The development of a tool for GPs to manage overweight and obesity in children: A Delphi study.

Background: General practitioners (GPs) could play an important role in the management of overweight and obesity in children. However, GPs experience different barriers and are in need of supportive tools. In order to support GPs to identify, address and refer these children, new tools should be developed.

Background: Overweight and obesity in children is a major health problem. General practice might be a promising setting for identifying and for the first steps in the management of overweight and obesity in children.

Objective: To explore opinions, needs and preferences about the role of general practice in the management of overweight and obesity in children from the perspectives of Dutch general practitioners (GPs), practice nurses (PNs) and parents of children with and without overweight.

Prognostic factors and the value of radiographic osteoarthritis for persistent complaints after referral for ankle radiography.

Background: Ankle symptoms are a common reason to consult the general practitioner and often persist for years. In a population referred for ankle radiography, the prevalence of radiographic osteoarthritis (OA) is substantial, but its additional predictive value for persistent symptoms is unknown. Therefore, we examined the prognosis of symptoms 2-3 years after referral for ankle radiography, assessed clinical prognostic factors, and the additional predictive value of radiographic OA for persistent ankle complaints.

The OA Trial Bank: Update of individual patient data meta-analysis of intra-articular glucocorticoids in persons with knee and hip osteoarthritis.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of intra--articular (IA) glucocorticoid for knee or hip osteoarthritis (OA) in specific subgroups of patients according to the baseline severity of pain and inflammatory signs using individual patient data (IPD) from existing trials. Furthermore, this study aims to assess if a baseline pain cut-off was associated with clinically important effectiveness of IA glucocorticoid. This is an update of an IA glucocorticoid IPD meta-analysis by the OA Trial Bank.

Prevalence of radiographic ankle osteoarthritis in different subgroups of patients referred for ankle radiography.

Background: Ankle osteoarthritis(OA) has detrimental effects on physical health and has a relatively early disease onset compared to OA in other joints. However, the prevalence of radiographic ankle OA in different subgroups of patients referred for ankle radiography remains unknown. Therefore, we aimed to determine the prevalence of radiographic talocrural, subtalar and talonavicular OA(Kellgren-Lawrence scale ≥2) in a population referred for ankle radiography.

Physical activity, sports participation and exercise-related constraints in adult women with primary hypothyroidism treated with thyroid hormone replacement therapy.

Awareness of physical activity (PA) constraints in patients with primary hypothyroidism on thyroid hormone replacement therapy (THR) is important. Hence, this cross-sectional matched case-control study aimed to determine PA and sports participation (SP) in patients with hypothyroidism on THR in comparison to control subjects. Accordingly, survey questions were selected from the National Survey on Injuries and Physical Activity in the Netherlands (IPAN), supplemented with questions related to self-reported clinical characteristics and exercise-related constraints (ERC) of patients.

Voice Characteristics in Patients with Acromegaly during Treatment.

Background: Active acromegaly is characterized by Growth Hormone and Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF)-1 excess. Voice complaints are common in active acromegaly and are suggested to be caused by effects of Growth Hormone or IGF-1 on vocal folds and the surrounding soft tissues. Prospective studies on the course of voice characteristics in acromegaly patients are scarce and results are conflicting.

Dynamic balance and ankle injury odds: a prospective study in 196 Dutch physical education teacher education students.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether dynamic balance, measured with the anterior component of the Star Excursion Balance Test (SEBT-ANT), is a risk factor for ankle injuries in physical education teacher education (PETE) students.

Design And Setting: A prospective monocentre study in first-year PETE students.

Participants: A total of 196 subjects, of which 137 men (70%) and 59 women (30%).

Background: Patellofemoral malalignment has been observed among people with patellofemoral pain (PFP) and may be associated with the presence of imaging features of osteoarthritis, symptoms, and function.

Purpose: To determine whether patellofemoral joint alignment and bony shape are associated with (1) cartilage, bone, and soft tissue morphological abnormalities defined on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and (2) reported symptoms and function among people with PFP.

Relative efficacy of topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and topical capsaicin in osteoarthritis: protocol for an individual patient data meta-analysis.

Background: Pain is the most troubling issue to patients with osteoarthritis (OA), yet current pharmacological treatments offer only small-to-moderate pain reduction. Current guidelines therefore emphasise the need to identify predictors of treatment response. In line with these recommendations, an individual patient data (IPD) meta-analysis will be conducted.
