Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is the most effective treatment for acute ischemic stroke caused by large vessel occlusion (LVO). Yet, long-term outcome (LTO) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in these patients have rarely been addressed, as opposed to modified Rankin scale (mRS) recordings. We analysed demographic data, treatment and neuroimaging parameters in 694 consecutive stroke patients in a maximum care hospital.

Objectives: About 90% of all non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cases are associated with inhalative tabacco smoking. Half of patients continue smoking during lung cancer therapy. We examined the effects of postoperative smoking cessation on lung function, quality of life (QOL) and long-term survival.

Purpose: Patient-related outcome measures (PROMs) are important instruments to evaluate efficacy of orthopaedic procedures. The Achilles tendon Total Rupture Score (ATRS) is a PROM developed to evaluate outcomes after treatment of Achilles tendon ruptures (ATRs). Purpose of this study is to develop and culturally adapt the German version of the ATRS and to evaluate reliability and validity.

: The acquisition of practical skills at medical school is an important part of the multidimensional education program of future physicians. However, medical schools throughout the world have been slow in incorporating practical skills in their curriculum. Therefore, the aims of the present prospective study were (a) to demonstrate the feasibility of such surgical training, (b) to objectify its benefit in medical education, and (c) to investigate the impact of such training on subsequent career choices.

Background: Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is the preferred method to achieve significant weight loss in patients with Obesity Class V (BMI > 60 kg/m). However, there is no consensus regarding the best procedure(s) for this population. Additionally, these patients will likely have a higher risk of complications and mortality.

Background: In the course of the restructuring of medical studies, practical competencies are clearly defined as learning objectives for the first time. In order to make most effective use of the short attendance time available in otolaryngology, the aim of this study was to teach practical skills with the help of flipped classroom, digital teaching, and a newly established SkillsLab.
Materials And Methods: During their ENT internship, two groups of students-group A = 93 students (male n = 42, female n = 51) and group B = 113 students (male n = 42, female n = 71)-first worked through material provided online, which explained the individual examinations.

Purpose: This study is a comparative analysis of three Large Language Models (LLMs) evaluating their rate of correct answers (RoCA) and the reliability of generated answers on a set of urological knowledge-based questions spanning different levels of complexity.
Methods: ChatGPT-3.5, ChatGPT-4, and Bing AI underwent two testing rounds, with a 48-h gap in between, using the 100 multiple-choice questions from the 2022 European Board of Urology (EBU) In-Service Assessment (ISA).

Background: Despite the prognostic relevance of cachexia in pancreatic cancer, individual body composition has not been routinely integrated into treatment planning. In this multicenter study, we investigated the prognostic value of sarcopenia and myosteatosis automatically extracted from routine computed tomography (CT) scans of patients with advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).
Patients And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical imaging data of 601 patients from three German cancer centers.

Background: Research on penile cancer (PeCa) is predominantly conducted in countries with centralized treatment of PeCa-patients. In Germany and Austria (G + A), no state-regulated centralization is established, and no information is available on how PeCa-research is organized.
Methods: Current research competence in PeCa was assessed by a 36-item questionnaire sent to all chairholders of urological academic centers in G + A.

Aims: The widely used dynamic disposition index, derived from oral glucose tolerance testing, is an integrative measure of the homeostatic performance of the insulin-glucose feedback control. Its collection is, however, time consuming and expensive. We, therefore, pursued the question if such a measure can be calculated at baseline/fasting conditions using plasma concentrations of insulin and glucose.

Introduction: Cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) can be effective in treating adults with ADHD, and patients generally consider these interventions useful. While adherence, as measured by attendance at sessions, is mostly sufficient, adherence to therapy skills has not been assessed. Furthermore, the relationship between patient evaluation of therapy effectiveness, treatment adherence, and clinical outcomes is understudied.

Background: The Children's and Infant's Postoperative Pain Scale (CHIPPS) and the German version of the Parent's Postoperative Pain Measure (PPPM-D) are used to assess postoperative pain intensity in preschool children. However, they have shown low concordance in previous prospective studies on quality improvement.
Aims: Our secondary analysis aimed to estimate the association strength between the pain score items and indication for rescue medication defined as CHIPPS ≥4 and/or PPPD-D ≥ 6.

Unlabelled: Background and question: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia in the total population. The aim of this study is to determine how geriatric patients with AF are treated in terms of rhythm or rate control and whether a relationship between the type of treatment and Mini Mental Status (MMS) can be identified.
Methods: In this monocentric, prospective, observational study, data including chronic medication as well as demographic parameters were collected from all patients in a geriatric department between April 2021 and April 2022.

Background: Interdisciplinary multimodal pain therapy (IMPT) is mostly run in a group setting to encourage the exchange of experiences between patients and thus facilitate the change of pain-related attitudes and behavior. As is known from psychotherapy research, the fellow patients in a therapy group have a relevant influence on the success of the therapy for the individual patient.
Objective: We examined the extent to which therapy success in an IMST group is influenced by individual co-patient characteristics, such as cognitive behavioral pain management, the difference to their own pain management and the proportion of co-patients who repeat therapy.

Recovery processes after stroke include restoration or compensation of function initially lost or newly acquired after injury. Therapeutic interventions can either directly improve these processes and/or inhibit processes that impede regeneration. Numerous experimental studies suggested a great opportunity for such treatments, but the results from recent large clinical trials with neuromodulators such as dopamine and fluoxetine have been rather disappointing.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin disease that can have an association with endocrine disorders. There is conflicting information in the literature regarding the role of the thyroid gland in HS. This study aimed to close this knowledge gap and investigate how thyroid disease is involved in patients with HS.

This technical note describes a novel approach to reconstructing soft tissue in the head and neck region by diverting a flap originally intended for hard tissue reconstruction. We present a case of a 79-year-old woman with a large tumor on the left side of the mobile tongue, where the use of a radial free flap was challenging. Instead, we used the muscular portion of the iliac crest as a reliable alternative for reconstruction, offering a suitable oral lining.

Background: The modified Lapidus arthrodesis is a standard procedure to correct middle to severe hallux valgus (HV) deformities. Recently, minimally invasive techniques of first metatarsocuneiform joint (MCJ) resection using a Shannon burr were described. The primary goal of this study is to compare the anatomical efficacy and safety of first MCJ resection using a straight 2 × 13-mm Shannon burr and minimally invasive technique (MIS) vs an open technique using an oscillating saw.

Background: Evaluation of outcome after stroke is largely based on assessment of gross function 3 months after stroke onset using scales such as mRS. Cognitive or social functions, level of symptom burden or emotional health are not usually assessed, nor are data available on long-term functional outcomes years after stroke.
Methods: Analysis of 1141 patients with AIS treated with IVT from two major German university hospitals between 2017 and 2020.
