Background: Aspiration pneumonia, which often recurs due to dysphagia, worsens as patients move between homes, facilities, and hospitals. The impact of pre-hospital living setting on oral intake at discharge remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of the pre-hospital living setting on the nutritional intake route upon discharge in older patients with aspiration pneumonia.

Echocardiographic Evaluation of the Effect of Long-Term Methylphenidate Use on Cardiovascular Functions.

Objective: ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders, seen in children and adolescents, and is often treated with various pharmacological agents, especially methylphenidate. There are differing opinions in the literature regarding the cardiovascular safety of long-term methylphenidate use. Studies suggest that the drug may increase the risk of hypertension, myocardial infarction, ventricular arrhythmia, sudden cardiac death, cardiomyopathy, heart failure (HF), pulmonary hypertension, and stroke.

Practices and attitudes of adult psychiatrists regarding methamphetamine-associated psychotic disorder: an internet based survey conducted in Turkey.

Background: Many variables may affect approaches of psychiatrists to methamphetamine-associated psychotic disorder (MAP) treatment. This study was aimed to reach adult psychiatrists actively practicing in Turkey through an internet-based survey and to determine their practices and attitudes to MAP treatment.

Methods: In this internet-based study, participants were divided into three groups based on their answers: Those who do not follow-up any MAP patient were group 1 (n = 78), partially involved in the treatment process of at least one patient diagnosed with MAP were group 2 (n = 128), completely involved in the treatment process of at least one patient diagnosed with MAP were group 3 (n = 202).

Conservative management of pediatric pineal cyst apoplexy: a case report and literature review.

A 5-month-old male patient presented with obstructive hydrocephalus caused by pineal cyst apoplexy. Ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery was performed for hydrocephalus treatment. During follow-up, spontaneous shrinkage of the cyst was observed.

A rare EGFR exon 19 insertion mutation in metastatic lung adenocarcinoma: a favorable response to afatinib.

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations like the common L858R and exon 19 deletions are well studied, but rarer mutations like exon 19 insertions have received less attention. This case report describes a patient with this uncommon EGFR exon 19 insertion mutation in metastatic lung adenocarcinoma. A 51-year-old male nonsmoker with metastatic lung adenocarcinoma and a rare EGFR exon 19 insertion mutation experienced disease progression on initial carboplatin-pemetrexed chemotherapy.

Myositis associated with pembrolizumab presenting with myastheniform symptoms: two case reports.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), such as pembrolizumab, have revolutionized cancer treatment by enhancing the immune system's response to malignancies. However, these therapies are associated with immune-related adverse events (irAEs), including neuromuscular complications such as myasthenia gravis, myositis, and myocarditis. We describe two male patients, aged 67 and 68, with small cell and non-small cell lung cancers, who developed progressive neuromuscular symptoms, including ptosis, diplopia, and generalized weakness, after receiving pembrolizumab.

A case of choroidal metastasis from renal cell carcinoma significantly reduced by radiotherapy.

Introduction: Choroidal metastasis from renal cell carcinoma is relatively rare and unresponsive to systemic treatment.

Case Presentation: A man in his eighties with left renal cell carcinoma and pulmonary metastasis developed visual impairment in the left eye during primary treatment with ipilimumab and nivolumab followed by secondary treatment with cabozantinib. Consultation with an ophthalmologist revealed choroidal metastasis, which was subsequently treated with local radiotherapy (3 Gy × 10 Fr), resulting in a significant reduction in the metastatic lesions.

S-Sulfocysteine (SSC) is a metabolite derived from the metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids. It has been implicated in neurotoxicity observed in children with sulfite oxidase deficiency. The aim of our study was to confirm the neurotoxic effects of SSC using a mouse hippocampal cell line (HT-22) and to investigate the role of apoptosis in these effects, especially in terms of caspase-3 activation and genotoxicity.

Relationship between hypertensive disease stages of pregnancy and plateletcrit values: A retrospective cohort study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between plateletcrit (PCT) and stages of hypertensive disease of pregnancy by comparing values in groups with healthy pregnancies, gestational hypertension [GHT], preeclampsia with proteinuria [PE + P] and severe preeclampsia with proteinuria [sPE + P]. The secondary aim was to investigate how proteinuria affects PCT values in these patients.

Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: To investigate the serum surfactant protein D (SP-D) level required to determine the diagnosis and prognosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and create a new scale for disease prognosis prediction.

Methods: This study was conducted among 64 patients with COVID-19 symptoms and 16 healthy volunteers. The participants were assessed by comparing "Controls/Patients", "PCR-negative/PCR-positive", "Simple COVID-19/Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)-accompanied COVID-19", "Mild ARDS/Moderate-severe ARDS", and "Survived/Dead" subgroups.

High-frequency laser therapy: a new alternative to physiotherapy in the treatment of cervical disk hernia.

Introduction: High-frequency laser therapy has been increasingly used in several musculoskeletal disorders, but there is still a lack of evidence for the usage of the device in neck pain. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of physiotherapy, high-frequency laser, and exercise therapy methods in the treatment of pain in cervical disk herniation.

Methods: It was a multicenter, randomized, controlled clinical trial.

Hajdu-Cheney Syndrome, a Rare Cause of Acro-Osteolysis and Osteoporosis With Zoledronic Acid Experience.

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome (HCS), caused by a heterozygous gain of function variant of the NOTCH2 gene, is a rare skeletal dysplasia. Although the main presentation is acro-osteolysis, osteoporosis, and facial dysmorphism, having a wide range of clinical manifestations creates diagnostic difficulties. Here, a 15-year-old male patient with HCS who had no complaints until this age except for two short bone fractures and one vertebral collapse fracture due to a fall was reported.

A mixed method exploration of job morale of physicians working in public healthcare settings in Kazakhstan during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Physicians faced increased workloads during the COVID-19 pandemic, which exposed them to considerable physical and psychological stress. Gaining insight into shapers of job morale of physicians can help healthcare administrators assess the effectiveness of current work conditions and support systems, enabling them to develop policies that improve work environments and prepare healthcare systems for future resurgences of COVID-19 and other future unknown challenges. Therefore, the present study aimed to improve the understanding of physicians' experiences of job morale in Kazakhstan during the COVID-19 pandemic.

What do medical students think about conscientious objection? A cross-sectional study from Turkey.

Background: Physicians' refusal to perform medical procedures that they deem contrary to their conscience may threaten basic human rights and public health. This study aims to investigate the thoughts and attitudes of future physicians on conscientious objection (CO) and thus contribute to the discussions from a country more heavily influenced by Eastern values.

Association between psoas muscle mass index and bone mineral density in patients undergoing hemodialysis.

Patients undergoing dialysis are at risk of osteoporosis and sarcopenia because of mineral and bone disorders or malnutrition. Additionally, maintaining muscle mass is important to prevent osteoporosis. The psoas muscle mass index (PMI) was recently used to evaluate muscle mass.

There is insufficient evidence comparing the outcomes of tacrolimus-based remission induction therapy with infliximab in refractory ulcerative colitis (UC) and evidence regarding optimal strategies after tacrolimus-based remission induction therapy. We conducted a multi-institutional retrospective study of patients with UC treated with tacrolimus or infliximab between January 2010 and March 2019. The proportion of clinical remission at week 8 and cumulative colectomy-free rate were examined using propensity score matching analysis.

In the current era of immune therapy, lenvatinib (LEN) continues to be vital for treating unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC) patients. This study investigates the importance of nutritional status in the prognosis of uHCC patients receiving LEN and evaluates a new prognostic scoring system that combines the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and systemic inflammatory response. From 2018 to 2022, 484 uHCC patients treated with LEN (384 males, median age 73).

Assessing left main bifurcation anatomy and haemodynamics as a potential surrogate for disease risk in suspected coronary artery disease without stenosis.

Coronary anatomy governs local haemodynamics associated with atherosclerotic development, progression and ultimately adverse clinical outcomes. However, lack of large sample size studies and methods to link adverse haemodynamics to anatomical information has hindered meaningful insights to date.
