[Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis mimicking carcinoma of gallbladder].

Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis is an uncommon variant of chronic cholecystitis. Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis may best be regarded as a tumor-like condition and should be included in the differential diagnosis of gallbladder carcinoma. We present a case of xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis which mimicked carcinoma of gallbladder.

[MRI findings of orbital hemangiomas].

Purpose: To evaluate the MR imaging findings of orbital hemangiomas in pediatric and adult groups.

Materials And Methods: MR imaging findings of seven orbital hemangiomas were reviewed. All patients had axial and coronal T1 and T2 weighted images.

[Multicystic encephalomalacia: MR imaging findings and clinical correlation].

Purpose: To review the MR imaging findings of multicystic encephalomalacia and to investigate the correlation between MR imaging and clinical findings.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-one patients who presented with convulsion, mental-motor retardation and microcephaly and had evidence of multicystic encephalomalacia on MR images were included in this study. MR imaging patterns and clinical findings were reviewed.

[Spontaneous regression of basal ganglia lesions in a case of neurofibromatosis type 1 (case report)].

Neurofibromatosis type 1 is characterized on magnetic resonance imaging by optic nerve gliomas, parenchymal gliomas, and foci of prolonged T2 relaxation involving the brainstem, cerebellum, midbrain, internal capsule, and basal ganglia. We report a child with neurofibromatosis type 1 in whom serial magnetic resonance imaging demonstrates spontaneous regression of basal ganglia lesions. These lesions, characterized on magnetic resonance imaging by increased signal intensity on T1- and T2-weighted sequences, involved the globus pallidus and internal capsules in a bilateral fashion.

[Cranial MR imaging findings of carbon monoxide poisoning in asymptomatic patients in the chronic stage].

Purpose: To describe MR imaging findings of the chronic stage of carbon monoxide poisoning in asymptomatic patients.

Materials And Methods: Clinical data of 34 patients, who had been admitted to our hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning were reviewed and invited for control evaluation. Of the patients who accepted, ten who had no symptoms and neurological sequelae in the physical examination were included in the study.

[Case report: Acute abdomen and pelvic mass due to torsion of a wandering spleen].

Torsioned wandering spleen should be considered in patients who have an intrapelvic mass with acute abdominal symptoms. Nowadays, color Doppler US and CT are easily achievable and are highly accurate for indicating the correct diagnosing in such patients. Using these two modalities together will increase the ability for correct diagnosis.

[Case report: Inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver with target-like appearance].

Inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver, which is rarely seen, can mimic abscesses, metastases, peripheral cholangiocarcinomas and hepatocellular carcinomas. While it has no specific clinical and laboratory findings, detection of a "target-like appearance" in triphasic CT and MRI examination may be differentiated from other liver pathologies. In this report, triphasic CT and MRI findings of an inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver were presented.

[Detectability of intraperitoneal free air by ultrasonography].

Purpose: We evaluated the role of ultrasonography in the detection of pneumoperitoneum.

Materials And Methods: Eleven patients who had been diagnosed as acute abdomen and pneumoperitoneum were evaluated by ultrasonography and direct radiographies. An additional ultrasonographic feature named "scissoring technique" was also evaluated.

[Surgical alternatives in complex pancreatic injuries].

Background: Objective of this study is to analyze the treatment outcomes of patients undergoing surgery for complex pancreatic injuries in our center over a 20-year period.

Methods: Between January 1980 and December 2001, medical records of 11 patients who underwent surgical intervention for complex pancreatic trauma were investigated retrospectively.

Results: The study group consisted of nine males and two female patients with a mean age of 36 years.

Tetanus antitoxin levels among adults over 40 years of age in Central Anatolia, Turkey.

Methods: This study was conducted on 249 adults over 40 years of age who applied to a blood-withdrawal unit in Kayseri, Central Anatolia. Tetanus toxoid-specific antibodies were measured in serum by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
