Glass system of 45BO-20ZnO-30BaO-5X, (where X represents CaO, MgO, AlO, TiO, CuO and FeO) in mole percentage was investigated for gamma ray radiation shielding experimentally. Six glass composites were fabricated and the density was measured experimentally and the BZBCa glass sample has the least density with a value of 3.932 g cm and this is due to the presence of CaO in it, and the sample BZBFe has the highest density with a value of 4.

Hesperidin, a natural flavanone glycoside predominantly found in citrus fruits, has gained attention for its wide-ranging biological activities, including potential insecticidal properties. Culex pipiens, commonly known as the northern house mosquito, is a major vector of several human pathogens, such as the West Nile virus and filariasis, making it a key target in the fight against vector-borne diseases. In this study, we evaluated the larvicidal activity of Hesperidin against Culex pipiens larvae, assessing its potential as an alternative to chemical insecticides.

This paper introduces the Efficient Metaheuristic BitTorrent (EM-BT) algorithm, aimed at optimizing the placement and sizing of photovoltaic renewable energy sources (PVRES) and capacitor banks (CBs) in electric distribution networks. The main goal is to minimize energy losses and enhance voltage stability over 24 h, taking into account varying load profiles, solar irradiance, and temperature effects. The algorithm is rigorously tested on standard distribution networks, including the IEEE 33, IEEE 69, and ZB-ALG-Hassi Sida 157-bus systems.

The seismic refraction technique has demonstrated its efficiency as a cost-effective geophysical approach for bedrock investigation, which is very important for major construction projects. In the southern part of New Qena City, in the Eastern Desert of Egypt, construction of many domestic facilities is planned. Therefore, a prior investigation focusing on bedrock is required to validate the site for construction and other projects.

Female obesity is a worldwide health issue linked to chronic metabolic low-grade inflammation (metaflammation) causing multiple obesity-related co-morbid conditions. We aimed to assess the serum levels of wingless integration site family member 5 A (Wnt5a), leptin, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) as markers of obesity-associated metaflammation and investigate the association with toll-like receptors2 (TLR2) gene (Arg753Gln) single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) among Egyptian females. The study included 60 females with obesity and 30 matched controls.

Hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HANPs) have been applied in several biomedical fields. However, its interaction with biological systems is less exploited. This study aimed to characterize HANPs, examine their influence on kidneys, and explore the potential protective effects of naturally extracted red pigment (RP) from Monascus purpureus against HANPs-induced renal toxicity.

Three-dimensional (3D) simulations of the structure of liquid crystal (LC) torons, topologically protected distortions of the LC director field, under material flows are rare but essential in microfluidic applications. Here, we show that torons adopt a steady-state configuration at low flow velocity before disintegrating at higher velocities, in line with experimental results. Furthermore, we show that under partial slip conditions at the boundaries, the flow induces a reversible elongation of the torons, also consistent with the experimental observations.

This study examines the performance of asymmetric three-phase distribution systems under the influence of FACT deives such as a static VAR compensator (SVC) and a unified power controller (UPC). Each suggested device's operating principle is developed in this paper in order to provide the best model to be used in the power flow analysis. The performance of the IEEE-13 bus imbalanced distribution model is investigated using the Newton-Raphson method.

A long-term successful implant-supported prosthesis requires the creation of a passively fitting framework, based on an accurate intraoral digital implant scan. According to dental literature, splinted implant scan bodies (ISBs) provide higher intraoral scanning accuracy than non-splinted techniques. This technique presents a structured approach for splinting multi-unit abutment scan bodies (MUASBs) using customized manufactured devices to facilitate the recording of definitive intraoral implant scans.

Objective: Evaluating the potential role of neuromuscular ultrasonography (NMUS) in assessing optic nerve affection in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), compared with healthy controls and other conventional strategies in diagnosing optic neuropathy.
Methods: We conducted an observational cross-sectional study comparing patients with SLE and a healthy group. We measured the optic nerve diameter (OND) and optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) and calculated the OND/ONSD ratio and side-to-side difference.

Although a giant Egyptian domestic non-migratory duck breed is phenotypically identical to the migratory Mallard, yet it is three times larger. The current study sought to determine the genetic and metabolic differences between this duck and Mallard, which arrives in Egypt in September for wintering and departs in March. Mitochondrial DNA control region (D-loop) was extracted, amplified, sequenced, and analyzed in both ducks.

Chickens are a key species in both the manifestation of avian influenza and the potential for zoonotic transmission. Avian influenza virus (AIV) infection in chickens can range from asymptomatic or mild disease with low pathogenic AIVs (LPAIVs) to systemic fatal disease with high pathogenic AIVs (HPAIVs). During AIV infection in chickens, Toll-like receptor 7 and melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 are upregulated to detect the single-stranded ribonucleic acid genomes of AIV, triggering a signaling cascade that produces interferons (IFNs) and pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is popularly believed to be triggered by the aggregation of amyloid beta 1-42 (Aβ - 42) peptides, eventually leading to neurodegeneration. Our study delves into the influential role played by Green Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (GIONP). GIONP are typically synthesized using a green chemistry approach, imposing curcumin as a biocompatible reducing and capping agent, leveraging its inherent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective attributes.

Epilepsy is a common neurological disease that is treated with medications; however, patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, commonly intractable temporal lobe epilepsy, tend to have better control with surgical treatment. While the mainstay of surgical treatment is anterior temporal lobectomy, it carries risk of potential adverse effects hence minimally invasive techniques are now being used as an alternative to open surgery. This systematic review and meta-analysis compare the efficacy and safety of three of the most used techniques: laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT), radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).
