Liver cancer can be primary (starting in the liver) or secondary (cancer that has spread from elsewhere to the liver, known as liver metastasis). Liver metastasis is more common than primary liver cancer. Despite great advances in molecular biology methods and treatments, liver cancer is still associated with a poor survival rate and a high death rate, and there is no cure.

: Chondromyxoid fibroma-like osteosarcoma (CMF-OS) is an extremely rare subtype of osteosarcoma, its clinical data are scarce, and our understanding of it is far from sufficient. As it has few typical imaging manifestations, it is not uncommonly misdiagnosed clinically. Azygos vein thrombosis is also a rare entity, and there is a big controversy over treatments for it.

Evaluating the Clinical Accuracy of a Non-invasive Single-Fasting-Calibration Glucometer in Patients with Diabetes: A Multicentre Study.

Diabetes Ther

June 2023

Department of Precision Instrument, State Key Laboratory of Precision Measurement Technology and Instruments, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 100084, China.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the stability and accuracy of glucose measurements determined using the metabolic heat conformation (MHC)-based non-invasive glucometer in a multicentre, self-controlled clinical trial. This device is the first to obtain a medical device registration certificate awarded by the National Medical Products Administration of China (NMPA).

Methods: The multicentre clinical study was conducted at three sites and enrolled 200 subjects whose glucose was measured with a non-invasive glucometer (the Contour Plus blood glucose monitoring system) and by venous plasma glucose (VPG) measurements, in a fasted state and at 2 and 4 h after meals.

Article Synopsis
  • - Acquired digestive-respiratory tract fistulas involve an abnormal connection between the respiratory and digestive systems, often due to various diseases, allowing contents from the digestive tract to enter the respiratory tract.
  • - While there are advanced techniques for closing these fistulas, including surgical approaches and multimodal therapies showing promising results, there is a lack of large-scale evidence-based data for guiding treatment.
  • - Updated guidelines provide comprehensive information on the causes, types, diagnosis, and management of these fistulas, highlighting stent implantation as the most effective treatment and detailing methods for stent selection, placement, and postoperative care.

Machine Learning System for Lung Neoplasms Distinguished Based on Scleral Data.

Diagnostics (Basel)

February 2023

Department of Biomedical Engineering, School of Medicine, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084, China.

Lung cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of death from cancer. Recent research shows that the human eye can provide useful information about one's health status, but few studies have revealed that the eye's features are associated with the risk of cancer. The aims of this paper are to explore the association between scleral features and lung neoplasms and develop a non-invasive artificial intelligence (AI) method for detecting lung neoplasms based on scleral images.

The occurrence of bleeding events after stent-assisted embolization of a ruptured artery requiring continuous double antiplatelet therapy may seriously affect the prognosis of this group of patients. A nomogram can provide a personalized, more accurate risk estimate based on predictors. We, therefore, developed a nomogram to predict the probability of bleeding events in patients with stent-assisted ruptured aneurysm embolization.

Accumulating observational studies suggested that hypercholesterolemia is associated with vascular dementia (VaD); however, the causality between them remains unclear. Hence, the aim of this study is to infer causal associations of circulating lipid-related traits [including high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG), apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I), and apolipoprotein B (apoB)] with VaD jointly using univariable MR (uvMR), multivariable MR (mvMR) and bidirectional two-sample MR methods. Then, the summary-data-based MR (SMR) and two-sample MR analysis were conducted to investigate the association of lipid-lowering drugs target genes expression (including HMGCR, PCSK9, NPC1L1, and APOB) and LDL-C level mediated by these target genes with VaD.
