Research Question: Which is the optimal extraction method for isolating and quantifying circulating cell-free DNA (ccfDNA) from patients with endometriosis? Endometriosis is a common benign disease, associated with pain, infertility and reduced quality of life. Endometriosis is also a known risk factor for various cancers. Robust biomarkers for early detection and prediction of prognosis, however, are lacking.

Purpose: In many diseases, it is possible to classify a heterogeneous group into subgroups relative to tumor biology, genetic variations, or clinical and pathological features. No such classification is available for endometriosis. In our retrospective case-case analysis we defined subgroups of endometriosis patients relative to the type and location of the endometriosis lesion and relative to basic patient characteristics.

Research Question: How do infertility patients, endometriosis patients and health-care providers rate virtual care as an alternative to physical consultations during the first lockdown of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in the Netherlands, and how does this influence quality of life and quality of care?
Design: Infertility patients and endometriosis patients from a university hospital and members of national patient organizations, as well as healthcare providers in infertility and endometriosis care, were asked to participate between May and October 2020. The distributed online questionnaires consisted of an appraisal of virtual care and an assessment of fertility-related quality of life (FertiQol) and patient-centredness of endometriosis care (ENDOCARE).
Results: Questionnaires were returned by 330 infertility patients, 181 endometriosis patients and 101 healthcare providers.

Objective: To review prospectively the clinical characteristics of patients suffering from urinary tract endometriosis (UTE) in France, in 2017.
Study Design: We conducted a prospective observational multicenter study including women managed surgically for UTE in 31 French endometriosis expert centers (FRIENDS group) from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017. We distinguished patient with isolated bladder endometriosis ("IBE") or isolated ureteral endometriosis ("IUE") and patients associating both locations (mixed locations "ML").

The study aimed to perform external validation of the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA) classification of adnexal masses as benign or malignant in women with suspected endometrioma. A retrospective study including women referred to an endometriosis tertiary referral center for dedicated transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS). Adnexal masses were evaluated using the IOTA classification simple descriptors, simple rules and expert opinion.

Study Objective: To assess whether a liberal policy of preventive stoma (LPS) reduces the rate of rectovaginal fistulas in women with excision of deep endometriosis requiring concomitant vaginal and rectal sutures in comparison with a more restrictive policy of preventive stoma (RPS) and to assess the risk factors for rectovaginal fistula.
Design: Retrospective before-and-after comparative study.
Setting: Two referral centers, one with an LPS and the other with an RPS.

We compared the prevalence of ultrasound signs of adenomyosis in women with endometriosis who underwent surgery to those who were managed conservatively. This was a retrospective study of women evaluated at a tertiary endometriosis referral center who underwent 2D/3D transvaginal ultrasound. Adenomyosis diagnosis was based on the presence of at least three sonographic signs.

Objective: Based on the hypothesis that neonatal uterine bleedings (NUB), occurring mostly in the first week after birth, could represent a pathogenetic mechanism for early-onset endometriosis, this systematic review (SR) was undertaken to evaluate the prevalence and screening strategies used to assess and quantify NUB.
Design: Both a SR and a sample literature search in PubMed and Embase were conducted to gather information on NUB prevalence and screening techniques. This was performed by an information specialist.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess a human cadaver model of sacral plexus dissection for learning about deep innervation in the female pelvis, and the latter's relationship with deep infiltrating endometriosis.
Methods: This was a prospective, observational study. Eight residents in obstetrics and gynecology were tested before and after a lecture on innervation of the female pelvis and a cadaver dissection class.

Advances in preoperative diagnostics as well as in surgical techniques for the treatment of endometriosis, especially for deep endometriosis, call for a classification system, that includes all aspects of the disease such as peritoneal endometriosis, ovarian endometriosis, deep endometriosis, and secondary adhesions. The widely accepted revised American Society for Reproductive Medicine classification (rASRM) has certain limitations because of its incomplete description of deep endometriosis. In contrast, the Enzian classification, which has been implemented in the last decade, has proved to be the most suitable tool for staging deep endometriosis, but does not include peritoneal or ovarian disease or adhesions.

Study Question: What is the prevalence of laparoscopically nonvisualized palpable satellite bowel nodules at or near the planned stapler site in women undergoing segmental bowel resection for endometriosis?
Summary Answer: Overall, 13 (25.5%) of 51 patients who underwent resection had nonvisualized palpable satellite lesions as small as 2 mm, including seven (14%) who had nonvisualized palpable lesions at or beyond the planned stapler site.
What Is Known Already: Both laparoscopy and laparotomy for bowel resection are standard of care in Europe and the USA.

Estrogen metabolites (EMs) can work independently from their parent hormones. We hypothesize that in endometriosis, estrogen is metabolized preferentially along hormonally active pathways. We recruited 62 women with endometriosis (proven laparoscopically and histologically) and 52 control women (normal findings with laparoscopy) among patients undergoing surgery for pelvic pain and/or infertility during the proliferative phase of the menstrual cycle.

Introduction: There is increasing evidence that intermediate and long-term bowel dysfunction may occur as a consequence of radical surgery for rectal deep endometriosis (DE). Typical symptoms include constipation, feeling of incomplete evacuation, clustering of stools, and urgency. This is described in the colorectal surgical literature as low anterior resection syndrome (LARS).

Study Questions: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of surgical treatment of women suffering from pain due to an ovarian endometrioma when compared to treatment with medication (analgesia and/or hormones). The primary outcome is defined as successful pain reduction (-30% reduction of pain) measured by the numeric rating scale (NRS) after 6 months. Secondary outcomes include successful pain reduction after 12 and 18 months, quality of life, affective symptoms, cost-effectiveness, recurrence rate, need of adjuvant medication after surgery, ovarian reserve, adjuvant surgery and budget impact.

Study Question: What are the patient-specific determinants associated with patient-centered endometriosis care as measured by the ENDOCARE questionnaire (ECQ)?
Summary Answer: 'Overall grade for endometriosis care', 'educational level', 'membership of a patient organization' and 'having seen other specialists for endometriosis complaints' are correlated with overall patient-centeredness scores (PCS).
What Is Known Already: Patient-centeredness of endometriosis care can be evaluated using the validated ECQ. The ECQ leads to an overall PCS and separate PCS for 10 dimensions of endometriosis care.
