Background: The 1-year cumulative incidence of AKI reportedly is high (52%) in pediatric neoplastic disorders. About half of these events occur within 2 weeks. However, subclinical AKI episodes may remain unrecognized by the conventional creatinine-based approaches.

Objective: There are numerous studies reporting a disproportionally high prevalence of thrombophilia in women with a history of recurrent miscarriage (RM), which has led to overdiagnosis and treatment without an improvement in clinical outcomes. The objective of our study was to assess the prevalence of inherited and acquired thrombophilia in a large cohort of women with a history of early RM using internationally agreed diagnostic criteria and inclusion parameters and compare it to the meta-analysis results of existing literature.
Methods: DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study and systematic review of literature.

Background: Hemodialysis patients are at high risk of Covid-19, though vaccination has significant efficacy in preventing and reducing the severity of infection. Little information is available on disease severity and vaccine efficacy since the dissemination of the Omicron variant.
Methods: In a multi-center study, during a period of the epidemic driven by the Omicron variant, all hemodialysis patients positive for SARS-CoV-2 were identified.

Evidence suggests that pain is highly prevalent among patients with traumatic injuries who attend emergency departments (EDs), yet accurate assessment and management of patients with acute pain can be challenging in this setting. Effective and rapid pain management is beneficial for patients and can support timely discharge from the ED, which is particularly important in the context of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This article describes a service development project that introduced the use of a patient-administered analgesic, methoxyflurane, for patients with traumatic injuries with moderate to severe pain in one ED.

Aim: This review aimed to evaluate the quality of medicalinformation online for patients relating to vulvodynia. To our knowledge no evaluation of online patient information exists regarding vulvodynia and, at present, there is no standardized or validated method of evaluating medical information on the internet.
Methods: A clearly defined protocol was developed to generate keywords relating to vulvodynia.

Background And Objectives: Patients receiving hemodialysis are at high risk from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and demonstrate impaired immune responses to vaccines. There have been several descriptions of their immunologic responses to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccination, but few studies have described the clinical efficacy of vaccination in patients on hemodialysis.
Design, Setting, Participants, & Measurements: In a multicenter observational study of the London hemodialysis population undergoing surveillance PCR testing during the period of vaccine rollout with BNT162b2 and AZD1222, all of those positive for SARS-CoV-2 were identified.

Background: The last few years have witnessed a growing concern with the well-being of healthcare professionals internationally because of increasing recognition of its impact on patient outcomes and staff retention. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has placed additional and substantial pressure on frontline healthcare professionals, gives added urgency to the topic. While numerous, and successful, interventions have been developed to address compromised well-being among healthcare professionals, they have not always been able to support the needs of frontline staff, specifically those working in high-pressure environments.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a very common long-term condition and powerful risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Low-dose aspirin is of proven benefit in the secondary prevention of myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke in people with pre-existing CVD. However, in people without CVD, the rates of MI and stroke are much lower, and the benefits of aspirin in the primary prevention of CVD are largely balanced by an increased risk of bleeding.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of a previous pregnancy and delivery on perineal trauma rates in the subsequent vaginal birth.
Methods: Retrospective cohort study. The perineal outcomes of secundiparous women with history of previous (first) delivery in one of three categories: failed operative vaginal delivery (FOVD) and second-stage emergency cesarean section (EmCS); elective cesarean section (ElCS), and vaginal delivery (VD) with intact perineum, were compared with a control primiparous group.
Background: The Baveno VI consensus identifies patients with compensated advanced chronic liver disease (cACLD) who can safely avoid screening endoscopy. However, concordance in clinical practice with this guidance is unknown. We audited clinical practice and the provision of transient elastography (TE) aiming to identify potential cost savings and benefits.

The current electronic laboratory order set at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust for suspected pre-eclampsia includes a full blood count, urea and electrolytes, liver function, gamma-glutamyltransferase and uric acid. Local and national guidelines do not recommend the use of gamma-glutamyltransferase or uric acid for the investigation or monitoring of pre-eclampsia, as they are poor predictors of maternal and neonatal outcomes. We aimed to remove the automatic inclusion of gamma-glutamyltransferase and uric acid from the electronic laboratory order set for suspected pre-eclampsia.

Vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis (VITT) is a rare but life-threatening complication of primarily adenoviral-based vaccines associated with the presence of antibodies to a PF4/polyanion neoepitope and measured by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Presented are serial anti-PF4/polyanion antibody, platelet, and D-dimer measurements in a large cohort of patients and their relation to relapse.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The mesh controversy has highlighted the need for robust evidence of treatment safety and efficacy, particularly in the surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Current trials demonstrate heterogeneity in outcomes reported as well as outcome measures used, restricting the ability to synthesize data and produce robust research evidence (Doumouchtsis et al. 5).

Oxytocin is hypothesized to promote social interactions by enhancing the salience of social stimuli. While previous neuroimaging studies have reported that oxytocin enhances amygdala activation to face stimuli in autistic men, effects in autistic women remain unclear. In this study, the influence of intranasal oxytocin on activation and functional connectivity of the basolateral amygdala-the brain's 'salience detector'-while processing emotional faces vs shapes was tested in 16 autistic and 21 non-autistic women by functional magnetic resonance imaging in a placebo-controlled, within-subject, cross-over design.

Osteoplasty is a minimally invasive imaging-guided intervention providing mechanical stabilization, bone consolidation and pain relief in oncologic patients presenting with non-osteoblastic bone metastases or with insufficiency fractures. The intervention relies on the injection of an acrylic substance (ie, polymethylmethacrylate; PMMA) into the target bone. PMMA is very resistant to axial compressive loads but much less to bending, torsional and shearing stresses.

Desmoid tumours (DT) are rare locally infiltrative soft-tissue tumours which do not metastasise. DT arise sporadically or are associated with familial syndromes, with different clinical and genetic patterns. In recent years there has been an increasing therapeutic role of cryoablation for the treatment of sporadic DT.

is an important pathogenic bacterium commonly associated with human healthcare and community-acquired infections. In recent years, has become a significant threat to global public and veterinary health, because of its high rates of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Early diagnosis of infection and detection of any associated AMR would help to accelerate directed therapy and reduce the risk of the emergence of multidrug-resistant isolates.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical utility of selective magnetic resonance neurography-(MRN)-guided anterior femoral cutaneous nerve (AFCN) blocks for diagnosing anterior thigh neuralgia.
Materials And Methods: Following institutional review board approval and informed consent, participants with intractable anterior thigh pain and clinically suspected AFCN neuralgia were included. AFCN blocks were performed under MRN guidance using an anterior groin approach along the medial sartorius muscle margin.
