Gait characteristics under single-/dual-task walking conditions in elderly patients with cerebral small vessel disease: Analysis of gait variability, gait asymmetry and bilateral coordination of gait.

Background: Dual-task walking (DTW) is common in daily life and represents an ideal paradigm for elucidating gait irregularity. Under single-task walking (STW) and DTW conditions, the symmetric and bilaterally coordinated human gait pattern found in healthy individuals is absent in individuals with neurological ailments such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and post-stroke issues. Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) is a neuropathological and radiological issue that has been reported to be associated with cognitive and motor disorders.

A ureteral stricture disease score and classification system: correlation with upper urinary tract reconstructive surgery complexity.

Background: To develop an original and standardized ureteral stricture disease (USD) score and classification system for quantifying ureter stricture characteristics, assessing complexity of the minimally invasive upper urinary tract reconstructive (UUTR) surgical procedure, formulating preoperative plans, and offering objective comparisons of surgical techniques between different institutions and surgeons.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed a test set of 64 patients and a validation set of 170 patients who underwent minimally invasive UUTR surgery from January 2018 to January 2021. Three factors were selected to be included in the USD score and classification system: (I) stricture etiology (E, 1-2 points); (II) stricture segment (S, 0-3 points); and (III) length of stricture (L, 1-5 points).

Should ureteroscopy be performed for patients after ureteral reconstruction with autologous onlay flap/graft?

Background: To analyze the safety and clinical significance of performing ureteroscopy after ureteral reconstruction with autologous onlay/graft. To describe the ureteroscopic appearances of the appendiceal onlay flap and lingual mucosa graft.

Methods: Beginning in August 2018, we conducted a prospective cohort study of autologous onlay/graft techniques to repair ureteral strictures.

[Observation of Short-term and Long-term Efficacy of Bronchoscopic Interventional Therapy in the Treatment of Typical Carcinoid].

Background: The curative potential of various bronchoscopic treatments such as electric snare, carbon dioxide freezing, argon plasma coagulation (APC), Neudymium-dopted Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (Nd:YAG) laser and photodynamic therapy (PDT) for the treatment of intraluminal tumor has been administered previously, but this regimen is not common in the treatment of typical carcinoid. The aim of this study is to investigate the curative effects both in short-term and long-term of interventional bronchoscopy in the treatment of typical carcinoid.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of typical carcinoid patients who were treated with interventional bronchoscopy for tumor suppression and they were hospitalized in the Emergency General Hospital from December 2010 to December 2020, and Wilcoxon rank sum test and chi-square test were used for analysis.

Calpain inhibitor prevents atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E knockout mice by regulating mRNA expression of genes related to cholesterol uptake and efflux.

Purpose: We previously reported that a calpain inhibitor (CAI) prevents the development of atherosclerosis in rats. This study aimed to investigate the effects of CAI (1 mg/kg) on atherosclerosis in apolipoprotein E knockout (ApoE KO) mice that were fed a high-fat diet (HFD) and explore the underlying mechanism by analyzing the expression of genes related to the uptake and efflux of cholesterol.

Agent Repurposing for the Treatment of Advanced Stage Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma Based on Gene Expression and Network Perturbation Analysis.

Over 50% of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Although there are a few therapeutic strategies for DLBCL, most of them are more effective in limited-stage cancer patients. The prognosis of patients with advanced-stage DLBCL is usually poor with frequent recurrence and metastasis.

Clinical value of microRNA-378a-3p in sepsis and its role in sepsis-induced inflammation and cardiac dysfunction.

This study explored the clinical meaning of miR-378a-3p in sepsis and its influence on sepsis-induced inflammation and cardiac dysfunction. Serum levels of miR-378a-3p were detected by quantitative Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR). The Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate its diagnostic value.

[Salvianolic acid B promotes the proliferation, migration and osteogenic differentiation of human gingival mesenchymal stem cells by activating the PI3K/AKT pathway].

Objective To investigate the effect of salvianolic acid B (SalB) on the proliferation, migration and differentiation of human gingival mesenchymal stem cells (hGMSCs). Methods The hGMSCs were isolated and cultured, and the expressions of CD73, CD90, CD34, and CD45 were detected by flow cytometry; logarithmic phase cells were selected and hGMSCs were treated with 0, 5, 10 μmol/L SalB for 24 hours. The proliferation activity of cells in each group was detected by CCK-8 assay, the migration ability of cells was detected by Transwell assay and scratch test, and the osteogenic differentiation ability and the adipogenic differentiation ability were detected by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining and oil red O staining, respectively; the mRNA and protein expressions of cell differentiation proteins and genes as well as proteins related to the PI3K/AKT signal pathway were detected by Real-time quantiative PCR and Western blotting.

