Objective: The different cutting mode of robot-assisted TKAs may influence the accuracy of alignment. The purpose of this study was to compare alignment accuracy and early clinical outcomes between a CT-based, saw cutting robotic system (MAKO) and a CT-free, jig-guided robotic system (ROSA) for total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
Methods: A total of 20 MAKO TKAs and 20 ROSA TKAs from June 2021 to June 2022 were retrospectively analyzed.

The microenvironment of bone defect site is vital for bone regeneration. Severe bone defect is often accompanied with severe inflammation and elevated generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during bone repair. In recent years, the unfriendly local microenvironment has been paid more and more attention.

Background: Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS) is a rare congenital disorder characterized by the fusion of two or more cervical vertebrae during early prenatal development. This fusion results from a failure of segmentation during the first trimester. Although six genes have previously been associated with KFS, they account for only a small proportion of cases.

Microplastic pollution is a pressing global environmental concern with particular urgency surrounding the issue of nanoplastic particles. Plastic products exhibit a remarkable persistence in natural ecosystems, resisting easy degradation. Nanoplastics, characterized by their diminutive size, possess distinct properties when compared to their larger counterparts, which could potentially render them more ecologically detrimental.

Oxeiptosis is a reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced pathway of cell death. The involvement of circular RNAs (circRNAs) has been confirmed in the incidence and progression of intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). However, whether oxeiptosis occurs in IVDD and how circRNAs regulate oxeiptosis is still unclear.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is an important pathological basis for degenerative spinal diseases and is involved in mitophagy dysfunction. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying mitophagy regulation in IDD remain unclear. This study aimed to clarify the role of DJ-1 in regulating mitophagy during IDD pathogenesis.

The autonomic nervous system plays a crucial role in regulating bone metabolism, with sympathetic activation stimulating bone resorption and inhibiting bone formation. We found that fractures lead to increased sympathetic tone, enhanced osteoclast resorption, decreased osteoblast formation, and thus hastened systemic bone loss in ovariectomized (OVX) mice. However, the combined administration of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and the β-receptor blocker propranolol dramatically promoted systemic bone formation and osteoporotic fracture healing in OVX mice.

Zinc (Zn) is a bioabsorbable metal that shows great potential as an implant material for orthopedic applications. Suitable concentrations of zinc ions promote osteogenesis, while excess zinc ions cause apoptosis. As a result, the conflicting impacts of Zn concentration on osteogenesis could prove to be significant problems for the creation of novel materials.

Natural polymer-based hydrogels have been widely applied in bone tissue engineering due to their excellent biocompatibility and outstanding ability of drug encapsulation. However, they have relatively weak mechanical properties and lack bioactivity. Hence, we developed a bioactive nanoparticle composite hydrogel by incorporating LAPONITE®, which is an osteo-inductive inorganic nanoparticle.

Background: Lactic acid, previously regarded only as an endpoint of glycolysis, has emerged as a major regulator of tumor invasion, growth, and the tumor microenvironment. In this study, we aimed to explore the reprogramming of lactic acid metabolism relevant to osteosarcoma (OS) microenvironment by decoding the underlying lactic acid metabolic landscape of OS cells and intercellular signaling alterations.
Methods: The landscape of OS metabolism was evaluated using single-cell gene expression data, lactic acid metabolism clustering, and screening of the hub genes in lactic acid metabolism of OS samples using transcriptome data.

Background: Dural ossification (DO) is the leading cause of surgery-related dural tear in patients with ossification of the ligamentum flavum (OLF). An accurate preoperative diagnosis of DO is conducive to the selection of appropriate surgical methods. Although several imaging signs, such as Banner cloud sign (BCs), tram-track sign (TTs), and comma sign (Cs) have been proposed for the preoperative diagnosis of DO, their diagnostic value has not been well studied.

Here, high purity magnesium cylindrical rods with gradient of surface area to volume ratio were processed by excavating different numbers of grooves on the side surface. The immersion test in SBF solution and the rat femoral condylar bone defect model were used to evaluate the degradation of magnesium rods and , respectively.

Background: Pedicle screw and lamina hook (PSLH) technique is an effective and popular method for direct pars repair of lumbar spondylolysis. There is a lack of studies to explore factors that may influence the healing of spondylolysis after direct pars repair surgery. The present study aimed to investigate the factors associated with non-fusion after direct pars repair of lumbar spondylolysis with PSLH technique.

Objective: To explore the short-term outcomes of 3D-printing stand-alone artificial vertebral body (AVB) in the surgical procedure of anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF).
Methods: Following the proposal of IDEAL (idea, development, exploration, assessment, and long-term follow-up) framework, we designed and conducted this single-armed, retrospective cohort study. The patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy were recruited, and these patients exclusively received the surgical procedure of single-level ACCF in our single center.

Background: Early cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) is challenging to diagnose and easily missed. Diffusion MRI (dMRI) has the potential to identify early CSM.
Methods: Using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI), and neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI), a 1:1 matched case-control study was conducted to evaluate the potential of dMRI in identifying early CSM and assessing uncompressed segments of CSM patients.

Objective: To evaluate the early effectiveness of local infiltration anesthesia (LIA) with compound betamethasone in total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
Methods: The clinical data of 102 patients with knee osteoarthritis who were treated by TKA and met the selection criteria between May 2022 and March 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into control group and study group according to whether LIA preparation was added with compound betamethasone, with 51 cases in each group.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent debilitating whole-joint disorder. Currently, a growing number of proteomic studies have been performed to evaluate molecular biomarkers in several tissues from OA patients; however, little is known about the protein profiles in subchondral bone of OA. In this study, proteomic analysis was performed on subchondral bone from patients with OA to identify differentially expressed proteins (DEPs).

Identifying potential prognostic factors of CSM patients could improve doctors' clinical decision-making ability. The study retrospectively collected the baseline data of population characteristics, clinical symptoms, physical examination, neurological function and quality of life scores of patients with CSM based on the clinical big data research platform. The modified Japanese Orthopedic Association (mJOA) score and SF-36 score from the short-term follow-up data were entered into the cluster analysis to characterize postoperative residual symptoms and quality of life.
