Background: Glenoid version is an important factor in the evaluation of shoulder stability and shoulder pathologies. However, there are neither established reference values nor known factors that influence the glenoid version, even though valid reference values are needed for diagnostic and orthopaedic surgery like corrective osteotomy and total or reverse shoulder arthroplasty (TSA/RSA). The aim of our population-based study was to identify factors influencing the glenoid version and to establish reference values from a large-scale population cohort.

In the species groups related to Diphasiastrum multispicatum and D. veitchii, hybridization was investigated in samples from northern and southern Vietnam and the island of Taiwan, including available herbarium specimens from southeast Asia. The accessions were analyzed using flow cytometry (living material only), Sanger sequencing and multiplexed inter-simple sequence repeat genotyping by sequencing.

To more closely resemble the structure of natural skin, multi-layered wound dressings have been developed. Herein, a tri-layer wound dressing was prepared containing a polyacrylamide (PAAm)-Aloe vera (Alo) sponge that had been incorporated with insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) to provide a porous absorbent layer, which was able to promote angiogenesis. Alo nanofibers with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) were electrospun into the bottom layer to increase cell behavior, and a small film of stearic acid was put as a top layer to avoid germy penetration.

Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology has become an advanced approach for fabricating patient-specific scaffolds with complex geometric shapes to replace damaged or diseased tissue. Herein, polylactic acid (PLA)-Baghdadite (Bgh) scaffold were made through the fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing method and subjected to alkaline treatment. Following fabrication, the scaffolds were coated with either chitosan (Cs)-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) or lyophilized Cs-VEGF known as PLA-Bgh/Cs-VEGF and PLA-Bgh/L.

The use of dressings is one of the most common methods for wound treatment. Since most single-layer dressings cannot mimic the hierarchical structure of the skin well, multi-layer dressings have been considered. In this study, a bilayer dressing was fabricated using a gelatin sponge layer cross-linked with sodium tripolyphosphate (Gel-STPP) and a layer of carrageenan nanofibers containing platelet-rich fibrin (Carr-PRF).

Osteoporosis is an important public health challenge. Several medicinal mushrooms are able to improve bone stability by influencing different steps of bone formation, mineralization, or resorption. In nearly all investigations, the effects have been shown in vitro or in animal assays and only very few in clinical studies.

Background: The oral IP receptor agonist selexipag is approved for the long-term treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Treatment interruptions should be avoided due to the progressive nature of the disease. An intravenous (IV) formulation of selexipag was developed to provide a treatment option for short-term interruptions to oral selexipag.

Medicinal mushrooms contain highly valuable substances with proven positive effects on human health. To extract these components, different methods are available. Most of them suffer from individual disadvantages, therefore making them economically unviable.

Several medicinal mushrooms exhibit hypoglycaemic activities in vitro and in animal studies. In contrast to the high number of experimental results, only a few clinical trials and/or case reports have been published. They exist for mushrooms of the genera Agaricus, Coprinus, Ganoderma, Grifola, and Pleurotus.

Background: Streptomyces clavuligerus is prolific producer of cephamycin C, a medically important antibiotic. In our former study, cephamycin C titer was 2-fold improved by disrupting homoserine dehydrogenase (hom) gene of aspartate pahway in Streptomyces clavuligerus NRRL 3585.
Objective: In this article, we aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding at the proteome level on potential complex metabolic changes as a consequence of hom disruption in Streptomyces clavuligerus AK39.

Background and purpose - The neck-shaft angle (NSA) is valuable for diagnostics and therapy of the hip, but current reference values derive mostly from studies on anatomic specimens, small cohorts, or are hospital-based. Moreover, associated factors such as age, sex, or anthropometric data have rarely been considered. Therefore, we determined associated factors for NSA and reassessed the historical reference values in a general adult population.

Spiritual well-being is a major issue in health care, but instruments for measuring this construct in adolescents are lacking. This study adapted the 12-item Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Spiritual Well-being Scale (FACIT-Sp-12) for use with Brazilian adolescents with chronic diseases and developed a parental observer-rated version, using an expert panel, back-translation, and cognitive interviews with 72 participants. The psychometric properties of both versions were verified with two- and three-factor models by testing with 212 participants.

Objectives: Although dental trauma and its unfavorable sequelae are considered major public health problems worldwide, the published data on the prevalence of traumatic crown injuries (TCIs) in Germany are lacking. Therefore, the present study assessed the prevalence of TCIs among adolescents in Bavaria, Germany.
Material And Methods: Ethical approval and parental consents were obtained, and population-based information from 10- (N = 1158), 12- (N = 416), and 15-year-olds (N = 1302) from two different cohort studies performed in Bavaria (GINIplus/LISA and LAGZ) were examined for the presence of TCIs, dental caries, and restorations.

Purpose: To develop a system to estimate the risk of herb-drug interactions that includes the available evidence from clinical and laboratory studies, transparently delineates the algorithm for the risk estimation, could be used in practice settings and allows for adaptation and update.
Methods: We systematically searched Drugbank, Transformer, Drug Information Handbook, European and German Pharmacopoeia and MEDLINE for studies on herb-drug interactions of five common medicinal plants (coneflower, ginseng, milk thistle, mistletoe and St. John's wort).

Developing a mechanistic understanding of the impact of food structure and composition on human health has increasingly involved simulating digestion in the upper gastrointestinal tract. These simulations have used a wide range of different conditions that often have very little physiological relevance, and this impedes the meaningful comparison of results. The standardized protocol presented here is based on an international consensus developed by the COST INFOGEST network.
