Background: Liberal or overtransfusion (OT) may be regarded as "inappropriate," but it is not reported as a transfusion-related adverse event. A definition of OT is lacking. OT may include overdosing of components, giving the incorrect component, or unnecessary administration without evidence of need for transfusion.

The present study aimed to assess organ doses and the associated cancer risks related to secondary radiation (photons and neutrons) exposure during 3D Conformational Radiotherapy (3D-CRT) for patients with prostate cancer in Algeria. To this purpose, a detailed geometric Monte Carlo (MC) modeling of the LINAC, combined with a hybrid whole-body phantom was carried out. The secondary radiation doses were calculated in patient's organs, both within and outside the field.

Background: Patients undergoing cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) implantation are often on direct oral anticoagulation (DOAC). However, the evidence on whether to continue or temporarily discontinue DOAC therapy during the perioperative period in these patients is unclear.
Methods: We conducted a comprehensive literature review using PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases through July 2024.

Benign Multicystic Peritoneal Mesothelioma (BMPM) is an exceedingly rare benign abdominal neoplasm with fewer than 200 cases reported worldwide. Owing to its rarity, vague clinical picture, and elusive causes, diagnosis is often delayed or missed. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining are crucial for definitive diagnosis.

Background And Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) meeting high-risk criteria for early relapse after CD19 CAR T-cell therapy (CART) who have disease encompassable in a standard radiation therapy (RT) plan (defined as <5 malignant lesions) and may benefit from bridging RT prior to CD19 CART.
Materials And Methods: This is a single-center, retrospective study of patients with R/R NHL who received CD19 CART from 2018 to 2022. Eligible patients had pre-apheresis radiologic studies available.

Background: Excessive perioperative bleeding is associated with major complications in cardiac surgery, resulting in increased morbidity, mortality, and cost.
Methods: An international expert panel was convened to develop consensus statements on the control of bleeding and management of transfusion and to suggest key quality metrics for cardiac surgical bleeding. The panel reviewed relevant literature from the previous 10 years and used a modified RAND Delphi methodology to achieve consensus.

Background: Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a recognized complication among individuals undergoing bone marrow transplantation (BMT). There is a requirement for supplementary data regarding the in-patient outcomes of GVHD in individuals who have undergone BMT. Our analysis seeks to assess the healthcare burden and outcomes associated with GVHD in hospitalized patients who have undergone BMT.

Bilateral adrenal hemorrhage (AH) is linked to various causes, including bacterial and viral infections, coagulopathies, and postoperative states. Symptoms can range from mild adrenal insufficiency to shock from Waterhouse-Friedrichsen syndrome. We present a case of a 47-year-old male with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) on warfarin who presented to the emergency department (ED) with bilateral flank pain and was found to have bilateral AH.

Hirsutism in females is most commonly associated with polycystic ovarian syndrome, but can also result from congenital adrenal hyperplasia and ovarian tumors like granulosa cell tumors, Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors, and hilus cell tumors. We present a case of a 54-year-old female with hirsutism, diagnosed with ovarian cystadenofibroma. She had a history of premature ovarian failure at the age of 35 and presented with new onset chin and upper lip hair, and scalp hair loss.

Pernicious anemia, stemming from Vitamin B12 deficiency and autoimmune processes affecting intrinsic factor production, presents challenges in early diagnosis due to vague initial symptoms. This case report introduces a unique occurrence of pernicious anemia-induced peripheral neuropathy in a patient with concurrent HLA-B27 arthropathy, highlighting the complex interplay of autoimmune mechanisms. While HLA-B27 is not typically associated with pernicious anemia, the case underscores the importance of exploring specific HLA haplotypes in understanding the nuanced manifestation of autoimmune disorders.

Statins are widely used crucial drugs for the primary and secondary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although generally well tolerated, statin intolerance can unfortunately limit statin use, with statin-associated muscle symptoms (SAMS) being the most common side effect associated with its discontinuation. Statin intolerance is an inability to tolerate a dose of statin required to sufficiently reduce an individual's cardiovascular risk, limiting the effective treatment of patients at risk of or with cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Pancreaticoduodenal artery aneurysms (PDAAs) are an extremely rare visceral artery aneurysm subtype, usually managed by endovascular techniques. We report the case of a 57-year-old man with an intrapancreatic, inferior PDAA abutting the superior mesenteric artery (SMA). This location, in relation to the SMA, risks SMA thrombosis using an endovascular-only approach.

While high-dose therapy and autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) remain integral to the primary treatment of newly diagnosed transplant-elble multiple myeloma (MM) patients, the challenge of disease progression persists. The primary objective of this meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tandem ASCT compared to single ASCT. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials and observational studies comparing tandem ASCT with single ASCT in patients with newly diagnosed MM.

In this case report, a new modified technique is described for an efficient, simple, and effective digital approach to immediate provisionalization of the implant-supported full-arch prosthesis. Today's patient population is increasingly educated about treatment options and expects efficient, esthetic, and comfortable results. This novel technique delivers on these aims while eliminating the many challenges posed by previously described digital and analog techniques to the immediate provisionalization of the implant-supported full-arch prosthesis.

The choice of a splinted or nonsplinted implant-supported prosthesis should be based on solid scientific evidence that considers the conditions and needs of each patient. This review elaborates on the factors that directly influence clinical decisions between splinted or nonsplinted dental implants. Digital and manual searches of the published literature were conducted to identify studies that examined splinted prostheses (SPs) and nonsplinted prostheses (NSPs).

Background: While females have been found to have a higher rate of procedural complications with transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) than males, the effect of valve choice has not been fully elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the impact of gender and choice of balloon or self-expanding valve on TAVI complications.
Methods: Data from patients who received a TAVI in our institution from January 2016 to September 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.
