Introduction: The aim of this study was to determine the genetic polymorphisms of some antioxidant enzymes together with oxidative stress and the response of some antioxidant enzymes against this situation in vascular and endovascular interventions performed for diseases of the infrarenal abdominal aorta.
Material And Methods: Twenty-four current or ex-smoker patients (eight aortoiliac occlusive disease (AOD), 16 abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)) who were operated were included in this pilot study. Malonyl dialdehyde (MDA) levels, as an indicator of oxidative stress, reduced glutathione, catalase and superoxide dismutase enzymes, which are indicators of antioxidant status, which were measured in aortofemoral bypass in AODs, and in endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysms repairs in the preoperative, operative, and postoperative periods.

Background: Timing and adequacy of peritoneal source control are the most important pillars in the management of patients with acute peritonitis. Therefore, early prognostic evaluation of acute peritonitis is paramount to assess the severity and establish a prompt and appropriate treatment. The objectives of this study were to identify clinical and laboratory predictors for in-hospital mortality in patients with acute peritonitis and to develop a warning score system, based on easily recognizable and assessable variables, globally accepted.

Background: Schizophrenia, particularly the form related to excessive dopamine (DA), is a chronic psychotic disorder affecting millions of people worldwide. Renalase metabolizes its catecholamine (CA) substrates, including DA, suggesting that there might be an association between renalase levels and schizophrenia occurrence. Therefore, the current study aimed to evaluate the renalase and CA levels in the serum of patients with schizophrenia.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine the level of platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in patients with acute pulmonary embolism (APE) according to high and low risk for early mortality based on simplified Pulmonary Embolism Severity Index (sPESI). In addition, it was investigated the relationship between PLR and NLR with systolic pulmonary artery pressure (sPAP), cardiac markers, disease severity and hospital, 1th month, 3th month and 3-month total mortality.
Methods: Our hospital's electronic patient database was searched for the patients with APE during last year and eighty-two patients retrospectively evaluated.

In this study, we aimed to determine the gene polymorphisms of antioxidant enzymes that determine or affect antioxidant activity in the occurrence of the disease and/or complications during and after the surgery in patients who were decided to undergo coronary artery bypass surgery due to coronary artery disease. Blood samples taken before operation in 26 coronary artery patients who were decided to be operated according to the international procedure and the phenol/chloroform method was used to isolate DNA. DNA samples were amplified by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method with specific primers for MnSOD, CAT, GPx-3 antioxidant gene regions.

The median arcuate ligament syndrome is a rare clinical condition with no standardized method of laparoscopic treatment. Exposure of the aorto-celiac axis might be considered as the most challenging part of the surgical procedure. It is important to secure total release while enabling adequate vision as the compressing musculofibrous ligament is located in the deepest part of the aorto-celiac hiatus.

Objective: Esophagojejunal anastomotic leakages, which occur in the reconstruction procedures performed after total or proximal gastrectomy, still account for one of the most significant causes of morbidity and mortality in spite of the developments seen in the perioperative management and surgical techniques in gastric cancer surgery. The aim of the presentstudy was to ascertain the risk factors for Esophagojejunal anastomotic leakages.
Materialand Methods: A total of 80 patients with gastric cancer, who had total gastrectomy + D2 lymph node dissection and Esophagojejunal anastomotic between January 2013 and December 2016, were retrospectively evaluated.

Kounis syndrome is defined as the clinical development of acute coronary syndrome caused by the activation of inflammatory cells due to an allergy, hypersensitivity, anaphylaxis, or anaphylactic reaction. Corticosteroids that are used in the treatment of many inflammatory conditions may paradoxically cause allergic reactions and even anaphylaxis. This article is a description of the case of a 52-yearold female patient who had a non-ST elevation myocardial infarction after the administration of triamcinolone that was relieved with antihistaminic treatment.

Background: Palpable thyroid nodules can be found in 4%-7% of the adult population; however, <5% of thyroid nodules are malignant. Immunohistochemical markers, such as CD56, can be used to make a differential diagnosis between benign and malignant lesions. To increase the accuracy of the diagnosis and distinguish the malignant aspirates from the benign ones, chose to evaluate CD56, which is normally found in benign thyroid tissue.
