Intraperitoneal Injection of Graphene Oxide Nanoparticle Accelerates Stem Cell Therapy Effects on Acute Kidney Injury.

Stem Cells Cloning

February 2020

Department of Nanotechnology, Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran (ABRII), Agricultural Research, Education and Extension Organization (AREEO), Karaj, Iran.

Purpose: Graphene-based nanostructures have shown some degree of stem cell protection against cell death. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a major cause of mortality in hospitalized patients. Here, graphene oxide (GO) was used to improve the efficacy of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the treatment of AKI induced by cisplatin, a chemotherapy medication used to treat a number of cancers.

Article Synopsis
  • About 10% of infertile patients experience repeated implantation failures (RIFs) during IVF treatments, making successful implantation reliant on immune responses.
  • A study with 250 couples tested the effects of cultured peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) on pregnancy outcomes after embryo transfer, revealing a higher clinical pregnancy rate in the PBMC group (34.4%) compared to the control (23.4%), although not statistically significant overall.
  • In patients with three or more RIFs, there was a significant improvement in clinical pregnancy rates for the PBMC group (38.6%) versus the control (19.7%), suggesting PBMC transfer could enhance fertility treatment for these patients.

Aims: Mutations of BRAF oncogene are considered to contribute in the invasiveness and poor clinicopathologic features of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). As a step towards understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms of this contribution, we aimed to examine the association of four microRNAs' (miR-222, -137, -214, -181b) levels with BRAFV600E and clinicopathological features in PTC tissues and fine needle aspiration (FNA) specimens.

Methods: In total, 56 PTC and 27 benign with multinodular goiter tissue samples, 95 FNA samples, and B-CPAP and HEK293 cell lines were examined.

Resveratrol, a phytoalexin polyphenol, has antiproliferative, antiangiogenic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. The present study has assessed the effect of resveratrol treatment on the expression of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) in endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) from women with and without endometriosis. Endometrial tissues were obtained from 40 endometriotic patients and 15 nonendometriotic control women.

Purpose: Vesicourethral anastomosis (VUA) represents a challenging step of open radical prostatectomy (ORP) because of limitation of space in the depth of male pelvis, lack of control on knots during tightening which subse-quently causes inadequate coupling of VUA or breakdown of knots, and also extremely difficult reapplication of sutures. To facilitate this step of ORP, we have developed a simple and reproducible technique and reported our 8-year experience.

Materials And Methods: We used two extra-long DeBakey tissue forceps to approximate the bladder neck to the urethral stump.

Background: The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) expression with BRAF V600E mutation and clinicopathological features, in Iranian papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) patients.

Methods: In total, 90 participants including 60 PTC patients (15 males and 45 females) and 30 individuals with benign multinodular goiter (MNG) (5 males and 25 females) which were confirmed by surgical pathology, were investigated. MMP-9 was evaluated at both mRNA and protein levels, using SYBR-Green Real-Time PCR and enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA), respectively.

Background: Family of colony-stimulating factors (CSF) have an essential role on early cross talk between embryo and uterine endometrium.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of the single dose of Granulocyte-CSF (G-CSF) injection on clinical outcome of assisted reproductive technology cycle in patients with repeated implantation failures.

Materials And Methods: This randomized control trial study was performed on 52 infertile women who referred to the clinic with the history of more than three previous In vitro fertilization/Intracytoplasmic sperm injection-embryo transfer failures.

Objective: The American Diabetes Association and the European Association for the Study of Diabetes guidelines recommend to individualize treatment targets/strategies in inadequately controlled patients by lifestyle management and glucose-lowering drugs to decrease the burden of diabetes-related complications. This real-world practice study aimed to assess predictive factors for achieving the glycemic hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) at 6 months as targeted by the treating physician in adults with type 2 diabetes who required initiation of basal insulin, initiation of bolus insulin, or modification from basal or premixed insulin to new insulin regimen containing insulin glargine and/or insulin glulisine.

Research Design And Methods: This was an international, multicenter, observational survey with 12-month follow-up time in adults with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled conducted in 10 developing countries.

Background: Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is the most common endocrine malignancy. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of tissue inhibitor metalloproteinase-3 (TIMP3) mRNA and protein levels in thyroid tissues, based on BRAF V600E status with the clinicopathologic characteristics of PTC.

Methods: A total of 60 fresh frozen tissue samples of PTC patients (15 male and 45 female) were collected during thyroidectomy.

Background: Gonadotropin therapy was used to stimulate the ovary in infertile women who underwent assisted reproduction treatment (ART). Numerous studies indicated that infertile women showed different responses to gonadotropin therapy. Follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) and Oestrogen receptor (ER) polymorphisms have been reported to involve induction of folliculogenesis and ovarian response to treatment.

Background: Natural endometrium in Frozen-thawed Embryo Transfer (FET) may have some benefits upon implantation in patients with Repeated Implantation Failure (RIF). It might be due to possible differences between natural and stimulated endometrial growth factors and cytokins secretions.

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the pregnancy rate of FET on modified natural cycle versus hormone replacement therapy (HRT) cycle endometrium in patients with RIF.

Background: Investigations using a hybrid single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT-CT) scanning technique have been carried out in limited studies and have shown mixed results. However, the assessment of this technique for the detection of parathyroid adenoma in patients with a nodular goiter was performed in only one study with a small sample size. The aim of this prospective study was to assess the role of 99mTc-sestamibi parathyroid SPECT-CT scans for localization of parathyroid adenomas with a concomitant nodular goiter using 99mTc-methoxyisobutyl isonitrile (MIBI) scintigraphy and to compare it with SPECT and planar imaging.
