidity from RT-induced skeletal injuries, predictive and preventive measures are lacking. How these injuries are reflected by bone biomarkers are largely unknown.

Senescence is an important cellular program occurring in development, tissue repair, cancer, and aging. Increased senescence is also associated with disease states, including obesity and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). Characterizing and quantifying senescent cells at a single cell level has been challenging and particularly difficult in large primary cells, such as human adipocytes.

Background And Study Aims: Lynch syndrome (LS) is a hereditary autosomal dominant condition, with an increased lifetime risk of developing malignancies including colorectal cancer (CRC). Current guidelines differ in recommended colonoscopy-surveillance intervals from 1 to 2 years. Although colonoscopy is considered a safe procedure, there are risks of severe adverse events (SAEs), such as perforation and bleeding, as well as adverse events (AEs), such as abdominal discomfort and post-colonoscopy gastrointestinal infections.

Introduction: Youth with diabetes should transition from paediatric to adult diabetes services in a deliberate, organized and cooperative way. We sought to identify healthcare professionals' (HCPs) experiences and perceptions around transition readiness planning, policies and procedures, and the actual transfer to adult services.
Methods: Data were collected via an online global survey (seven language options), broadly advertised by the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD), European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), team members and partners, via newsletters, websites, e-mails and social media.

Risk factors for colorectal cancer (CRC) in Lynch syndrome (LS) include sex, age, smoking, high body mass index (BMI), surveillance interval length, and risk genotype. The Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS) produces a standardized bowel cleanliness rating. A low BBPS score might be a risk factor for missed early lesions.

Aim: Previous research has indicated that preoperative beta blocker therapy is associated with a decreased risk of complications after surgery for rectal cancer. This is thought to arise because of the anti-inflammatory activity of the drug. These results need to be reproduced and analyses extended to other drugs with such properties, as this information might be useful in clinical decision-making.

Background: Surgical repair of paraesophageal hernias (PEHs) is burdened with high recurrence rates, and hitherto various techniques explored to enforce the traditional crural repair have not been successful. The hiatal reconstruction in PEH is exposed to significant tension, which may be minimized by adding a diaphragmatic relaxing incision to enhance the durability of the crural repair.
Patients And Methods: All individuals undergoing elective laparoscopic repair of a large PEH, irrespective of age, were considered eligible.
