Background: The rate of premature births in France is 6% and is increasing, as is the rate of extremely premature births. Morbidity and mortality rates in this population remain high despite significant medical progress. We aimed to evaluate the morbidity and mortality rate in preterm neonates weighing<750g and to evaluate their outcome at 2 years' corrected age (CA).

Planned vaginal delivery in twin pregnancies has three potential outcomes: vaginal or cesarean delivery of both twins, or cesarean for the second twin. Our objective was to assess the association between delivery mode and severe acute maternal morbidity (SAMM) in women with twin pregnancies and planned vaginal deliveries. We limited this planned secondary analysis of the JUMODA cohort, a national prospective population-based study of twin deliveries, to women with planned vaginal delivery at or after 24 weeks of gestation who gave birth to two live fetuses at hospital.

Purpose: To compare the effectiveness of cervical ripening by a mechanical method (double-balloon catheter) and a pharmacological method (prostaglandins) in women with one previous cesarean delivery, an unfavorable cervix (Bishop score < 6), and a singleton fetus in cephalic presentation.

Methods: This retrospective study, reviewing the relevant records for the years 2013 through 2017, took place in two French university hospital maternity units. This study included women with one previous cesarean delivery, a liveborn singleton fetus in cephalic presentation, and intact membranes, for whom cervical ripening, with unfavorable cervix (Bishop score < 6) was indicated for medical reasons.

Objective: To determine risk factors of severe acute maternal morbidity in women with twin pregnancies and identify subgroups at high risk.

Methods: In a prospective, population-based study of twin deliveries, the JUMODA cohort, all women with twin pregnancies at or after 22 weeks of gestation were recruited in 176 French hospitals. Severe acute maternal morbidity was a composite criterion.

Compared to other front-of-pack nutrition labels, the Nutri-Score emerged as the most efficient to inform Swiss consumers on the nutritional quality of food products.

PLoS One

April 2020

Nutritional Epidemiology Research Team (EREN), Sorbonne Paris Cité Epidemiology and Statistics Research Center (CRESS), U1153 Inserm, U1125, Inra, Cnam, Paris 13 University, Bobigny, France.

Background: Switzerland, like other high-income countries, is facing a major public health challenge with the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases. Discussions are currently on-going in Switzerland regarding the implementation of a Front-of-Pack nutrition label (FoPL) as a public health measure to guide consumers towards healthier food choices, and the Nutri-Score represents an alternative supported by multiple actors. To date, no studies have investigated the performance of the Nutri-Score among Swiss consumers.

Heterogeneity of interindividual and intraindividual responses to interventions is often observed in randomized, controlled trials for obesity. To address the global epidemic of obesity and move toward more personalized treatment regimens, the global research community must come together to identify factors that may drive these heterogeneous responses to interventions. This project, called OBEDIS (OBEsity Diverse Interventions Sharing - focusing on dietary and other interventions), provides a set of European guidelines for a minimal set of variables to include in future clinical trials on obesity, regardless of the specific endpoints.

Purpose: Dietary intakes are reflected in plasma by the presence of hundreds of exogenous metabolites and variations in endogenous metabolites. The exploration of diet-related plasma metabolic profiles could help to better understand the impact of overall diet on health. Our aim was to identify metabolomic signatures reflecting overall diet in women from the French general population.

Université de Paris, Epidemiology and Statistics Research Center/CRESS, INSERM (U1153 - Obstetrical, Perinatal and Pediatric Epidemiology Research Team (EPOPé)), INRA, Hôpital Tenon, Bâtiment Recherche, Rue de la Chine, Paris, 75020, France.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigated the impact of perinatal decision-making on outcomes for babies born at 27-28 weeks' gestational age, focusing on variations in care intensity across different hospitals.
  • Out of 747 fetuses, 84.7% survived to age two, showing no significant differences in survival or morbidity-free survival rates among hospitals with varying levels of perinatal care intensity.
  • Results indicated that neither survival rates nor occurrences of sensorimotor disabilities varied significantly between high, medium, and low-intensity care units, suggesting consistency in outcomes regardless of the care intensity provided.

Background: Gaining a better understanding of the probability, timing and prediction of rehospitalisation amongst preterm babies could help improve outcomes. There is limited research addressing these topics amongst extremely and very preterm babies. In this context, unplanned rehospitalisations constitute an important, potentially modifiable adverse event.

Purpose: Expediting the diagnosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) would benefit care management, especially for the start of treatments requiring histological evidence. This study evaluated the combined diagnostic performance of circulating biomarkers obtained by peripheral and portal blood liquid biopsy in patients with resectable PDAC.

Experimental Design: Liquid biopsies were performed in a prospective translational clinical trial (PANC-CTC #NCT03032913) including 22 patients with resectable PDAC and 28 noncancer controls from February to November 2017.

Long interpregnancy interval and mode of delivery.

Arch Gynecol Obstet

December 2019

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Robert Debré University Hospital, AP-HP, Paris, France.

Purpose: WHO sets 24 months as the ideal minimum interpregnancy interval (IPI) to minimize maternal and perinatal adverse outcomes. Some studies suggest that an interval longer than 59 months may affect these outcomes, but little is known about its influence on labor. The primary objective of this study was to compare the cesarean delivery rate between primiparous women with a long IPI and, on the one hand, primiparous women with an ideal minimum IPI of 18-24 months and, on the other hand, with nulliparous women.

Consumers' perceptions of five front-of-pack nutrition label formats (health star rating (HSR), multiple traffic lights (MTL), Nutri-Score, reference intakes (RI) and warning label) were assessed across 12 countries (Argentina, Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Mexico, Singapore, Spain, the UK and the USA). Perceptions assessed included liking, trust, comprehensibility, salience and desire for the label to be mandatory. A sample of 12,015 respondents completed an online survey in which they rated one of the five (randomly allocated) front-of-pack labels (FoPLs) along the perception dimensions described above.

Consumers' Responses to Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labelling: Results from a Sample from The Netherlands.

August 2019

Front-of-pack labels (FoPLs) are efficient tools for helping consumers identify healthier food products. Although discussions on nutritional labelling are currently ongoing in Europe, few studies have compared the effectiveness of FoPLs in European countries, including the Netherlands. This study aimed to compare five FoPLs among Dutch participants (the Health Star Rating (HSR) system, Multiple Traffic Lights (MTL), Nutri-Score, Reference Intakes (RIs), and Warning symbols) in terms of perception and understanding of the labels and food choices.

August 2019

Sorbonne Paris Cité Epidemiology and Statistics Research Center (CRESS), Inserm U1153, Inra U1125, Cnam, Paris 13 University, Nutritional Epidemiology Research Team (EREN), Bobigny, France.

Following the revision of the French dietary guidelines in 2017, the Programme National Nutrition Santé - guidelines score (PNNS-GS), built upon previous recommendations released in 2001, needed to be updated. This cross-sectional study thus aimed to develop and validate the PNNS-GS2, a predefined food-based dietary index based on the 2017-revised French nutritional guidelines. A total of 80 965 participants recruited among French adults (≥18 years old) in the NutriNet-Santé web-based prospective cohort were included.