Terminal augmented ureteroplasty with bladder onlay flap technique for recurrent distal ureteral stricture after ureteroneocystostomy: an initial case series.

Background: Bladder flap has been shown to be a feasible treatment for distal ureteral stenosis; this technique has been improved such that it can be used to address complex urinary tract obstructions. The purpose of the present study was to describe a surgical technique of ureteroplasty with a bladder onlay flap, which consists of a nontransecting and terminal augmented anastomosis, for repairing recurrent distal strictures of the ureter.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 6 patients who underwent this procedure between May 2018 and November 2019.

Bilateral ileal ureter substitution for patients with ureteral strictures secondary to gynecological tumors radiotherapy: a multi-center retrospective study.

Background: The selection of treatment for bilateral ureteral strictures caused by radiotherapy in patients with gynecological tumors often brings great challenges to urologists. This study was designed to analyze the characteristics of radiation-induced ureteral strictures and summarize the surgical experience of bilateral ileal ureter substitution.

Methods: We retrospectively collected the medical records of 18 patients between June 2010 and June 2019 who had a radiation-induced bilateral ureteral strictures.

Prognostic factors and survival outcome of primary pulmonary acinar cell carcinoma.

Purpose: The objective of our study was to investigate the epidemiologic characteristics and prognostic factors in patients with pulmonary acinar cell carcinoma (PACC).

Methods: PACC patients diagnosed between 1975 and 2016 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. The trend in PACC incidence was assessed using joinpoint regression software.

Chondromalacia patellae: current options and emerging cell therapies.

Chondromalacia patellae (CMP), also known as runner's knee, typically occurs in young patients, which is characterized by anterior knee pain (AKP) that is associated with visible changes in patellar cartilage. The initial pathological changes include cartilage softening, swelling, and edema. CMP is caused by several factors, including trauma, increased cartilage vulnerability, patellofemoral instability, bony anatomic variations, abnormal patellar kinematics, and occupation hazards.

[Research progress on the influencing factors of post-traumatic stress disorder among fire emergency rescuers].

Under the new situation of professionalization reform for fire rescue forces in China, the research on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) of the emergency rescue personnel is expected to usher in a new stage. Based on some theoretical researches and practical results of domestic and foreign literature, this paper summarized the research results of the social and psychological factors of PTSD of emergency rescue personnel, and made suggestions and prospects for the future research and policy-making in related fields in China.

Analysis on risk factors for neck shortening after internal fixation for Pauwels II femoral neck fracture in young patients.

Background: Femoral neck shortening can occur in young patients receiving internal fixation for Pauwels type II femoral neck fracture. The risk factors for neck shortening, which can affect hip function, are not clear. This study aimed to retrospectively identify risk factors for neck shortening after internal fixation with parallel partially threaded cannulated cancellous screws (FPTCS) for Pauwels type II femoral neck fracture in relatively young patients.

[Three dimensional nephrometry system for partial nephrectomy: Our initial exploration].

Objective: To construct a preoperative evaluation system for partial nephrectomy using CT three-dimensional visualization technology and to explore its practical value.

Methods: The clinical data of the patients who underwent partial nephrectomy for renal tumors in Department of Urology, Peking University First Hospital were collected retrospectively. At the same time, the homogenized standard data of patients who underwent partial nephrectomy for renal tumors were collected in 16 clinical centers in China.

Background: Adjacent segmental intervertebral disk degeneration (ASDD) is a major complication secondary to lumbar fusion. Although ASSD pathogenesis remains unclear, the primary cause of intervertebral disk degeneration (IVDD) development is apoptosis of nucleus pulposus (NP). Raloxifene (RAL) could delay ASDD by inhibiting NP apoptosis.

The Protective Effects of Parathyroid Hormone (1-34) on Cartilage and Subchondral Bone Through Down-Regulating JAK2/STAT3 and WNT5A/ROR2 in a Collagenase-Induced Osteoarthritis Mouse Model.

