Aggressive Infection by K1/ST1265 Leading to Multiple Abscesses: Case Report and Literature Review.

Hypervirulent (hvKp) has attracted increasing attention in recent years. Diabetes and serotype K1 or K2 are risk factors for invasive liver abscess syndrome including liver abscesses and the metastatic complications such as bacteremia, meningitis, endophthalmitis, and necrotizing fasciitis. Simultaneous infections of the liver, lungs, prostate, brain, and eyes are exceedingly rare.

Safety and efficacy of supraciliary dexamethasone implantation for macular oedema: a preliminary comparative study.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of dexamethasone implantation in the supraciliary (SC) space, a novel and potential effective implantation site, compared to intravitreal (IV) application.

Methods: This prospective study included 39 eyes of 38 patients with macular oedema (ME) who underwent SC and IV dexamethasone implantation (SC-DEX and IV-DEX). Patients were randomly assigned to treatment groups and followed for 3 months.

Impact of patient characteristics and surgery-related risk factors on endophthalmitis after cataract surgery: a meta-analysis.

Introduction Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide, with a notably high incidence rate. Endophthalmitis is the most severe complication following cataract surgery , often resulting in profound vision loss. This study evaluates the impact of risk factors such as age, sex, diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension, posterior capsule rupture (PCR), type of surgery, and use of intraocular lens (IOL) material on the risk of endophthalmitis after cataract surgery.

Animal and bird-related ocular trauma: a decade of experience from a tertiary referral eye hospital of Iran.

Background: This study aimed to explore ocular and periocular injuries resulting from animal and bird attacks among patients referred to a tertiary referral eye hospital of Iran over ten years (2014-2024).

Methods: In this retrospective analysis, we collected data on patient demographics, the species of the attacking animal and bird, the nature of the ocular and periocular injuries, details of ophthalmological examinations, therapeutic interventions, and surgical treatments.

Results: One hundred and twenty-nine patients, with an average age of 36 ± 23 years (range: 1-77 years), were included in this study, of whom 81 were male.

Efficacy of Cefiderocol Against Endophthalmitis Isolates.

Endophthalmitis is an intraocular microbial infection that can lead to permanent blindness, even with prompt anti-microbial therapy. Multi-drug-resistant organisms are on the rise, potentially limiting the efficacy of current empiric antibiotic therapies of intravitreal ceftazidime and vancomycin. Cefiderocol is a recent FDA- and EMA-approved antibiotic for multi-drug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.

Prophylactic barrage laser in patients with previous vitreous loss during cataract surgery: a randomized clinical trial.

Background: One of the significant challenges that can arise during cataract surgery is the occurrence of posterior capsule rupture (PCR) and vitreous loss. It may result in different complications including cystoid macular edema, endophthalmitis, glaucoma, and considerably retinal detachment which consequently contributes to poor functional outcomes.

Methods: This study was a prospective double blinded randomized clinical trial including 42 patients with previous complicated cataract surgery including posterior capsular rupture and consequently vitreous loss that anterior vitrectomy was done for them.

Purpose: To report one-year real-world evidence on intraocular inflammation (IOI) adverse events (AEs) in patients undergoing faricimab therapy in a tertiary care hospital.

Methods: A retrospective review of electronic medical records was conducted for patients receiving faricimab treatment for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME) at Moorfields Eye Hospital between September 1st, 2022, and August 31st, 2023. The primary outcome was the incidence of IOI (excluding endophthalmitis).

Bilateral primary vitreoretinal lymphoma masquerading as fungal endophthalmitis- a case report.

Purpose: To report a case of bilateral primary vitreoretinal lymphoma (PVRL) masquerading as endophthalmitis in a patient with a history of bilateral cataract surgery and COVID-19.

This study developed a method for rapid identification and drug resistance analysis of pathogens in vitreous humor. After short-term rapid culture, 30 Staphylococcus aureus isolates were enriched and purified from the vitreous humor using Fc-MBL@FeO, and then identified by MALDI-TOF MS.

A rare case of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia endogenous endophthalmitis in pediatric age group.

Background: We report a unique case of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia-related pediatric endogenous endophthalmitis.

Case Presentation: A 10-year-old male presented with redness and loss of vision in his right eye for two weeks. Clinical examination and ultrasound features were suggestive of endophthalmitis, most likely endogenous due to the absence of a history of trauma or intraocular intervention.

Methods: Retrospective study of patients who underwent lasso in-the-bag scleral fixation of a subluxated PCIOL using the snare technique with Gore-Tex suture from 2019 to 2021 in a single tertiary medical center. Functional outcome was analyzed by clinical assessment, and anatomical outcome, by ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM).

Endogenous Endophthalmitis Caused by Prototheca Microalga in Birman Cat, Spain.

We identified Prototheca spp. microalga in ocular samples of a cat in Spain with nontreatable endogenous endophthalmitis. Within 2 years, the eye lesions progressively worsened and neurologic signs appeared, suggesting systemic spread of the infection.
