Background: For degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS), prior studies mainly focused on the preoperative relationship between spinopelvic parameters and health-related quality of life (HRQoL), lacking an exhaustive evaluation of the postoperative situation. Therefore, the postoperative parameters most closely bonded with clinical outcomes has not yet been well-defined in DLS patients. The objective of this study was to comprehensively assess the correlation between radiographic parameters and HRQoL before and after surgery, and to identified the most valuable spinopelvic parameters for postoperative curative effect.

Background: Degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS) represents a distinct subset of adult spinal deformity, frequently co-occurring with thoracolumbar kyphosis (TLK) in the sagittal plane. TLK is typically viewed as detrimental in degenerative spinal conditions and has been linked to increased pain severity and a higher prevalence of mechanical complications (MC) as previously reported. The present study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with the development of MC in patients with DLS and concomitant TLK.

In bone tissue engineering, a suitable scaffold is the key. Due to their similar composition to bone tissue, special structure, good mechanical properties, and osteogenic properties, acellular fish scale scaffolds are potential scaffolds for bone tissue engineering. At present, the fish scale decellularization scheme mostly uses a combination of sodium dodecyl sulfate and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), but this method has problems.

Objective: During percutaneous endoscopic interlaminar discectomy (PEID), a range of technologies including medical robotics, visual navigation, and spatial registration have been proposed to expand the application scope and success rate of minimally invasive surgery. The use of robotic technology in surgery is conducive to improving accuracy and reducing risk. This study aims to introduce a precise and efficient targeting method tailored for robot-assisted positioning under C-arm fluoroscopy inPEID.

Background Context: Osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) causes pain, kyphosis and neurological damage, which significantly affect patients' quality of life. Patients with OVCF are often elderly and have severe osteoporosis, which makes preoperative symptom more serious, postoperative recovery worse and the incidence of postoperative complications high. The paraspinal muscles have been well studied in adult spinal deformities, but there is no conclusive evidence that their findings can be applied to OVCF.

The delivery of accurate diagnoses is crucial in healthcare and represents the gateway to appropriate and timely treatment. Although recent large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated impressive capabilities in few-shot or zero-shot learning, their effectiveness in clinical diagnosis remains unproven. Here we present MedFound, a generalist medical language model with 176 billion parameters, pre-trained on a large-scale corpus derived from diverse medical text and real-world clinical records.

Background: Epigenetic modifications have been proved to play important roles in the spinal degenerative diseases. As a type of noncoding RNA, the microRNA (miRNA) is a vital class of regulatory factor in the epigenetic modifications, while the role of miRNAs in the regulation of epigenetic modifications in ligamentum flavum hypertrophy (LFH) has not been fully investigated.
Methods: The miRNA sequencing analysis was used to explore the change of miRNA expression during the fibrosis of ligamentum flavum (LF) cells caused by the TGF-β1 (10 ng/ml).

Objective: To confirm the effect of surgery on spinal column biomechanics and to provide theoretical support for the advantages and disadvantages of different surgical methods and their clinical efficacy.
Methods: 33 continuous patients with no significant difference in risk factors related to the mechanical complications were enrolled in this retrospective study. Sagittal parameters were measured in the pre-, post-operative and following-up lateral radiograph of spine.

Magnetic microrobot swarms have broad application prospects in human-targeted therapy. However, the automated assembly and actuation of functional large-volume swarms is a challenging topic. Chlorella with self-fluorescence and biodegradability is used in this paper as a template to prepare magnetic Chlorella-based microrobots through magnetron sputtering.

The repair of diabetic bone defects is still filled with enormous challenges. Excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) are regenerated in diabetic bone defect sites which is harmful to bone regeneration. Therefore, it's to a good strategy to scavenge the excess ROS to provide a friendly environment for diabetic bone defects repair.

Background: A warning system to avoid potential nerve root thermal injury caused by automatic spine robot is essential. However, there is a lack of basic research to support the development of such warning system. The aims of this study are to confirm the feasibility of continuous intraoperative neuromonitoring (CIONM) in spinal nerve root monitoring and study the exposure time of spinal nerve root thermal injury at different temperature in a porcine model.

Degenerative spine and joint diseases, including intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD), ossification of the spinal ligaments (OSL), and osteoarthritis (OA), are common musculoskeletal diseases that cause pain or disability to the patients. However, the pathogenesis of these musculoskeletal disorders is complex and has not been elucidated clearly to date. As a matter of fact, the spine and joints are not independent of other organs and tissues.

Schizophrenia is a complex and chronic psychiatric disorder that significantly impacts patients' quality of life. Ranking 12th among 310 diseases and injuries that result in disability, the number of patients suffering from schizophrenia continues to rise, emphasizing the urgent need for developing effective treatments. Despite the availability of effective antipsychotic drugs, over 80% of patients taking oral antipsychotics experience relapses, primarily caused by non-adherence as the high dosing frequency is required.

Objective: To evaluate the modified vertebral bone quality (VBQ) method on the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T1-weighted (T1w), T2-weighted (T2w), and fat suppression (FS) series in evaluating bone mineral density (BMD) for patients with degenerative lumbar disease.
Methods: We reviewed preoperative data of postmenopausal female patients aged ≥ 50 years hospitalized to undergo lumbar surgery for degenerative lumbar disease with available MRI and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). Patients were categorized into three groups according to T-score.

Ligamentum flavum degeneration, including hypertrophy and ossification of the ligamentum flavum, leads to degenerative spinal stenosis in older adults. However, the underlying mechanisms of ligamentum flavum degeneration remain unclear, and therapeutic strategies are limited. Noncoding RNAs include microRNAs, circular RNAs, and long noncoding RNAs.

Background: A deep learning (DL) model that can automatically detect and classify cervical canal and neural foraminal stenosis using cervical spine magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can improve diagnostic accuracy and efficiency.
Methods: A method comprising region-of-interest (ROI) detection and cascade prediction was formulated for diagnosing cervical spinal stenosis based on a DL model. First, three part-specific convolutional neural networks were employed to detect the ROIs in different parts of the cervical MR images.

Effective bone defect repair has been a tough clinical challenge due to the complexity of the bone defect microenvironment. Hydrogels loaded with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) have been widely applied for bone regeneration. However, the low survival of BMSCs at the site of transplantation and lack of sufficient osteogenic induction capacity greatly limit their applications.
