Background: Globally, interest in surgical diseases in the elderly was rekindled recently mainly due to a surge in the aging population and their increased susceptibility to infections. In sub-Saharan Africa, infective diseases are major causes of high morbidity and mortality especially in elderly cohorts, hence this study was set to evaluate current status of this scourge in the elderly in our environment.
Aim: To document the aetiologic factors and analyze the impact of selected clinical and perioperative indices on mortality and morbidity rates of peritonitis in the elderly.

Introduction: Frequent relapses and steroid dependence are common treatment challenges of steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS) in children. Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is the most frequently reported trigger of relapse. Given the role of zinc supplementation in preventing ARI, some studies show that this targeted intervention may reduce relapses in childhood SSNS.

Ascertaining the incidence of these episodes of such seizures in the community is wrought with many challenges and few reports exist in sub-Saharan Africa, a region with a high burden of epilepsy. The aim of this study was to describe the caregiver reported frequency of acute recurrent seizures in people with epilepsy attending neurology outpatient clinic in Enugu.
