The β3-adrenergic receptor (β3-AR) agonism mirabegron is used to treat overactive urinary bladder syndrome; however, its role against acute kidney injury (AKI) is not unveiled, hence, we aim to repurpose mirabegron in the treatment of mercuric chloride (HgCl)-induced AKI. Rats were allocated into normal, normal + mirabegron, HgCl untreated, HgCl + mirabegron, and HgCl + the β3-AR blocker SR59230A + mirabegron. The latter increased the mRNA of β3-AR and miR-127 besides downregulating NF-κB p65 protein expression and the contents of its downstream targets iNOS, IL-4, -13, and -17 but increased that of IL-10 to attest its anti-inflammatory capacity.

Candesartan cilexetil (CAN) is administered for treating hypertension and heart failure. CAN suffers poor oral bioavailability, owing to limited aqueous solubility, and first-pass metabolism. Solusomes (novel Soluplus enriched nano-vesicular carriers) combine the merits of Soluplus, and the traditional liposomes.

The current study investigates the anticancer effects of PEGylated chitosan nanoparticles (CS NPs) coloaded with betaine (BT) and nedaplatin (ND) on breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7) cells and breast cancer-bearing rats. Hereof, the ionotropic gelation approach was implemented for the synthesis of PEG-uncoated and PEG-coated CS NPs encompassing either BT, ND, or both (BT-ND). The sizes of the developed BT/CS NPs, ND/CS NPs, and BT-ND/CS NPs were 176.

Novel reliable biomarkers of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are clinically imperative due to potential limitations of endoscopic techniques. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as non-invasive biomarkers of IBD; however, the full disease-specific miRNAs signature for IBD subtypes remains elusive. We evaluated the diagnostic role of circulating miR-486 and miR-25 in IBD patients and their potential ability to discriminate IBD subtypes; ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD).

This research investigates the biocompatibility, mechanical strength, and tribological properties of a hybrid composite material composed of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), hydroxyapatite (HAp), and titanium dioxide nanoparticles (Ti ). The study explores the microstructural characteristics of the composite material using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Samples of HDPE-30%HAp with varying concentrations of Ti (5, 10, 15, and 20%) were prepared and extruded using a twin-screw machine.

The electropolymerized molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) have enabled the utilization of various functional monomers with superior selective recognition of the target analyte template. Methyldopa is an attractive synthetic dopamine analogue which has phenolic, carboxylic, and aminic functional groups. In this research, methyldopa was exploited to fabricate selective MIPs, for the detection of sofosbuvir (SFB), by a simple electropolymerization step onto a disposable pencil graphite electrode (PGE) substrate.

Congenital cardiac septal defect (CCSD) is the main type of congenital heart disease and owns a very high mortality rate among newborns. CCSD is controlled by specific transcription factors, including T-box transcription factor 20 (TBX20) and Cbp/P300 interacting transactivator with Glu/Asp rich carboxy-terminal domain 2 (CITED2) which are key molecular actors in heart development. Here, we screened for mutations in TBX20 and CITED2 genes in Egyptian children with CCSD and assessed their association with CCSD susceptibility and with cardiac troponin T (cTnT) and the apoptotic marker caspase-3 as biochemical markers for CCSD.

An optimization strategy was adopted for designing and synthesizing new series of 2-oxindole conjugates. Selected compounds were evaluated for their antiproliferative effect in vitro against NCI-60 cell lines panel, inhibitory effect on carbonic anhydrase (CA) isoforms (hCAI, II, IX and XII), and protein kinases. Compounds 5 and 7 showed promising inhibitory effects on hCA XII, whereas compound 4d was the most potent inhibitor with low nanomolar CA inhibition against all tested isoforms.

Aiming to achieve efficient activity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), the expansion of the structure- and ligand-based drug design approaches was adopted, which has been recently reported by our research group. Purine ring is a corner stone in the development of SARS-CoV-2 main protease (M) inhibitors. The privileged purine scaffold was elaborated to achieve additional affinity based on hybridization and fragment-based approaches.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a major health concern with multifactorial pathophysiology representing intense therapeutic challenges. It is well known that deregulation of spatiotemporally-controlled signaling pathways and their metabolic reprogramming effects play a pivotal role in the development and progression of CRC. As such, the mitochondrial role in CRC initiation gained a lot of attention recently, as it is considered the powerhouse that regulates the bioenergetics in CRC.

In this article, a single-layer frequency selective surface (FSS)-loaded compact coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed antenna is proposed for very high-gain and ultra-wideband applications. At the initial stage, a geometrically simple ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna is designed which contains CPW feed lines and a multi-stub-loaded hexagonal patch. The various stubs are inserted to improve the bandwidth of the radiator.

Methotrexate (MTX) is a widely used neurotoxic drug with broad antineoplastic and immunosuppressant spectra. However, the exact molecular mechanisms by which MTX inhibits hippocampal neurogenesis are yet unclear. Dexmedetomidine (Dex), an α2-adrenergic receptor agonist, has recently shown neuroprotective effects; however, its full mechanism is unexplored.

Repaglinide, a meglitinide insulinotropic antidiabetic, was unraveled as a promising therapeutic agent for Huntington's disease by targeting the neuronal calcium sensor downstream regulatory element antagonist modulator (DREAM). However, its mechanistic profile in Parkinson's disease (PD) especially its impact on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, mitophagy, and their interconnections is poorly elucidated. This study is the first to examine the neuroprotective potential of repaglinide in rotenone-induced PD in rats by exploring its effects on DREAM, BiP/ATF6/CHOP ER stress pathway, apoptosis, mitophagy/autophagy, oxidative stress, astrogliosis/microgliosis, and neuroinflammation.

Oral squamous-cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a widespread health problem. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are major tumor microenvironment (TME) population that govern many carcinogenesis aspects by establishing immunosuppressive milieu favoring tumor aggressiveness and treatment resistance. Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) regulates MDSCs activity, hence, COX-2-selective inhibition by celecoxib (CXB) showed good anticancer effect at relatively high doses with possible subsequent cardiovascular complications.

Relatively large band-gap, fast charge carriers recombination, and mono-functionality of photocatalytic materials are still representing stumbling hurdles against their optimal usage for water cleaning. Herein, a novel black titanium oxide/plasmonic titanium nitride@activated coconut biochar (TiO/TiN@ACB) composite was designed to have both photocatalytic and photothermal functions. Intermediate states of black TiO, plasmonic effect of TiN, and high electrons (e) capacity of biochar enhanced band-gap narrowing, light absorbance extension, and charge carriers separation respectively.
