Nanocomposite hydrogel biomaterials represent an exciting Frontier in biomedicine, offering solutions to longstanding challenges. These hydrogels are derived from various biopolymers, including fibrin, silk fibroin, collagen, keratin, gelatin, chitosan, hyaluronic acid, alginate, carrageenan, and cellulose. While these biopolymers possess inherent biocompatibility and renewability, they often suffer from poor mechanical properties and rapid degradation.

Aerogel is a high-performance thermal resistance material desired for high-temperature applications like dye-sensitized solar cells, batteries, and fuel cells. To increase the energy efficiency of batteries, an aerogel is required to reduce the energy loss arising from the exothermal reaction. This paper synthesized a different composition of inorganic-organic hybrid material by growing the silica aerogel inside a polyacrylamide (PAAm) hydrogel.

Detection of epileptic seizures using an electroencephalogram (EEG) signals is a challenging task that requires a high level of skilled neurophysiologists. Therefore, computer-aided detection provides an asset to the neurophysiologist in interpreting the EEG. This paper introduces a novel approach to recognize and classify the epileptic seizure and seizure-free EEG signals automatically by an intelligent computer-aided method.

Laboratory of Marine Biochemistry, Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Graduate School of Bioresource and Bioenvironmental Sciences, Kyushu University, Fukuoka 812-8581, Japan.

Complements have long been considered to be a pivotal component in innate immunity. Recent researches, however, highlight novel roles of complements in T-cell-mediated adaptive immunity. Membrane-bound complement regulatory protein CD46, a costimulatory protein for T cells, is a key molecule for T-cell immunomodulation.

Spirulina platensis (SP) is one of the most commonly used dietary supplements in human and many animal species, including fish. Recently, it has gained more attention in fish not only for its growth-promoting and immunomodulatory effects but also for its antioxidant potential. The present study was conducted to investigate the protective role of two different dietary levels of SP on freshwater Nile tilapia; Oreochromis niloticus exposed to subacute deltamethrin (DLM) intoxication.

The effect of furfural benzoylhydrazone and its derivatives (I-VII) as corrosion inhibitors for C-steel in 1M phosphoric acid solution has been studied by weight-loss and galvanostatic polarization techniques. A significant decrease in the corrosion rate of C-steel was observed in the presence of the investigated inhibitors. This study revealed that, the inhibition efficiency increases with increasing the inhibitor concentration, and the addition of iodide ions enhances it to a considerable extent.

'She would help me from the heart': an ethnography of Egyptian women in labour.

Soc Sci Med

January 2006

Department of Obstetric and Gynaecology Nursing Department, El-Mansoura University, Egypt.

This article reports an ethnographic study of the intrapartum care of women who were expecting normal births in an Egyptian hospital. The study involved observations of labouring women, and interviews with them shortly after they had given birth. The data were synthesised into three themes: the epistemology of hospital care, characterised by 'technical touch'; women's experience of hospital childbirth, which was contrasted unfavourably with home birth experiences; and women's epistemology of birth, which was characterised by 'helping from the heart'.

Azorhodanine derivatives as inhibitors for acidic corrosion of nickel.

Ann Chim

July 2005

Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, El-Mansoura University, El-Mansoura 35516, Egypt.

Azorhodanine derivatives (HL1-HL5) were tested as corrosion inhibitors for nickel in 2M HNO3 solution using weight loss and galvanostatic polarization techniques. The results showed that these derivatives act as inhibitors for nickel in this medium. The inhibition was assumed to occur via adsorption of the inhibitor molecule on the metal surface.

The effect of benzaldehyde, 2-hydroxybenzoyl hydrazone derivatives on the corrosion of aluminium in hydrochloric acid has been investigated using thermometric and polarization techniques. The inhibitive efficiency ranking of these compounds from both techniques was found to be: 2>3>1>4. The inhibitors acted as mixed-type inhibitors but the cathode is more polarized.

Haematological changes in dogs infected with Ancylostoma duodenale.

J Egypt Soc Parasitol

April 1994

Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine, El-Mansoura University, Egypt.

A definite relation between the intensity of Ancylostoma duodenale and haematological changes in dogs were studied. There was a relation between the increase in egg count with the haemoglobin percentage. The present study reported haematological data collected during the acute phase of experimental infection with A.
