The impact of cardiac and cerebrovascular events during COVID-19 hospitalization on long-term prognosis remains uncertain. We aimed to evaluate the effect of myocardial infarction (MI), cerebrovascular accident (CVA), and pulmonary embolism (PE) during hospitalization on the long-term prognosis in patients who survived COVID-19 hospitalization. A retrospective observational analysis was performed on a cohort of 2,389 patients who survived COVID-19 hospitalization in our institution between January and June 2020.

Depression has been shown to predispose to poorer prognosis and outcomes in patients with heart failure, including rehospitalization, poor functional status, and mortality. Our study aimed to decipher the recent trends in hospitalization and in-hospital mortality attributable to heart failure patients with depression in the United States. We analyzed data from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) from 2016 to 2020.

Objective We aimed to describe epidemiologic trends in outcomes of colonic diverticular disease (CDD) hospitalizations in morbidly obese patients. Methods We searched the United States National Inpatient Sample databases from 2010 through 2019, obtained the incidence rate of morbid obesity (MO) among CDD hospitalizations, and used Joinpoint analysis to obtain trends in these rates adjusted for age and sex. Hospitalizations involving patients less than 18 years of age were excluded.

Post-procedure rhinitis is a form of nonallergic rhinitis that is a common but underreported complication occurring after procedures requiring sedation and the use of supplemental oxygen via nasal cannula. Symptoms occur immediately after awakening from sedation and may be so unbearable, that it impairs work, daily functioning, sleep patterns, and quality of life. This case describes a 67-year-old male who developed these symptoms after esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) under sedation with supplemental oxygen via nasal cannula.

We discuss a case of a 52-year-old male who presented with chronic fatigue, cyclic fever, night sweats, and weight loss. He was treated with culture-directed antibiotics and surgical aortic valve replacement due to disease severity and risk of embolization.

Background: Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is one of the common causes of neurological injury in full-term neonates following perinatal asphyxia. The conventional magnetic resonance technique has low sensitivity in detecting variations in cerebral blood flow in patients with HIE.
Objective: This article evaluates the clinical diagnostic value of three-dimensional pseudo-continuous arterial spin labelling (3-D pcASL) perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for early prediction of neurobehavioral outcomes in full-term neonates with HIE.

Acute pancreatitis is the most common serious complication of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) resulting in significant morbidity and occasional mortality. Post-ERCP pancreatitis (PEP) has been recognized since ERCP was first performed, and many studies have shown a consistent risk that must be balanced against the many benefits of this procedure. This review will discuss the pathogenesis, epidemiology, potential risk factors, and clinical presentation of PEP.

Since the beginning of COVID-19 vaccination in New Jersey in December 2020, we have observed multiple cases of undetectable adaptive immunity, post-vaccination or post-COVID-19 infection, in patients using immunosuppressants. Here, we present three cases of patients using immunosuppressants: mycophenolate and tacrolimus for renal transplant; ocrelizumab for multiple sclerosis and rituximab for peripheral ulcerative keratitis. All three patients were admitted for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) from COVID-19 pneumonia; two patients reported having received full COVID-19 vaccination prior to admission and one unvaccinated patient required readmission.

Introduction: Mitral valve (MV) prolapse (MVP) is a primary valvular abnormality. We hypothesized that additionally there are concomitant abnormalities of the left ventricle (LV) and MV apparatus in this entity even in the absence of significant mitral regurgitation (MR).
Objective: To characterize MV and LV anatomic and functional features in MVP with preserved LV ejection fraction, with and without significant MR, using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR).