Objective: To assess the effects of PTH (1-34) on bone and cartilage metabolism in a collagenase-induced mouse model of osteoarthritis (OA) and examine whether PTH (1-34) affects the expression of JAK2/STAT3 and WNT5A/ROR2 in this process.

Methods: Eighteen 12-week-old male C57Bl/6 mice were randomly assigned into three groups as follows: sham group (Group A), the collagenase + saline injection group (Group B), and the collagenase + PTH (1-34) treatment group (Group C). Collagenase was injected (intra-articular) into the knee joint of Group B and C.

Up-regulation of matrix metalloproteinases-9 in the kidneys of diabetic rats and the association with neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin.

Background: Matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9) can regulate extracellular matrix deposition in diabetic glomerular injury. However, it remains unknown whether MMP-9 is involved in the renal tubular injury. Meanwhile, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), defined as a biomarker of proximal tubular injury, may influence MMP-9 by forming the MMP-9/NGAL complex.

Gender Differences in Job Satisfaction and Work-Life Balance Among Chinese Physicians in Tertiary Public Hospitals.

Gender has been associated with job-related experience, including job satisfaction and work-life balance. This study aimed to identify gender differences in job satisfaction and work-life balance among Chinese physicians in a large, nationally representative sample. A national cross-sectional survey was conducted between March 18 and 31, 2019, using an anonymous online questionnaire.

The Whitaker Test in the Follow-up of Complex Upper Urinary Tract Reconstruction: Is It Clinical Useful or Not.

Purpose: To evaluate the feasibility and guiding significance in postoperative management of the Whitaker test after complex reconstruction of the upper urinary tract.

Materials And Methods: Patients who underwent complex ureteral reconstruction and received the Whitaker test after surgery between December 2018 and December 2019 were included. We judged it abnormal that the renal pelvis pressure was higher than 22 cmH2O or the pressure difference was greater than 15 cmH2O.

Effects of Combined Lipid-Lowering Therapy on Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Variability and Cardiovascular Adverse Events in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome.

Introduction: To investigate the effect of combined lipid-lowering therapy on low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) variability and cardiovascular adverse events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

Methods: A total of 200 patients with acute coronary syndrome, admitted to the first Hospital of Hebei Medical University from January 2018 to June 2019, were randomly divided into the observation group (100 cases were treated with combined lipid-lowering drugs, including 10 mg/day atorvastatin and 10 mg/day ezetimibe) and the control group (100 cases were given an intensive statin regimen, including 40 mg/day atorvastatin). The levels of blood lipids, creatine kinase (CK), alanine transaminase (ALT), matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) were observed and compared between the two groups.

Indocyanine green fluorescence imaging for laparoscopic complex upper urinary tract reconstructions: a comparative study.

Background: To describe our technique for using an intraureteral injection of indocyanine green (ICG) and visualization under near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) to facilitate challenging upper urinary tract reconstructions (UUTRs) and to present the comparative outcomes.

Methods: We collected 36 patients who underwent laparoscopic UUTRs between April 2019 and March 2020, and we divided the patients into two groups based on the use of ICG (ICG group and non-ICG group). Demographic characteristics, perioperative outcomes, and functional outcomes were compared between the two groups.

Lingual mucosa graft ureteroplasty for ureteral stricture: a narrative review of the current literature.

Long proximal or middle ureteral strictures remain challenging conditions. Although ileal replacement of the ureter or renal autotransplantation are possible solutions for these problems, both present complexities and considerable morbidity. In recent years, many urologists have tended to use oral mucosal grafts to repair complex proximal or middle ureteral strictures and thereby avoid ileal replacement and renal autotransplantation.

Benefit of lag screw placement by a single- or two-screw nailing system in elderly patients with AO/OTA 31-A2 trochanteric fractures.

Objective: To retrospectively analyze the clinical outcomes of two intramedullary fixation devices, the INTERTAN nail and Gamma3 nail, for treatment of AO/OTA 31-A2 trochanteric fractures in elderly patients.

Methods: In total, 165 elderly patients underwent treatment for AO/OTA 31-A2 trochanteric fractures in our hospital from June 2017 to June 2018 (INTERTAN group, n = 79; Gamma3 group, n = 86). All patients underwent radiological and clinical investigations and were followed up for an average of 12 months.
