Psychiatric Admissions in a Large Hospital in Madrid during COVID-19 Lockdown: Was There a Change in Patient Profile?

COVID-19 led to a reorganization of health care in Madrid. The objective of this study is to describe the sociodemographic and clinical profile of psychiatric patients admitted to Gregorio Marañón Hospital during lockdown.

Stigma and posttraumatic growth among COVID-19 survivors during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

Background: Contracting COVID-19 can cause negative and distressing psychological sequelae, but traumatic stressors may also facilitate the development of positive psychological change beyond an individual's previous level of adaptation, known as posttraumatic growth (PTG). As a result, studies have investigated the negative effects of COVID-19 on mental health, but data on PTG among patients who have recovered from COVID-19 remains limited. This study aims to evaluate the level of PTG and its associations with stigma, psychological complications, and sociodemographic factors among COVID-19 patients 6 months post-hospitalization.

Clozapine Use for Bipolar Disorder: An Asian Psychotropic Prescription Patterns Consortium Study.

Background: Pharmacoepidemiological studies of clozapine use to treat bipolar disorder (BD), especially in Asia, are rare, although they can provide insights into associated clinical characteristics and support international comparisons of indications and drug dosing.

Methods: We examined the prevalence and clinical correlates of clozapine treatment for BD in 13 Asian countries and regions (China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand) within an Asian Prescription Patterns Research Consortium. We compared BD patients treated with clozapine or not in initial bivariate comparisons followed by multivariable logistic regression modeling.

Effect of a group-based acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) intervention on self-esteem and psychological flexibility in patients with schizophrenia in remission.

The present study explored whether acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), a cognitive behavioral therapy approach, could improve the symptoms of schizophrenia spectrum disorders among patients with schizophrenia in remission. A pre- and post-treatment design with two evaluation time points was employed. Sixty outpatients with schizophrenia in remission were randomly divided into two groups: the ACT plus treatment as usual (ACT+TAU) and treatment as usual (TAU) groups.

Examination of the Relationship between Peripheral Inflammation Markers and Impulsivity and Aggression in Schizophrenia Patients Involved and Not Involved in Crime.

Aim: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between peripheral inflammatory markers and aggression and impulsivity in schizophrenia patients with and without criminal histories.

Materials And Methods: The study was conducted with patients with schizophrenia involved in crimes and hospitalized in the Forensic Psychiatry ward of Elazığ Fethi Sekin City Hospital and patients with schizophrenia not involved in crimes and hospitalized in the psychiatry ward of Elazığ Mental Health and Diseases Hospital. All participants completed the Buss-Waren Aggression Scale (BWAS), the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS-11), and the Positive and Negative Symptom Scale (PANSS).

Mothers' Involvement in Pediatric Postoperative Pain Care in a Tertiary Healthcare Setting in Saudi Arabia.

Background Many children feel moderate to intense pain in the hospital following surgery. Untreated pain can have deleterious physical and psychological effects. Mothers' involvement in child pain care and management postoperatively has been shown to be important in improving the outcomes and experiences of children, mothers, and health professionals.

Delusional Infestation: A case of Ekbom syndrome in an elderly woman with a long history of HIV.

A 70-year-old female presented with a long history of HIV and 5 years of disturbing delusions of infestation that impaired her daily functioning. The delusions resolved with haloperidol but were followed by depressive symptoms. The case presents the complexity of managing neuropsychiatric manifestations of HIV/AIDS with comorbidities in old age.

OCT Findings in Patients with Methamphetamine Use Disorder.

Purpose: In the present study, the purpose was to examine the results of optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements in patients diagnosed with methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) by comparing them with healthy controls.

Materials And Methods: A total of 114 eyes were evaluated in this study (27 patients and 30 control group participants). After detailed biomicroscopic examinations of all participants by the same ophthalmologist, both eyes were evaluated by OCT.

Habitual sleep and intraindividual variability of sleep in gifted children: an actigraphy study.

Study Objectives: Giftedness is a multidimensional condition. It is increasingly put forward that gifted children (GC) could be a population at high risk for sleep problems. The current study investigated GC and typically developing children for their habitual sleep, night-to-night sleep variability, and parental reports of child sleep.

Parental Recreational Screen Media Practices and Behavioral Difficulties Among Danish 7-Year-Old Children.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the association of parental recreational screen media practices, including time use and level of smartphone addiction, with behavioral difficulties in 7-year-old children.

