A 62-year-old woman was admitted to hospital because of chest oppression and abdominal discomfort. Coronary arteriography revealed that the proximal left anterior descending artery had a large thrombus with TIMI (Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction) Grade 3 flow. On the second hospital day, she had sudden hematemesis because of esophageal varices.

Background: Although coronary artery lesions are critical complications of Kawasaki disease, their long-term outcome is still unclear. It is sometimes difficult to monitor progressive changes from aneurysms to stenotic lesions because coronary angiography (CAG) cannot be repeated very often, especially in infants. Our prospective study was designed to evaluate the prognostic value of dipyridamole-thallium single-photon-emission CT (SPECT) in the long-term follow-up of patients with Kawasaki disease.

The present study was conducted to assess the preventive effect of combined treatment with probucol, an antioxidant, and cilostazol, a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, against poststenting restenosis. Study patients were randomized to 4 modality groups 1 week before stenting: control, probucol (500 mg/day), cilostazol (200 mg/day), and probucol plus cilostazol. Treatment on these modalities was conducted from 5 prestent days until the poststenting follow-up evaluation (6 poststenting months).

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, safety and diagnostic accuracy of thallium-201 myocardial tomography with intravenous adenosine triphosphate (ATP) infusion in patients with suspected coronary artery disease.
Background: Both ATP and adenosine are potent coronary vasodilators with a very short half-life. Several studies have confirmed that the diagnostic accuracy of adenosine thallium-201 scintigraphy is comparable to that with exercise.

Although thallium-201 (201Tl) reinjection imaging improves the detection of myocardial viability compared to standard 3-4-hr redistribution (RD) imaging, it still underestimates the extent of viable myocardium. We examined whether 201Tl reinjection SPECT with sublingual nitroglycerin (NTG) had a higher sensitivity for viability detection than reinjection alone. Eighty patients with coronary artery disease were studied, 38 of them with an old myocardial infarction.

Before operation, we evaluated the usefulness of ultrasonically guided needle biopsy to detect histologically invasion of the chest wall by tumor in patients with lung cancer. Ultrasonically guided needle biopsy, computed tomography, and ultrasonography were done in 29 patients with lung cancer. In all of them, chest wall invasion was histologically confirmed by thoracotomy.

The scimitar sign is characteristic of partial anomalous pulmonary venous drainage into the inferior vena cava (IVC). We encountered two variant cases of scimitar sign. In one case, the scimitar vein entered both the IVC and the left atrium (LA) without any intracardiac shunts.

We describe a case of carcinosarcoma of the lung in a 60-year-old female who was admitted with complaints of productive cough and an abnormal shadow in the chest X-ray. Sputum cytology showed both squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma cells. Malignant nonepithelial cells were identified in the needle biopsy specimen.

The renal kallikrein-kinin system seems to participate in the regulation of blood pressure, control of sodium and water excretion, renal vascular resistance and renin release. By using ultrastructural immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization or polymerase chain reaction experiments with the appropriate cDNA probes, kallikrein and kininogen were observed to exist and be synthesized in different types of cells of the nephron. Recently, new finding of a kinin receptor has been reported, since specific kinin receptor antagonists have become available.

The authors measured urinary uric acid (UA) and creatinine (CR), serum lactate, and CoQ10 prior to retiring at night and on awakening in the morning in 127 patients (PG) after lung resection and thoracoplasty which were done more than 20 years age for treatment of tuberculosis and in 20 controls (NC). delta UA:CR, delta lactate, and delta CoQ10 were calculated respectively as the overnight changes in urinary UA:CR and in serum lactate and CoQ10. delta UA:CR increased in PG (4.
