Background: The mesopancreas or mesopancreatoduodenum is an important anatomical concept during pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) in patients with periampullary carcinoma. This study investigated whether the duodenojejunal uncinate process vein (DJUV), which is defined as the vein draining from the upper jejunum to the superior mesenteric vein adjacent to the uncinate process, is a useful anatomical landmark for the caudal border of mesopancreatoduodenum resection during PD.
Methods: This study enrolled 100 adult patients with hepatobiliary pancreatic disease who underwent preoperative multidetector-computed tomography (CT).
Essential tremor (ET) is one of the most common movement disorders. However, there are currently no accepted biomarkers for ET. This report suggested that concentration of plasma glutamic acid, aspartic acid, and taurine could be biomarkers for ET.

Objective: We report our first experience of using a case-specific three-dimensional (3D) hologram for tumor resection in otolaryngology to show the proof of concept. In addition, a questionnaire was administered to assess the usefulness of the mixed reality technique in otolaryngology.
Methods: A case-specific 3D hologram was developed from enhanced images of dynamic computed tomography, with reference to contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance images, and used for preoperative planning and intraoperative image reference.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of augmented training datasets in a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) used for detecting abnormal chest radiographs.
Materials And Methods: Chest radiographs were corrected to conform to a DCNN dataset, with 288 abnormal and 447 normal radiographs. The radiographic images were divided into training and validation sets (441, 60%), and a test set (294, 40%).

Chèdiak-Higashi syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive disease that causes hypopigmentation, recurrent infections, mild coagulation defects and neurological problems. Beige mice carry a mutation in the lysosome trafficking regulator (LYST) gene and display some of the key characteristics of human Chèdiak-Higashi syndrome, in particular, a high susceptibility to infection due to aberrant natural killer (NK) cell and polymorphonuclear leucocyte function. Morphological analysis of beige mice reveals the presence of enlarged lysosomes in a variety of cell types, including leucocytes, hepatocytes, fibroblasts and renal tubule cells.

To date, there are few studies in Asian populations on the association between snoring (a major clinical symptom of sleep apnea) and hypertension. This study aims to examine whether snoring frequency is associated with blood pressure and hypertension in the general Japanese population, after adjustment for major confounding factors. A cross-sectional study of 2021 middle-aged Japanese men and women enrolled in the Toon Health Study between 2009-2012 was conducted.

Emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the aquaculture environment is a significant problem for disease control of cultured fish as well as in human public health. Conjugative mobile genetic elements (MGEs) are involved in dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) among marine bacteria. In the present study, we first designed a PCR targeting traI gene encoding essential relaxase for conjugation.

Right aortic arch is a rare abnormality. Esophageal cancer associated with a vascular ring is even more rare. We describe a patient with right aortic arch who had previously undergone a graft replacement of descending aorta for aneurysmal rupture followed by subsequent surgery for advanced esophageal cancer.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the reliability of inter-and intra-observer assessments of the mechanical alignment of the lower extremities with digitally computed radiographs of an anterior-posterior view of the whole leg using a new computer-assisted method.
Method: Load bearing axis deviation of the lower extremities was quantitatively measured by three examiners in 105 knees of 73 subjects who had osteoarthritis of the knee with a Kellgren-Lawrence grade of 1 or more. A line representing the load bearing axis was drawn from the center of the femoral head to the center of the ankle and the alignment of the leg was assessed by measuring the width of the proximal tibia and the perpendicular distance from the middle of the proximal tibial condyle to the load bearing axis (Fujifilm OP-A).
