BACKGROUND Regional inflammation-induced local vasodilation may exist in cases of appendicitis. In this study, the diameters of the ileocolic artery (ICA) and ileocolic vein (ICV) were measured using contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography (CT) scans in acute appendicitis cases. The study aimed to measure the diagnostic value of these measurements in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis.

This study is aimed to determine the prevalence and morphometric characteristics of the pterygospinous (Ps) and pterygoalar (Pa) bars using computed tomography (CT) images on an extensive study sample of the Anatolian population. The CT images of 700 patients (350 males, 350 females) were analyzed for morphological characteristics and Pa and Ps bars. Ps and Pa bars were classified as complete or incomplete (partial) depending on the degree of ossification.

Article Synopsis
  • Elastofibroma dorsi (ED) is a rare benign tumor found mostly in women over 50, typically located in the subscapular area and detected incidentally through chest CT scans.
  • A study at Hitit University analyzed 3,299 patients, finding ED in 79 (2.4%), with a higher prevalence in females (75.9%) and a median age of 57.5 years; the incidence was significantly age-related.
  • The study highlights that ED is often missed in initial radiology reports due to its similar appearance to surrounding tissues, underscoring the need for radiologists to be more aware of its characteristics for early detection.

: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global public health issue with rising incidence linked to substantial morbidity and mortality. Selenium, an antioxidant trace element, has been linked to low serum levels in end-stage renal disease. Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), a sleep disorder, is prevalent in CKD patients and significantly impacts their quality of life.

Introduction The global elderly population is expanding, with chronic conditions like diabetes diminishing their quality of life. Sodium-glucose co-transporter type 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors hold promise in improving quality of life by addressing hypervolemia, obesity, and lipid irregularities. However, these drugs can lead to adverse effects, such as polyuria, dehydration, and weight loss, which may detrimentally impact older patients.

Introduction Diabetic nephropathy associated with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant public health problem due to its high morbidity and mortality. We aimed to improve the estimation of proteinuria in diabetic patients and potentially enhance risk stratification and clinical management strategies with the assessment of the correlation of the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), low-density lipoprotein/albumin ratio (LAR), and red cell distribution width/albumin ratio (RAR) with the proteinuria in the uncontrolled diabetes patient population. Methods This was a retrospective study including 327 patients with uncontrolled diabetes (HbA1c > 10%) seen in an outpatient clinic.

Objective: It is known that in the digital age we live in, people try to get information on many medical issues through Internet searches. Especially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic triggering mental problems and health professionals' stay-at-home warnings, it has become difficult for individuals to receive psychiatric help, and this has encouraged accessing information about mental problems and their treatments through Internet searches. In this context, infodemiologic research, especially with Google Trends (GT; Google LLC, Mountain View, California, United States), has become very popular in recent years.

Background: We aimed to investigate whether there was a relationship between diabetic peripheral distal neuropathy (DPDN), one of the most common chronic complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and the uric acid/HDL ratio, which can be used as an indicator of poor metabolic status.

Methodology: The study consisted of a total of 150 subjects, including 50 patients with T2DM (group 1) who were determined to have diabetic peripheral distal neuropathy with electroneuromyography (ENMG), 50 patients with T2DM who were determined to not have DPDN in their ENMG (group 2), and 50 healthy individuals (group 3). Participants' serum fasting blood glucose (FBG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), uric acid, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglyceride levels were analyzed.
