Introduction: The present study was done to determine the size of the sella turcica in different skeletal type subjects and to evaluate if any significant difference exists between them, which could be the basis for early diagnosis.

Materials And Methods: A total of 60 lateral cephalograms of patients above 15 years of age were selected and distributed according to skeletal malocclusion into class I ( = 20), class II ( = 20), and 20 class III ( = 20). Syndromic patients (physically/mentally/both) or patients with major illnesses were not included.

Background And Purpose: Automated methods for quantifying brain tissue volumes have gained clinical interest for their objective assessment of neurological diseases. This study aimed to establish reference curves for brain volumes and fractions in the Indian population using Synthetic MRI (SyMRI), a quantitative imaging technique providing multiple contrast-weighted images through fast postprocessing.

Methods: The study included a cohort of 314 healthy individuals aged 15-65 years from multiple hospitals/centers across India.

Lectins are non-immunological carbohydrate-binding proteins classified on the basis of their structure, origin, and sugar specificity. The binding specificity of such proteins with the surface glycan moiety determines their activity and clinical applications. Thus, lectins hold great potential as diagnostic and drug discovery agents and as novel biopharmaceutical products.

Atherosclerosis as a chronic inflammatory disorder is accompanied with oxidative stress which causes a high morbidity and mortality. Adhesion molecules, including intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), P-selectin, and E-selectin, are amongst the most important contributors in atherosclerosis. In such cases, dietary interventions with functional foods containing natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory constituents are of a great interest.

Article Synopsis
  • - Combinational treatment, using chrysin and luteolin with traditional drugs like cisplatin and topotecan, has shown potential for improving cancer treatment effectiveness despite common side effects such as drug resistance.
  • - The study found that chrysin combined with cisplatin and luteolin combined with cisplatin produced synergistic effects, enhancing anticancer activity, while combinations with topotecan demonstrated negative or antagonistic interactions.
  • - Increased levels of pro-apoptotic proteins and inhibition of anti-apoptotic proteins were linked to the successful combinations, suggesting these interactions can promote cancer cell apoptosis and reduce cell migration, highlighting the need for further investigation into drug combinations to optimize cancer therapy.

Objectives: The poor prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is vastly due to late diagnosis. The oral submucosal fibrosis (OSMF) is often unnoticed pathology linked with high risk of malignancy. Recently, we demonstrated that the clinicopathological alterations in OSMF and OSCC patients were correlated with cancer stem cell (CSCs) markers (CD133 and CD44).

Introducing Birth Companion in Labour: A Quality Improvement Initiative.

J Obstet Gynaecol India

October 2023

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, AIIMS, New Delhi, India.

Background: Birth companion (BC) has been globally recognised as an essential component of childbirth care. As our institution did not allow BC in labour, this study was planned as a quality improvement (QI) project to introduce the concept. We aimed to achieve birth companionship from existing 0 to 100% over a period of six months.

Aims: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is chronic inflammatory disorder mainly affects the lining of articular cartilage of synovial joints characterized by severe inflammation and joint damage. The expression of proteolytic enzymes like MMP-2 and Neutrophil Elastase (NE) worsens the RA condition. To address this concern, we have synthesized dual enzyme targeted chlorotoxin conjugated nanomicelles loaded with sivelestat as broad spectrum treatment for RA.

Background: Recently, chronic lung diseases have been found to be associated with marked inflammation and oxidative stress, which leads to fibrosis in the lungs and chronic respiratory failure. This study aims to determine if hydrogen-rich water (HRW) can enhance oxygen saturation among patients with chronic lung diseases.

Methods: Ten patients with chronic lung diseases due to COPD ( = 7), bronchial asthma ( = 2), and tuberculosis of the lung ( = 1) with oxygen saturation of 90-95% were provided high-concentration (>5 mM) HRW using H-producing tablets for 4 weeks.

Electronic address:

Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) display both peripheral tissue and brain insulin resistance, the later could be a potential risk factor for cognitive dysfunction. While certain degree of inflammation is required for inducing insulin resistance, underlying mechanism(s) remains unclear. Evidence from diverse research domains suggest that elevated intracellular fatty acids of de novo pathway can induce insulin resistance even without triggering inflammation; however, the effect of saturated fatty acids (SFAs) could be detrimental due the development of proinflammatory cues.
