Novel DNA Repair Inhibitors Targeting XPG to Enhance Cisplatin Therapy in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: Insights from In Silico and Cell-Based Studies.

NSCLC is marked by low survival and resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy. The XPG endonuclease has emerged as a promising biomarker for predicting the prognosis of cisplatin-treated patients and its downregulation having been reported to increase cisplatin efficacy. This study presents an integrated strategy for identifying small molecule inhibitors of XPG to improve cisplatin therapy in NSCLC.

Methods: Thirty-three professional football players from a Portuguese Liga I team participated in this study. Weekly external load and soft-tissue injury rate and burden of 2 consecutive seasons (2021-22 and 2022-23) were analyzed.

The Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) has been used often to assess physical activity (PA) patterns. However, the European Portuguese version of this instrument has not been validated. We aimed to validate the self-administered GPAQ, version 2, (GPAQv2) for Portuguese adults.

Medication use for the management of professional performance: between invisibility and social normalisation.

This article aims to explore pharmaceuticalisation processes in professional work contexts. The approach focuses on identifying patterns of medicine and dietary supplement use for managing work performance, and on discussing the relationship between these consumption practices and work-related pressure factors. This analysis adapts the notions of 'normalisation' to understand the extent of cultural acceptability of these practices, and the notion of 'differentiated normalisation' to capture the tension between the trend towards normalisation of such consumption and its partial social (in)visibility within work settings.

Unveiling Novel ERCC1-XPF Complex Inhibitors: Bridging the Gap from In Silico Exploration to Experimental Design.

Modifications in DNA repair pathways are recognized as prognostic markers and potential therapeutic targets in various cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Overexpression of ERCC1 correlates with poorer prognosis and response to platinum-based chemotherapy. As a result, there is a pressing need to discover new inhibitors of the ERCC1-XPF complex that can potentiate the efficacy of cisplatin in NSCLC.

Meat Consumption and Availability for Its Reduction by Health and Environmental Concerns: A Pilot Study.

Introduction: Among the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development members, Portugal has the highest reported consumption of anxiolytics, hypnotics, and sedatives, of which a large proportion are benzodiazepines or related drugs. These are known to cause tolerance and dependence. New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (NDM) carbapenemase has been considered a global threat due to its worldwide widespread in recent years. In Portugal, a very low number of infections with NDM-producing Enterobacterales has been reported. First Description of Ceftazidime/Avibactam Resistance in a ST13 KPC-70-Producing Strain from Portugal.

The combination of ceftazidime/avibactam (CZA) is a novel β-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor with activity against carbapenemase (KPC)-producing Enterobacterales. Emerging cases caused by CZA-resistant strains that produce variants of KPC genes have already been reported worldwide. Here, we assess the association between homocysteine (Hcy) serum levels and periodontal status in a large representative sample of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Using the 2001-2002 and 2003-2004 NHANES databases, participants with a periodontal examination, medical self-reported data, blood pressure (BP) and blood samples to determine complete blood count, C-reactive protein (CRP) and Hcy levels. We then calculated the periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) and the periodontal epithelial surface area (PESA).

Determinants of HIV-1 Late Presentation in a Cohort of Portuguese HIV-1 Patients.
