Background: Fibroblast activation protein (FAP) is an attractive target for cancer theranostics. Although FAP-targeted nuclear imaging demonstrated promising clinical results, only sub-optimal results are reported for targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT). Preclinical research is crucial in selecting promising FAP-targeted radiopharmaceuticals and for obtaining an increased understanding of factors essential for FAP-TRT improvement.

Background: Fully digital preoperative information could save valuable time and resources. However, compared with face to face consultations, equivalent levels of safety, patient satisfaction and participation need to be maintained when using other methods to inform patients. This trial compared knowledge retention between preoperative stand-alone video education and face-to-face education by an anaesthesiologist.

This paper explains the coexistence of concerns about hereditary degeneration and opposition to reproductive intervention such as sterilisation in Dutch eugenic discourse during the interwar years. Based on an analysis of textbooks, periodical publications and printed lectures, I will show how eugenicists positioned themselves within the domain of public health by framing their domain of inquiry as a pivotal addition to curative medicine and sanitary reform. Dutch eugenicists rendered this symbiotic relationship conceptually plausible by combining criticism of genetic determinism and Lamarckian viewpoints on heredity.

Purpose: To evaluate dosimetry, dose-response and dose-toxicity relationships for holmium-166 (Ho) radioembolisation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: Thirty-one patients with hepatocellular carcinoma were included in the HEPAR Primary study (NCT03379844, registered on December 20th, 2017) and underwent Ho-microspheres radioembolisation. Linear mixed models assessed the association between tumour absorbed doses and response based on mRECIST both on tumour and patient level.

Transfer of learning occurs when past learning is applied to new situations, and also at a varying time from the initial time of learning. Importantly, research in both academic and clinical areas of health professions education has highlighted that transfer of learning often does not successfully occur. Successful transfer is multi-dimensional and occurs when the learner has the required motivation, mental model, metacognitive processes relevant to the task, and the opportunity to transfer their learning to different situations.

Background: In simulation-based education, the effectiveness of observation or active participation on the retention of knowledge and skills is uncertain. The aim of the study was to investigate knowledge retention, technical and non-technical skills and self-efficacy among observers and active participants in a simulated palliative extubation.
Method: We included medical and nursing undergraduates and residents.
Therapies for inoperable chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) include balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA) and PH-specific medical therapy. This study compares survival and its predictors before and after the introduction of BPA. BPA was independently associated with survival; however, there was no difference in overall survival between the two cohorts.

Most neuromuscular disorders are rare, but as a group they are not. Nevertheless, epidemiological data of specific neuromuscular disorders are scarce, especially on the incidence. We applied a capture-recapture approach to a nationwide hospital-based dataset and a patients association-based dataset to estimate the annual incidence rates for fifteen neuromuscular disorders in the Netherlands.

Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) targeted tracers show increased uptake in several malignancies, indicating a potential for peptide radioligand therapy. Intra-arterial injection of radiotracers can increase the therapeutic window. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of intra-arterial injection of [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma and compare tracer uptake after intrahepatic arterial injection and intravenous injection.

The transition from in-person to digital preoperative patient education requires effective methods for evaluating patients' understanding of the perioperative process, risks, and instructions to ensure informed consent. A knowledge questionnaire covering different anaesthesia techniques and instructions could fulfil this need. We constructed a set of items covering common anaesthesia techniques requiring informed consent and developed the Rotterdam Anaesthesia Knowledge Questionnaire (RAKQ) using a structured approach and Item Response Theory.

Radiographic assessment plays a crucial role in the management of patients with central nervous system (CNS) tumors, aiding in treatment planning and evaluation of therapeutic efficacy by quantifying response. Recently, an updated version of the Response Assessment in Neuro-Oncology (RANO) criteria (RANO 2.0) was developed to improve upon prior criteria and provide an updated, standardized framework for assessing treatment response in clinical trials for gliomas in adults.

Hemocompatibility-related adverse events (HRAEs), particularly gastrointestinal bleeding, remain a frequent complication after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. The current study sought to describe and analyze whether early (<60 days) postoperative von Willebrand factor (VWF) activity assays predict the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and stroke. A prospective single-center study including 74 HeartMate 3 device recipients between 2016 and 2023 was undertaken.

Background: Establishing collaborations between cohort studies has been fundamental for progress in health research. However, such collaborations are hampered by heterogeneous data representations across cohorts and legal constraints to data sharing. The first arises from a lack of consensus in standards of data collection and representation across cohort studies and is usually tackled by applying data harmonization processes.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, global trends of reduced healthcare-seeking behaviour were observed. This raises concerns about the consequences of healthcare avoidance for population health.
Aim: To determine the association between healthcare avoidance during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and all-cause mortality.

Background: Many gastric cancer patients in Western countries are diagnosed as metastatic with a median overall survival of less than twelve months using standard chemotherapy. Innovative treatments, like targeted therapy or immunotherapy, have recently proved to ameliorate prognosis, but a general agreement on managing oligometastatic disease has yet to be achieved. An international multi-disciplinary workshop was held in Bertinoro, Italy, in November 2022 to verify whether achieving a consensus on at least some topics was possible.

Intersectional social determinants including ethnicity are vital in health research. We curated a population-wide data resource of self-identified ethnicity data from over 60 million individuals in England primary care, linking it to hospital records. We assessed ethnicity data in terms of completeness, consistency, and granularity and found one in ten individuals do not have ethnicity information recorded in primary care.

The term "ketogenic diet" (KD) is used for a wide variety of diets with diverse indications ranging from obesity to neurological diseases, as if it was the same diet. This terminology is confusing for patients and the medical and scientific community. The term "ketogenic" diet implies a dietary regimen characterized by increased levels of circulating ketone bodies that should be measured in blood (beta-hydroxybutyrate), urine (acetoacetate) or breath (acetone) to verify the "ketogenic metabolic condition".
