Objective: In cochlear implantation with flexible lateral wall electrodes, a cochlear coverage of 70% to 80% is assumed to yield an optimal speech perception. Therefore, fitting the cochlear implant (CI) to the patient's individual anatomy has gained importance in recent years. For these reasons, the optimal angular insertion depth (AID) has to be calculated before cochlear implantation.

Context: Symptomatic lymphocele (sLC) occurs at a frequency of 2-10% after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) with pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND). Construction of bilateral peritoneal interposition flaps (PIFs) subsequent to completion of RARP + PLND has been introduced to reduce the risk of lymphocele, and was initially evaluated on the basis of retrospective studies.
Objective: To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the impact of PIF on the rate of sLC (primary endpoint) and of overall lymphocele (oLC) and Clavien-Dindo grade ≥3 complications (secondary endpoints) to provide the best available evidence.

Purpose: In cochlear implantation with flexible lateral wall electrode arrays, a cochlear coverage (CC) range between 70% and 80% is considered ideal for optimal speech perception. To achieve this CC, the cochlear implant (CI) electrode array has to be chosen according to the individual cochlear duct length (CDL). Here, we mathematically analyzed the suitability of different flexible lateral wall electrode array lengths covering between 70% and 80% of the CDL.

Hearing rehabilitation of patients with severe hearing loss or deafness using cochlear implants (CI) is a very successful but also complex and lifelong process that requires high quality standards for structure, process, and results. Medical registries represent an ideal tool for conducting quality control relevant to care while at the same time collecting scientific data. Therefore, at the initiative of the Executive Committee of the German Society of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, Head and Neck Surgery (DGHNO-KHC), a Germany-wide CI registry (the German Cochlear Implant Register, DCIR) was to be established.

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a complex and progressive inflammatory liver disease characterized by immune-mediated destruction of the liver parenchyma, hypergammaglobulinemia, the presence of circulating autoantibodies, and good response to immunosuppressive therapy. Since the prevalence of AIH is relatively rare, data on the clinical course and the long-term outcome are scarce. We retrospectively analyzed the data of 535 well-documented AIH patients treated at the University Hospital Essen between 2000 and 2020.

Background: Chronic otitis media (COM) can lead to significant impairment of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) due to symptoms such as otorrhea, pain, hearing loss, tinnitus, or dizziness. A systematic assessment of HRQoL in COM is becoming increasingly important as it complements (semi-)objective outcome parameters in clinical practice and research. HRQoL is measured by means of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs).

Introduction: Experimental data support the involvement of complement in the pathogenesis of antineutrophil antibody associated vasculitis, and clinical studies describe a more severe disease phenotype in patients with antineutrophil antibody associated vasculitis and complement activation. In the present study, we looked for an association between circulating serum complement factor 3 levels at diagnosis and outcomes.
Methods: One hundred sixty-four patients with antineutrophil antibody associated vasculitis who underwent kidney biopsy at our center during the last 15 years were retrospectively reviewed.

Background: Circular urethral compression with an artificial sphincter allows control of voiding, even in patients with severe stress urinary incontinence, but it heightens the risk of urethral atrophy and erosion. This study of one of the largest populations of patients treated with radiotherapy investigates the additive effect of the post-radiogenic stricture of the membranous urethra/bladder neck on AMS 800 artificial urinary sphincter outcomes.
Methods: In a retrospective multicenter cohort study, we analyzed patients fitted with an AMS 800, comparing those who had received radiotherapy with patients presenting a devastated bladder outlet (stricture of the membranous urethra/bladder neck).

Certification as a prostate cancer center requires the offer of several supportive measures to patients undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP). However, it remains unclear how patients estimate the relevance of these measures and whether the availability of these measures differs between certified prostate cancer centers (CERTs) and non-certified centers (NCERTs). In 20 German urologic centers, a survey comprising questions on the relevance of 15 supportive measures was sent to 1000 patients at a median of 15 months after RP.
