Introduction: Obesity may increase complexity of surgical procedures and increase the risk of perioperative complications. Weight reduction by the use of low energy diet (LED, ≤1200 kcal/day) or very low energy diet (VLED, ≤800 kcal/day) can reduce postoperative complications after bariatric surgery, but for most other types of surgery the evidence for its use remains uncertain. The aim of this systematic review was therefore to evaluate the scientific evidence in general for this routine.

A common observation in diabetic kidney disease is lipid accumulation, but the mechanism(s) underlying this pathology is unknown. Inhibition of Vascular endothelial growth factor B (VEGF-B) signaling was shown to prevent glomerular lipid accumulation and ameliorated diabetic kidney disease in experimental models. Here, we examined kidney biopsies from patients with Type 2 (84%) and Type 1 diabetes (16%), combined with data mining of RNA-seq dataset analyses in patients with diabetic kidney disease.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a strong risk factor for cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. We hypothesized that a senescent phenotype instigated by uremic toxins could account for early vascular aging (EVA) and vascular dysfunctions of microvasculature in end stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients which ultimately lead to increased cardiovascular complication. To test this hypothesis, we utilized both in vivo, and ex vivo approaches to study endothelial and smooth muscle function and structure, and characterized markers related to EVA in 82 ESKD patients (eGFR <15 ml/min) and 70 non-CKD controls.

Objectives: To test the hypothesis that weight loss following bariatric surgery is associated with a reduced risk of developing carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) compared with obese patients who do not undergo bariatric surgery.
Methods: We performed a cohort study using data from the Swedish nationwide healthcare registries. Patients aged 18-79 years who underwent bariatric surgery from 2006 to 2019 were propensity score (PS)-matched to up to 2 obese bariatric surgery-free patients ("unexposed patients").

Objectives: Despite rapid expansion of treatments for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and the importance of symptom management for enhancing quality of life, few studies have focused on men's experiences of symptom burden over time when receiving one or more lines of treatment in a real-world situation in this phase. The aim was to investigate changes in the multidimensional symptom burden during the first year of life-prolonging treatment of mCRPC.
Methods: Longitudinal data from the first year of life-prolonging treatment for 134 men with mCRPC were used.

Senescence is an important cellular program occurring in development, tissue repair, cancer, and aging. Increased senescence is also associated with disease states, including obesity and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). Characterizing and quantifying senescent cells at a single cell level has been challenging and particularly difficult in large primary cells, such as human adipocytes.

Background And Study Aims: Lynch syndrome (LS) is a hereditary autosomal dominant condition, with an increased lifetime risk of developing malignancies including colorectal cancer (CRC). Current guidelines differ in recommended colonoscopy-surveillance intervals from 1 to 2 years. Although colonoscopy is considered a safe procedure, there are risks of severe adverse events (SAEs), such as perforation and bleeding, as well as adverse events (AEs), such as abdominal discomfort and post-colonoscopy gastrointestinal infections.

Risk factors for colorectal cancer (CRC) in Lynch syndrome (LS) include sex, age, smoking, high body mass index (BMI), surveillance interval length, and risk genotype. The Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS) produces a standardized bowel cleanliness rating. A low BBPS score might be a risk factor for missed early lesions.
