Immunohistochemistry of somatostatin receptor subtype 2 (SSTR2) can predict response to first-generation somatostatin receptor ligands (fg-SRLs) in acromegaly. Recently, we validated an open-source digital image analysis (DIA) to quantify SSTR2 expression. We aimed to validate the DIA also on SSTR5 in a new cohort of GH-secreting pituitary tumors, with immunohistochemistry performed in a different laboratory, and to correlate fg-SRL response with SSTs expression.

The development of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) has been highly successful in recent decades. It is now widely accepted that early initiation of DMTs after disease onset is associated with a better long-term prognosis. However, the question of when and how to de-escalate or discontinue DMTs remains open and critical.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects more than 10% of the global population. As kidney function negatively correlates with the presence of interstitial fibrosis, the development of new anti-fibrotic therapies holds promise to stabilize functional decline in CKD patients. The goal of the study was to generate a scalable bioprinted 3-dimensional kidney tubulo-interstitial disease model of kidney fibrosis.

Introduction: Children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) need surgery whenever medical therapy fails. The postoperative course is frequently accompanied by symptoms suggestive of infection, such as fever. The aim of our study was to analyze the postoperative course after bowel resection in pediatric IBD patients in relation to postoperative infections.

Background: The maintenance of a healthy lifestyle significantly influences pregnancy outcomes. Certain pregnant women are more at risk of engaging in unhealthy behaviors due to factors such as having a low socioeconomic position and low social capital. eHealth interventions tailored to pregnant women affected by these vulnerability factors can provide support and motivation for healthier choices.

Background And Study Aim: Local resection of early rectal cancer is being increasingly used. With invasion of the muscularis propria layer of the rectal wall, the risk of lymph node metastasis becomes too high to consider this the optimal oncological treatment. Therefore, a diagnosis of muscular invasion is important before attempting local resection; however, endoscopic and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images have limitations, such as overstaging (26-31%).

Neuronal activity in the highly organized networks of the central nervous system is the vital basis for various functional processes, such as perception, motor control, and cognition. Understanding interneuronal connectivity and how activity is regulated in the neuronal circuits is crucial for interpreting how the brain works. Multi-electrode arrays (MEAs) are particularly useful for studying the dynamics of neuronal network activity and their development as they allow for real-time, high-throughput measurements of neural activity.

Background: Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) and target concentration intervention (TCI) represent significant advancements in individualized medicine, aiming to tailor dosages based on patient-specific characteristics. These approaches account for intra- and inter-individual physiological and clinical variability, with the goal of improving target attainment and clinical remission while reducing treatment failure and adverse effects.
Objectives: The objective is to assess and enhance the current body of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that have investigated alternative personalized dosing strategies, such as TDM and TCI, in terms of their efficacy and safety for individualized antimicrobial dosing in pediatric populations.

Background And Objective: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is increasingly used for primary staging in prostate cancer. Owing to accurate detection of small metastases on PSMA-PET/CT, patient selection for robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) has likely changed. This study analyzes oncological outcomes in patients undergoing RARP and extended pelvic lymph node dissection (ePLND) after PSMA-PET/CT staging, compared with those without PSMA-PET/CT.

Background: Early-onset fetal growth restriction as consequence of placental insufficiency frequently requires iatrogenic, preterm birth. Administration of antenatal corticosteroids reduces risks of neonatal morbidity and mortality following preterm birth and is most beneficial if the neonate is delivered within two weeks following treatment. International guidelines on fetal growth restriction pregnancies do not provide directives regarding the timing of antenatal corticosteroids, resulting in practice variation.

The deterioration in health and functionality in older ages, in addition to biological changes, is affected by physical changes. Therefore, early retirement may become an inevitable choice. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between limitations in daily living activities, mobility, and other health factors with early retirement in workers aged 50-67 in the 4th wave of the SHARE study in Europe.

Background: Awake craniotomy (AC) is a technique that balances maximum resection and minimal postoperative deficits in patients with intracranial tumors. To aid in the comparability of functional outcomes after awake surgery, this study investigated its international practice and aimed to define categories of postoperative deficits.
Methods: A survey was distributed via neurosurgical networks in Europe (European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, EANS), the Netherlands (Nederlandse Vereniging voor Neurochirurgie, NVVN), Belgium (Belgian Society of Neurosurgery, BSN), and the United States (Congress of Neurological Surgeons, CNS) between April 2022 and April 2023.
