Laparoscopic treatment of deep endometriosis (DE) is associated with intra- and post-operative morbidity. New technological developments, such as haptic feedback in laparoscopic instruments, could reduce the rate of complications. The aim of this study was to assess the room for improvement and potential cost-effectiveness of haptic feedback instruments in laparoscopic surgery.

Oocyte vitrification is an attractive and efficient option in the long-term management of endometriosis patients. Which women would benefit from banked oocytes when pregnancy is attempted, and whether oocyte vitrification should be carried out before or after the surgical management of endometriosis, is still debated. On the basis of recent data, and in the absence of cost-effective modelling, a personalized strategy should assess crucial variables, such as type of surgery, effect on oocyte yield and the huge heterogeneity of the clinical scenarios possibly requiring surgery.

Study Question: What is the performance of the patient-centredness of endometriosis care in a secondary and a tertiary care setting and how can it be improved?
Summary Answer: Overall, patient-centredness was comparable in the two endometriosis care centres, but differed regarding 'physical comfort' and 'continuity and transition'; both centres can learn how to improve several of their targets from the other's strengths.
What Is Known Already: The ENDOCARE questionnaire (ECQ) is a validated questionnaire for assessing the important quality dimension 'patient-centredness'. Patient-centredness is associated with quality of life, although this should be explored further by larger-scale studies.

Study Question: What are the risk factors and prevalence of bowel fistula following surgical management of deep endometriosis infiltrating the rectosigmoid and how can it be managed?
Summary Answer: In patients managed for deep endometriosis of the rectosigmoid, risk of fistula is increased by bowel opening during both segmental colorectal resection and disc excision and rectovaginal fistula repair is more challenging than for bowel leakage.
What Is Known Already: Bowel fistula is known to be a severe complication of colorectal endometriosis surgery; however, there is little available data on its prevalence in large series or on specific management.
Study Design, Size, Duration: A retrospective study employing data prospectively recorded in the North-West Inter Regional Female Cohort for Patients with Endometriosis (CIRENDO) from June 2009 to May 2019, in three tertiary referral centres.

Objective: Deep endometriosis infiltrating the rectum may be managed by full-thickness disc excision, with the goal of preserving rectal function and avoiding low anterior rectal resection syndrome (Supplemental Appendix 1). Transanal staplers may be successfully used to remove rectal wall discs and concomitantly to perform rectal suture. The goal of this video article is to identify 10 steps that may render the procedure standardized and reproducible.

Importance: The overall low survival rate of patients with lung cancer calls for improved detection tools to enable better treatment options and improved patient outcomes. Multivariable molecular signatures, such as blood-borne microRNA (miRNA) signatures, may have high rates of sensitivity and specificity but require additional studies with large cohorts and standardized measurements to confirm the generalizability of miRNA signatures.
Objective: To investigate the use of blood-borne miRNAs as potential circulating markers for detecting lung cancer in an extended cohort of symptomatic patients and control participants.

Study Question: Is there a difference in functional outcomes and recurrence rate between conservative versus radical rectal surgery in patients with large deep endometriosis infiltrating the rectum 5 years postoperatively?
Summary Answer: No evidence was found that long-term outcomes differed when nodule excision was compared to rectal resection for deeply invasive endometriosis involving the bowel.
What Is Known Already: Functional outcomes of nodule excision and rectal resection for deeply invasive endometriosis involving the bowel are comparable 2 years after surgery. Despite numerous previously reported case series enrolling patients managed for colorectal endometriosis, long-term data remain scarce in the literature.

Objective: To compare the value of using one-stop magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) vs standard radiological imaging as a supplement to transvaginal ultrasonography (TVS) for the preoperative assessment of patients with endometriosis referred for surgery in a tertiary care academic center.
Methods: This prospective observational study compared the diagnostic value of the standard preoperative imaging practice of our center, which involves expert TVS complemented by intravenous urography (IVU) for the evaluation of the ureters and double-contrast barium enema (DCBE) for the evaluation of the rectum, sigmoid and cecum, with that of expert TVS complemented by a 'one-stop' MRI examination evaluating the upper abdomen, pelvis, kidneys and ureters as well as rectum and sigmoid on the same day, for the preoperative triaging of 74 women with clinically suspected deep endometriosis. The findings at laparoscopy were considered the reference standard.

Even though endometriosis presents one of the most common gynaecological diseases, the pathogenesis is insufficiently studied. Besides immunologic, inflammatory or oxidative processes, recent studies also suggest an influence of nutrition on disease onset and progression. Because data about the actual nutrient intake of endometriosis patients are scarce, we aimed to examine the actual nutrient intake and potential influencing factors in these women.

Summary Answer: miRNA-based diagnostic models for endometriosis failed the test of independent validation.
What Is Known Already: Circulating miRNAs have been described to be differentially expressed in patients with endometriosis compared with women without endometriosis, suggesting that they could be used for the non-invasive diagnosis of endometriosis. However, these studies have shown limited consistency or conflicting results, and no miRNA-based diagnostic test has been validated in an independent patient cohort.
