Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) was reported as the most common type of leukemia among adults. Galectins constitute a family of galactose-binding proteins reported to play a critical role in many malignancies including AML. Galectin-3 and -12 are members of the mammalian galectin family.

Objective: We aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of pectoral nerve block (Pecs) I and II with control or other techniques used during breast cancer surgeries such as local anesthesia, paravertebral block, and erector spinae plane block (ESPB).
Methods: We searched 4 search engines (PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and Web of Science) for relevant trials, then extracted the data and combined them under random-effect model using Review Manager Software.
Results: We found 47 studies, 37 of them were included in our meta-analysis.

In Somalia, which is located in the horn of Africa, a fragile and insecure state structure allowed the strengthening of terrorist groups provoking armed conflicts. Stray bullet injuries can be defined as an accidental bullet wound caused by an anonymous attacker and are usually associated with celebratory gunfire or urban violence. The anatomy of the pterygopalatine fossa (PPF) is complex and penetrating foreign body injuries pose even a greater challenge for the surgeon to operate in this area.

Elimination of hepatitis C virus (HCV) may fail, leading to a non-response outcome because of inappropriate testing for viral RNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Sequelae of HCV genotype 4 therapy with sofosbuvir and daclatasvir ± ribavirin were assessed in our study at the 12 week after end of treatment (EOT) by screening for viral genomic RNA in serum and PBMCs with correlation to hepatic parenchymal changes. We recruited 102 out of 2165 patients who had received sofosbuvir/daclatasvir, either alone (n = 1573) or together with ribavirin (n = 592).

Background: The impact of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) reactivation on the expression pattern of matrix metalloproteinases, their inhibitors and related cytokines during HCV infection poorly understood.
Methods: Reactivation of CMV in 95 subjects (75 chronically infected HCV patients and 20 healthy subjects) was examined. All studied subjects had detectable IgG antibodies for CMV, but only 35/75 of HCV patients (46.

Unlabelled: Irradiating a tumor bed with boost dose after whole breast irradiation helps reducing the probability of local recurrence. However, the success of electron beam treatment with a small area aiming to cover a superficial lesion is a dual challenge as it requires an adequate dosimetry beside a double check for dose coverage with an estimation of various combined uncertainty of tumor location and losing lateral electron equilibrium within small field dimensions.
Aim Of Work: this work aims to measure the electron beam fluence within different field dimensions and the deviation from measurement performed in standard square electron applicator beam flatness and symmetry, then to calculate the average range of the correction factor required to overcome the loss of lateral electron equilibrium.

The disappearance of hepatitis C virus (HCV) from serum and tissues for 12 weeks after the end of treatment (EOT) with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) is known as a "sustained virologic response" (SVR) and occurs more frequently in non-cirrhotic patients than in cirrhotic patients. In this study, we evaluated the outcome of HCV treatment with sofosbuvir (SOF) plus ledipasvir (LDV) at both EOT and 12 weeks after EOT in patients with and without hepatic cirrhosis to address the relationship of serologic relapse to persistent infection of PBMCs and the frequency of hepatic encephalopathy and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after treatment. Seventy-five patients with post-HCV liver cirrhosis were assigned to one of three groups (A, B, and C), each of which included 25 patients and corresponded to the patients' Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) classification.

Background: Liver fibrosis results from a wound healing response to chronic injury, which leads to excessive matrix deposition. Genome wide association studies have showen transcriptional dysregulation in mild and severe liver fibrosis. Recent studies suggested that genetic markers may be able to define the exact stage of liver fibrosis.

We studied 84 consecutive patients presenting with acute diarrhoea (less than 1 week in duration) at an outpatient tropical medicine clinic in Cairo, Egypt. The diagnosis of amoebic colitis was established by the presence of Entamoeba histolytica galactose-inhibitable lectin antigen and the presence of occult blood in stool. Controls were 182 healthy regional people and 64 patients complaining of prolonged diarrhoea lasting more than 1 week.

All subjects with E. histolytica or E.

Salivary lectin antigen was found in 65.

We determined whether epitope-specific monoclonal antibodies to the galactose-inhibitable adherence protein (GIAP) of Entamoeba histolytica could be used in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to detect antigen in serum and feces and differentiate between nonpathogenic zymodemes and the potentially invasive pathogenic organisms that require treatment. Overall, 57% of subjects from Cairo, Egypt, with symptomatic intestinal amebiasis and 42% with asymptomatic infection possessed GIAP antigen in their sera, whereas 4% of uninfected controls or subjects with other parasitic infections possessed GIAP antigen in their sera (P < 0.001).

When the mean + 3 SD value above that of the controls from the United States was used as a criterion for a positive ELISA result, 100% of those with invasive amebiasis, 80% of those with asymptomatic infection, and 64% of the Egyptian controls had anti-adherence protein antibodies. However, when the mean + 2 SD value of Egyptian control sera (optical density = 0.
