The greatest challenge for the agriculture sector in the twenty-first century is to increase agricultural production to feed the burgeoning global population while maintaining soil health and the integrity of the agroecosystem. Currently, the application of biochar is widely implemented as an effective means for boosting sustainable agriculture while having a negligible influence on ecosystems and the environment. In comparison to traditional biochar, nano-biochar (nano-BC) boasts enhanced specific surface area, adsorption capacity, and mobility properties within soil, allowing it to promote soil properties, crop growth, and environmental remediation.

The discharge of ammonia-nitrogen (NH-N), total nitrogen (TN), chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total phosphorus (TP) in rural sewage usually exceeds the Pollutant Discharge Standard for Urban Sewage Treatment Plants (GB18918-2002). Efficient and cost-effective removal of these pollutants cannot be simultaneously realized using conventional rural sewage treatment methods. Thus, an assembled biological filter (D50 × W50 × H113 cm), including a phosphorus removal layer filled with solid polymeric ferric sulfate and alternating aerobic-anaerobic layers, is proposed herein.

Waterlogging occurs frequently at the stem elongation stage of wheat in southern China, decreasing post-anthesis photosynthetic rates and constraining grain filling. This phenomenon, and the mitigating effect of nutrient application, should be investigated as it could lead to improved agronomic guidelines. In this research, the abundance and structure of AOA amoA gene during agricultural waste composting were determined by quantitative PCR and sequencing techniques, respectively. Pairwise correlations between potential ammonia oxidation (PAO) rate, physicochemical parameters and the AOA abundance were evaluated using Pearson correlation coefficient. The fate of sulfamethoxazole (SMZ), norfloxacin (NOR) and doxycycline (DOX) and their biological effects in radish and pakchoi culture systems were investigated. DOX dissipated more rapidly than SMZ and NOR, while radish and pakchoi cultivation increased the removal of residual DOX in soils. Dissipation of NOR was accelerated in radish soils but was slowed down slightly in pakchoi soils.

Fungal community abundance and structure were determined by quantitative PCR and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis analysis combined with DNA sequencing. This study investigated the enantioselective degradation behavior of pyraclofos in three soils (NC, HZ, and ZZ) under native and sterilized conditions. The absolute configuration of pyraclofos enantiomers has been determined by the combination of experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra. S-(+)- and R-(-)-Pyraclofos were separated and determined on a cellulose tri-(4-chloro-3-methylphenylcarbamate) (Lux Cellulose-4) chiral column by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

The microbial cooperated reaction is one of the most important forms of microbial degradation of organic pollutants. Although there were many research reports of cooperating degradation, less report on the microbial cooperated of pyrethroid degradation to be found. We have isolated one degrading-bacteria strain named CDT3 for degradation of cypermethrin, which can degraded the cypermethrin into 3-PBA and DCVA.
