: Current craniofacial reconstruction surgical methods have limitations because they involve facial deformation. The craniofacial region includes many areas where the mucosa, exposed to air, is closely adjacent to bone, with the maxilla being a prominent example of this structure. Therefore, this study explored whether human neural-crest-derived stem cells (hNTSCs) aid bone and airway mucosal regeneration during craniofacial reconstruction using a rabbit model.

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) and acute non-allergic rhinosinusitis (ARS) often present with similar symptoms. While these are generally differentiated by history and occasionally by secretion cell counts, there are few data temporally comparing these conditions.
Methods: A prospective, observational study was conducted to assess nasal mucus properties, nasal obstruction, nasal secretion cells, and health related QOL during the acute phase (Day 5) and during a later phase of illness (Day 14/28).

Background/objectives: Understanding speech in background noise is a challenging task for listeners with normal hearing and even more so for individuals with hearing impairments. The primary objective of this study was to develop Romanian speech material in noise to assess speech perception in diverse auditory populations, including individuals with normal hearing and those with various types of hearing loss. The goal was to create a versatile tool that can be used in different configurations and expanded for future studies examining auditory performance across various populations and rehabilitation methods.

Objective: The relationship between aided speech recognition and hearing-aid (HA) amplification was investigated in a retrospective study.
Design And Study Sample: Pure-tone thresholds, aided and unaided speech recognition and real-ear measurements of 635 ears in 374 HA users were reviewed. Ears were classified according to pure-tone average (PTA) and real-ear aided response (REAR) in relation to the targets of NAL-NL2 and DSL v5.

The purpose of this study was to assess the microbial composition and density of subgingival plaque samples for periodontal pathogens while correlating the values with glycemic control levels via glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), a type of hemoglobin that has chemically linked glucose, in type I diabetes individuals who will undergo complex oral rehabilitation through orthodontic treatment and implant surgery. A cohort of 42 adults with type I diabetes were included in this study. The subjects sustained a comprehensive periodontal clinical examination as well as microbiological assessments of their subgingival plaque samples through quantitative real-time PCR.

Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSA) is a multi-factorial disorder, with quite complex endotypes, consisting of anatomical and non-anatomical pathophysiological factors. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is recognized as the first-line standard treatment for OSA, whereas upper airway (UA) surgery is often recommended for treating mild OSA patients who have refused or cannot tolerate CPAP, mild and primary snorers. The main results achievable by the surgery are UA expansion, and/or stabilization, and/or removal of the obstructive tissue to different UA levels.

This study aims to establish a set of normal values for the objective evaluation of ocular movements using videonystagmography (VNG). Thirty individuals aged between 18 and 50 years, with no history of vestibular symptoms, recurrent headaches, central nervous system (CNS) symptoms, or cochlear symptoms, were selected. The assessment of five types of ocular movements (saccades, pursuit, optokinetic tests, spontaneous nystagmus, and gaze tests) were conducted using VNG.

The current study examined the effectiveness of Rhinapi, a hypertonic saline nasal spray with Anatolian propolis added, on allergic rhinitis (AR) symptoms in a European population. Four hundred and forty AR patients (251 males and 189 females) from various European centers were enrolled. Nasal examination, overall symptom scores, individual AR symptoms (nasal discharge, sneezing, nasal itching, and nasal obstruction), and quality of life (QoL) were assessed before and after 3 weeks of treatment with Rhinapi, the nasal spray made of hypertonic saline with Anatolian propolis added (Bee&You, Istanbul, Turkey).

To determine the genetic causes of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) associated with inner ear anomalies, 11 unrelated Turkish individuals diagnosed with SNHL and an inner ear anomaly using temporal bone computed tomography and inner ear magnetic resonance imaging underwent exome or whole genome sequencing to identify underlying genetic defects. None of the individuals was diagnosed with a recognized syndrome. Four of the 11 probands were homozygous for variants, , , , and .

Allergic rhinitis and asthma are commonly coexisting conditions, significantly impacting patient health and quality of life. Despite their interrelation, diagnosing allergic rhinitis in patients with asthma remains challenging, leading to underdiagnosis and suboptimal management. The expert consensus engaged a modified Delphi method involving 29 experts including pulmonologists, ear, nose, and throat surgeons, and allergologists.

In the 2nd century AD, Galen argued that the failure to remove any single 'root' of a malignant tumor could result in a local relapse. After nearly 2 millennia, this problem appears to be even more challenging due to our increased understanding of the complexity of tumor formation and spread. Pathological analysis of tumor margins under a microscope remains the primary and only accepted method for confirming the complete tumor removal.

However, making a definitive diagnosis can be difficult, which can adversely affect the outcome of treatment. We reviewed the diagnostic features of MPO-ANCA-positive middle ear disease and here discuss the difficulties of timely diagnosis and treatment.

Purpose: 'Illness perceptions' refers to the thoughts and ideas a person has about an illness. According to Leventhal's Self-Regulatory Model (SRM), changing the threatening illness perceptions of cochlear implant (CI) recipients can be a further step in optimizing hearing outcomes with the CI. The aims of the present study were to assess users' illness perceptions and to determine whether perceptions change during six months of CI rehabilitation.

Background While most research on dysphagia treatment has focused on inpatients, less attention has been given to outpatient settings, particularly in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) clinics. Additionally, while questionnaires are commonly used as screening tools in dysphagia management, their correlation with outcomes such as pneumonia incidence or sustained oral intake is rarely discussed. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of outpatient treatment in ENT clinics for dysphagia, including improvement in subjective symptoms, and to assess the role of the questionnaire.

Objectives: To investigate preoperative MRI evaluation of the features of the mylohyoid muscle (MM) predictive of its infiltration in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) treatment planning, defining the most appropriate sequences to study its deep extension into the floor of the mouth (FOM).
Materials And Methods: We applied a 7-point score to retrospectively evaluate preoperative imaging of patients who underwent surgery for OSCC over 11 years. The results were compared with histopathological findings using Spearman's rank coefficient.

Split hand/foot malformation is a heterogeneous congenital disorder mainly presented with a median cleft of hands or/and feet. It can be associated with long bone aplasia, a syndrome also known as split hand/foot syndrome with long bone deficiency (SHFLD), which is a very rare condition. We report a very rare case of a male fetus with SHFLD syndrome combined with fibular aplasia, tibial campomelia, and oligosyndactyly (FATCO) syndrome.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to describe the incidence and demographics of laryngeal papillomatosis (LP) in Denmark, including sex and age distribution, recurrence rates, and HPV subtypes, using a new method of register identification.
Methods: The data were extracted from the Danish Pathology Data Bank using SNOMED codes instead of the usual method using ICD codes from the Danish National Health Register. The derived pathology records were manually verified by three medical doctors.