Methods: The study was based on cross-sectional data from the Odense Child Cohort, a community-based birth-cohort study. A total of 1152 parent-child dyads with complete data were included based on data from the 7-year examination conducted in 2018-21.

The relationship between executive functions and chronotype in healthy siblings of children with autism spectrum disorder.

The aim of this study is to examine executive functions in healthy siblings of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and to evaluate the relationship between chronotype and executive functions (EF). This study included 40 healthy siblings (case group) of children with ASD and 40 healthy controls. Executive functions were evaluated by Stroop Test, Serial Digit Learning Test (SDLT) and Cancellation Test (CT).

Association between sleep and problematic behaviours in gifted children: a polysomnographic study.

Neurological uniqueness, maladaptive behaviours, as well as atypical sleep patterns are reported to be defining characteristics of giftedness, but this has received little empirical support. We studied the polysomnography recorded sleep of gifted and typically-developing children together with features of maladaptive behaviours. The association of sleep macrostructure and sleep instability with maladaptive behaviours was also investigated in gifted children.

An Exploration of Smoking Patterns Among People with Serious Mental Illness Attending an Outpatient Clinic in Qatar.

Background: Studies have shown that tobacco use is exceptionally high in people affected with serious mental illness (SMI). Many countries worldwide have observed a decrease in the prevalence of tobacco smoking; however, the smoking rates among people with SMI have declined much less than in those without mental illness. To date, no nationally representative data have examined the smoking patterns or the sociocultural factors that influence smoking among SMI people in Qatar.

Barriers and Facilitators of Working with Dying Patients among Novice Nurses in Saudi Arabia.

Novice nurses face immense challenges while they transition from being students to becoming professional nurses. Dealing with dying patients has been documented to be an immense task among professional nurses, especially for new nurses. This study aimed to explore the barriers and facilitators of working with dying patients, experienced by novice nurses in Saudi Arabia.

Association between neuropeptide Y gene polymorphism and antipsychotics effect.

Objective: The pathogenesis of schizophrenia is associated with neuropeptide Y (NPY) gene polymorphism to explore the relationship between rs16141, rs16145, and rs5573 polymorphisms in the NPY gene and antipsychotics response in the Chinese population.

Methods: The unrelated 228 Chinese Han patients with schizophrenia were enrolled in the present study. Genotypisation within NPY gene was performed using the KASP genotyping assays.

A retrospective analysis of substance use among female psychiatric patients in Saudi Arabia.

Objective: This study investigated the prevalence of substance use (SU), and its risk factors, among women attending psychiatric outpatients center in Saudi Arabia.

Design: A retrospective cross-sectional design.

Materials And Methods: We reviewed outpatients' records of 200 female patients with a history of SU from a psychiatric unit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia from December 2018 to February 2019.

Background: Early identification of patients at high risk of poor clinical outcomes is the key to success in saving the lives of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) is an easily available and cheap surrogate inflammatory marker, its baseline NLR role in African COVID-19 patients remains to be investigated. The objective of the study aimed to evaluate the role of NLR as a predictor of severity and mortality of COVID-19 patients admitted at the Millennium COVID 19 care center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Increased ghrelin and decreased leptin levels in patients with antisocial personality disorder.

Objective: The study aimed to compare acyl ghrelin (AG), des-acyl ghrelin (DAG), and leptin levels considered to be used as biological markers in the etiopathogenesis of antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) with healthy controls, and to investigate the relationship between these hormones and aggression and impulsivity.

Method: The study included 45 patients with ASPD and 61 healthy people in the control group. Sociodemographic data form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11), and Buss-Durkee Aggression Scale (BDAS) were applied to all participants.

Background: Solid organ rejection post-SARS-CoV-2 vaccination or COVID-19 infection is extremely rare but can occur. T-cell recognition of antigen is the primary and central event that leads to the cascade of events that result in rejection of a transplanted organ.

Objectives: To describe the results of a systematic review for solid organ rejections following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination or COVID-19 infection.

Personal agency and borderline personality disorder: a longitudinal study of outcomes.

Background: Low personal agency is the concept of attributing successes and failures to external factors rather than personal characteristics. Previous research supported links between low personal agency and symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD). The present research followed patients in an outpatient dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT) group from intake to 12 months follow up to examine the impact of personal agency on outcome.
